“People Are Fed Up” | Julia Hartley-Brewer vs Mick Lynch On Railway Privatisation

- RMT General Secretary Mick Lynch says "no privatisation has been successful" as Labour plans to renationalise the railways.
A Labour government would expect to transfer the 10 remaining privately run rail networks to public ownership “well within the first term” by folding existing private passenger rail contracts into a new body as they expire, Louise Haigh said at a launch event.
Kicking off her announcement at Trainline headquarters in central London, the shadow transport secretary said the UK deserves “to be proud” of its rail legacy.
She said that under the plan, the taxpayer would save £2.2 billion annually, but said she did not have agreement from shadow chancellor Rachel Reeves that all of those savings could be invested back into the railways.
Mick says: “Train operating companies haven’t invested a penny in railways in 30 years. We’ve subsidised them while they’ve taken £10bn in profit.”

Mick Lynch always talks sense.
As soon as the trains are nationalised, This commie arse will have them all out and we the people will be shafted AGAIN.

Watching Hartley-Brewer taking on Mick Lynch is like watching a Labrador take on a freight train

She is trying to punch above her weight. No match at all for Mick Lynch.
"I don't support any particular party"
Sure, Julia
I think she must have done her thesis on the culture wars, but graded 2-2 at best
She has admitted to voting Labour in the past. She hates this Conservative Government. She is not partisan - unless being anti-woke/far-left is considered such.
She supports money
She's a Tory

A knowledgeable, time served, professional with no bullshit. He has answers for all TV interviewers. I'd take Micks point of view over any politician every time.
I usually avoid watching Julia, but Mick Lynch changed my mind in this instance. As always, he was talking perfect sense. It's also good to see Corbyn being vindicated on her channel. His policies were exactly what this country needed then, and it's what it needs even more now.
Agree 100%..
Corbyn was destroyed by the media with a big helping hand from the Pro Israel lobby and its false claims he was anti Semitic.
Facts
All interviewers are very careful around Mick now as he has destroyed them en masse.
Renationalising rail is common sense
You obviously don't remember what the railways were like when they were nationalised.
The railways are NOT privatised they receive HUGE taxpayers subsidies …. Yet ceo s and shareholders take huge salary’s dividends
That doesn't mean they aren't privatised. It just means the profit is going to private hands.
That's because privatisation doesn't work.
When anybody quotes facts she hasn’t a clue how to respond, this guy is brilliant,
I have noticed that many interviwers are quite intimidated by Mick Lynch and for good reason. He is very knowledgeable about his subject matter, he tells the truth and he does not need votes so does not play the political game. We need more of him.
It must be difficult for people like Hartley-Brewer to have admit that privatisation hasnt worked.
She doesn't admit it. She is saying real privatisation would have worked, without giving any idea how. She talks gibberish.

Continuous muttering across Mick Lynch every time he made a point tantamount to sneering.
Brewer got Lynched.
this shows how poor Hartley brewer is and talk tv need to remove her this is embarrassing to watch as normal Mick takes the media apart
I don't follow a political party... Not now that your beloved Tories are on the way out. Forever a grifter and a charlatan is Hartley-Brewster.
I ain't socialist. But a service that everyone uses shouldn't be be holding to share holders
Thank god! Best decision to be put forward for decades! Can't wait, its like the Wild Wild West out there.

Brewer met her match.
To be fair she would struggle to outsmart a dog, so Mick Lynch was probably feeling relaxed.

