This was filmed pre-show at the USF Sun Dome, Tampa, FL, January 20, 1988. I wasn't at this show but saw him in the same arena on the TST tour on February 17, 1994 with Melissa Etheridge opening.
Sting getting with Brandford was everything. Just listen to Blue Turtle and Nothing like The Sun. I love to see this caliber of musicians like Herbie are friends and partners.
Just seeing this video for the first time after someone mentioned VInx to me today (haven't heard his name in 30 years) so I went searching for old Sting. We had an amazing run from 1985 up until 1990 with Sting. Dream and Nothing are perfection. Soul Cages is fine and important too (but I prefer Omar, Manu, Branford, Kenny, and the rest), but those first two solo albums...there is nothing like them. Those three albums form a Trinity of inspiration and creativity.
Wow. I just flashed back 30+ years. Undergrad. Sting still had hair for my sake. Branford and Herbie look so young! Anticipating the 90s... They could do no wrong...The music was Amazing and Meaningful...We could do no wrong...Where'd it all go...Waxing nostalgic, again...
Una chicca che anche uno Sting ofilo come me non aveva mai visto e sentito,Prove tecniche per concerto jazz, tre brani con Herbie e Bradford e non c'è n'è più per nessuno...buon weekend bella Gente☕🎼🎹🎷
This show was sick --saw it at James l knight center in Miami -dedicated fragile to Jaco -nice -no lie sting took off his shirt -about 10 rows of women levitated toward the stage -lol- music and mix were beyond -a beautiful moment in time - thanks sting- killer little wing guitar solo as well
surprised at this clip. Sting's not just singing jazz, he totally understands what the song is like and what the song should be. he perfectly fits into that.
100% He breathes it. Noticed a lot of people in comments that do not understand this. Owns that jazz feel in his vocals. Btw , where was Kenny Kirkland throughout. Always wondered if he was friends with Herbie
Sister moon Sister moon will be my guide In your blue blue shadows I would hide All good people asleep tonight I'm all by myself in your silver light I would gaze at your face the whole night through I'd go out of my mind but for you I'd go out of my mind but for you Lying in a mother's arms The primal root of a woman's charms I'm a stranger to the sun My eyes are too weak How cold is a heart When it's warmth that he seeks? You watch every night, you don't care what I do I'd go out of my mind, but for you I'd go out of my mind, but for you My mistress' eyes are nothing like the sun My hunger for her explains everything I've done To howl at the moon the whole night through And they really don't care if I do I'd go out of my mind for you Sister moon
hahaha, yeah....beautiful...When you hear these old piano samples now ( although they were the best in these time) you would think, impossible to play on...herbie makes them sound just like a real piano...for great musicians it doesnt matter on what instrument they play...they are still great...
Mrs Sting.. you are the folowing of ' Sinatra' and you did it perfectly with sensibity..thath's wamen want and we need this tallk to each other if not......
Don’t be a stereotypical jazz elitist. There’s no contention between any of them cause they like and appreciate each other’s music...it’s why they agreed to be there together on camera. They respect each other. Meanwhile they enjoy their lives any you have to reduce this musical moment to some piddling competition. Free your mind.
@@andybaldman Anyone? I've met people who don't even like music. Any music! I asked one such guy what music sounded like to him. He said: "To me, it's like the sound of sheet metal crashing onto the ground." So, music is not for everyone. Not everyone can even become a musician and have a shoe in each ear.

10 rows?! Damn. Take me back in time. I would have been right in front. Herbie did say that he loved going to Sting shows because of all the women.
Those were three of the coolest cats in the music world at the time. Great point about the genius of the modulation in Sister Moon from Hancock, too.
Grammy award winner icons herbie and sting
Branford
Some old jazz standards will never die. Specially if played by great people like here
"measure my pleasure" is a great band name. Thank you Herbie!!
Wow! Sting ...so mervellous boy ! Sister Moon ! with Herbie HANCOCK ! sublime !
Check out Herbie Hancocks album Possibilities for Sister Moon
surprised at this clip. Sting's not just singing jazz, he totally understands what the song is like and what the song should be. he perfectly fits into that.
Thats what he did before punk and rock. Upright bassist on a jazz group. It makes sense that he understands the language. Plus he has a great ear
as always sting was, being how he is
100%
He breathes it. Noticed a lot of people in comments that do not understand this.
Owns that jazz feel in his vocals.

why wouldn't he ? music is universal and colorless!
believe it or not white people can dance too
I’m definitely not surprised but very much amazed
I'm in AWE of Stings aura....charisma. Cant take my eyes off him. Noticed that on the Synchronicity tour in 1983....not every artist has that! 😊
GREAT choice for a rainy day
Sister moon

Sister moon
Fantastic! Jazz session
This song has been one of my favorites for a long time. Well, since 1987.

Love it👏👏Amazing Singer and Musicians

Tremendous
Branford Marsalis on sax
He deserves much of the success of the Nothing Like the Sun album
8:47 Bradford ..."We all know the cat can write"....Herbie....."Really?" Stings face...8:52
That's 'really', as in: "...is that even questioned?"
Thanks for great upload!! Do you know if there's a recording of the concert?
Which keyboard produced that quality of piano in that era? Merhn need one of those....anyone knows which keyboard that is?
That is a Korg SG-1D, I also want one badly 🥰 That sound is very special!
Tampa!!!
sting herbie and branford !
minute 4:56 Sting The great director conducts brandford musically
The moon's name was Claire. She was a little flower.

I'm 'one of those who needs to see the words too'.
Me too. As one who plays piano and sings, i can memorize chords a lot but just simple words dont stay in.my mind.
I am linear too🙏Where was this time?
Oh, Lady be Good!
Herbie speaks like John Patitucci
Sting getting schooled and he knew it.
yesi
4:04 nikolai kapustin impressions
I'm linear :-)
What are the names of the songs?
Lady be good.
Antonio Gabbatore Oh, Lady be good ! Gershwin
I´d like to know who´s the sax player.
Branford Marsalis
then watch the intro
bozobaaa
Herbie Hancock have a strong sound, it isn't nice.
Love love Sting. Love love jazz. Don't like Sting doing jazz.
Sting without Andy and Stewart is kinda boring. This clip makes me wish Sting would just get out of the way and let Herbie and the boys play.
This is called "messing Sting's work" Two great jazz players and doing that - shame on them!.
both of them have more musicality in their pinky, than sting has in his whole body

Herbie with sting? I find this unwatchable.
Anyone can jazz.

Pretty boring....
Sting was a punk singer what is this crap !? Johnny Rotten is better than this !
Tremendous
why?