She’s met her match thousands of times, she’s just very good at spinning and obfuscating and her followers are too stupid to fact check her.
Renationalising our strategic assets is vital in the dangerous Europe we now find ourselves in.
Electricity, gas, water and the railways have been stripped to the bone ,provide a substandard service, and are vulnerable to attacks from malign forces.
We need massive investment in our national infrastructure.
When mick was explaining all the facts of the failures of the railways she sat there open mouthed,I bet she was thinking who the hell got me to interview someone who really knows what he is talking about,
She got well and truly OWNED. Well done Mick. Keep the good work up!
You actually had Julia Hartley Brewer being somewhat conciliatory but as soon as she doubled back on this, Mick Lynch was straight in there.
She tried, o how she tried , but didn’t quite manage to dump it on him. Have to sharpen her fangs. Poor gal
The Lynch Man !
Hartley Brewer no match for Mick
What a brilliant man well done Mick
Private companies are doing great at making a lot of money
Yes. Our hard earned tax money.
The problem with Mick is that he knows his stuff and isn't scared of offending a group that he disagrees with.
Have to agree jhb didn't want to mix it with Mick. Walk in the park. ( S)he even claimed no party affiliation!!
But she doesn't have a party affiliation.
Different class, mick speaks in common sense and logically makes points clear. Julia just had to sit and nod along. Brilliant
Bus services in the north lakes are run by a few volunteers appearing only twice a week in some cases. It's a scandal that old people have to rely on these services and the generosity of villagers with cars. Soon such areas will be inhabited predominantly by the wealthy And a few hardworking locals. Governments have ignored these areas for decades.
I would have Mick as the Transport Minister in a Labour Government.
He wouldn't work under Starmer and his centrist gang of cronies.
Fartley Sewer knows she's way out of her depth when talking to Mick. She's behaving herself here, but the slime in her very being is bubbling away here...horrible woman.
Never seen her so meek!!
Talk TV off air from next week. On TH-cam and Internet. Ratings will hopefully plummet.
Its ratings were already rock bottom 😂

Too someone who does know what they are talking about.
Lol😂
Julia ……. I’m not a Tory ……. Ye right 😂
But she isn't...
@jackhadroom4540 she's definitely on the right-wing though.
"We got the Worst of Privitisation" What the heck is the 'Best of Privitisation; in terms of public services they aren't a limitless market across the world where multi organisations can come in and spread the options for the consumer thus keeping prices down to try and get custom. This is a service in one country alone, and is based on lines bought and regions, they aren't directly 'competing' against each other because there's all different train times and customers won't choose one company over another just because of the company itself, more just who's offering the cheapest fare at the time they need the service. (Or they don't have any flexibility at all and just have to go with who can get them there at the time they need to be there at their destination)
Hardly the same as going to dinner or the pub or the cinema or the shops at places that are have the same opening hours is it? (Where customers go and use the service when it suits them)
Keep getting this man on gbbies and talksh1t
Mick for PM
Privatisation without rigorous competition is a”nice little earner” for shareholders. Even with competition it can be detrimental. Australia had the Commonwealth Bank which was everywhere and owned by the people. It kept the other private bank bastards honest.
Mick is a very nice Man 👍
Well done Julia for asking good questions and well done Mick for giving factual answers.
Nice to see Aunt Sally a bit quieter today.
Good question Mr lynch, what are you Julia!
Dont take on Mick he will make mincemeat of you Brewer mind you most people would.
Takes a straight talking Irishman. Good man Mick.
JHB wibbling on about something she REALLY knows nothing about while the expert, and Mick Lynch does know what he's talking about is there to listen. How he manages to keep a straight face is quite brilliant.
She implies there is good and bad privatisation...the old Brexit argument applied to trains...
Julia Hartley Brewer probably drove her expensive vehicle in for this interview but sadly not everyone has that privilege as Mick Lynch correctly and very politely tries to point out to her

The rail system in the uk is total crap, filthy overcrowded carriages, trains never on time, arrogant and ignorant staff, crumbling stations, overpriced tickets, the train company owners are only interested in squeezing as much cash as they can out of passengers
They need to national all railways in UK this should include HS1 HS2 Crossrail and welsh valley and train leasing company and all Fright company's.and Heathrow link. if Sir Kier Billionaire dose not nationals the rolling stock leasing company's cost will spiral out of control for train we paid for given to Private company's for 3p.
Are we going back to British Rail? If so I will get my spotter books out.
nobody cares boomer
In Cardiff they closed the Bus Station outside the train station and BBC built their new studios there and guess what, still no Bus Station in Cardiff the capital of Wales
correct, screwed up a good system thanks to WAG LABOUR run
Lynch is great for his members. He hates the EU. So meh
Pay all train drivers £250,000-00 per year and have done with it.
Mick can point to how efficiently the health service is being run as the shining example of state management....he might also add in the post office .
Would that be the NHS that has had the private sector take on more and more responsibilities and taking profit out of it?
You're right, we are fed-up. With you lot.
That’s a first for Julia mick just told her how it is he’s to good for the media yet again 👍
Worst railwail system in Europe due to unions and strikes bloody joke the whole system
Well said Mick👍
Basically British Railways are a commuter service into London for state and private workers and businessman from up to 200-250 miles out as they have been since 1900. So as far as Newcastle- London, Sheffield-London, Manchester-London. Historically when the UK was a naval power London Plymouth was the same Booze and high price food on the businessmans trains was also what rail was about. It is a political fiction that the Scottish rail service was the basis of British rail as the actual inter country English Scottish traffic was insignificant on many measures. Investment into rail and electrifixation pyt a central priority on the electrifixation ECMT and WCMT but it was the wrong priority. Historically the express services to Scotland were always somewhat coordinated pre 1948 because the real rail competion was say London-Plymouth , London-Manchestet ( between LNER -GCR/Woodhead and LMS and London Liverpool and London Burmingham GWR and LMS. The possibility of traditional private rails on competing lines really ended with closure of the GCR and SR route to Plymouth.
In the second half of the 2OC the rail loss was the cost of the Cambrian system in Wales, and Central Wales and secondly the West Highland Glasgow Malaig and Skye lines. If those 4 lines had been closed in 1966-1980 probably the direct British rail loss would have halved. I would be inclined to extend the 2ft 6 steam line to Barmouth and retain only Glasgow Oban.
The GCR line extended thru Bradford and the Waverly line should have been the UKs,Tokaido, TGV HST to Scotland . I suspect the GCR and Waverley were closed deliberately because Wilson and Barbara Castle wanted to prioritise Aerospace and Commercial and Miltary aviation like Blair they felt railways were no longer fashionable and ordinary people had more needs of privacy.
Because of the commuter nature of British rail movements and short distances it seems to be lower cost, lower fares and increased efficiency on what is basically an inventory flow system into London might better be achieved by limiting the speed to 80mph/130kmh.
Doubt the Railways will get any better any time soon. We couldnt even build one new line HS2. Where are all the new Trains/Lines/Stations/Power installations etc going to come from.....Private Companies!
why is Mick not PM
Because he's not part of the larceny Club
It's a waste of time talking to him 😮....hates the government and tories ...the railways are going bust...no matter who runs them...
To be fair the service and rolling stock on my train line has never been better. However, it is significantly more expensive these days, must be a 20% increase in the last few years.
Mick talked about the bus services all area's didn't have to go private it was the Councils decision to do this and it was due to the costs of running the bus services
I remember the days when there were buses ran every 15 mins and you had a chance of 3 or 4 buses
So Mick can you explain why Councils had gone private
Because I think Thatchers government deregulated all the bus services in the country, apart from LONDON which is why they have such a good integrated transport system . Unlike every other part of the country.
They are careful of Mick because he knows his subject and when he speaks the majority listen with vigour!!!
There is no way the fares will be reduced and investments will dry up - the tracks and signal are already owned by the government and main issues of delays and strikes are caused by this side of the equation-
Under government ownership will will just get more incompetence
Why? Are we so incompetent in this country? Because it’s ok for French,German state train companies to own parts of our infrastructure! Just not the British people!
Julie ask the question and shut your mouth and listen to the answer
Julia Hartley-Brewer is a muppet
I would LOVE for the railways to be back in state ownership but we need a proper structure and clear funding model. Same for busses. Transport (and utilities) are the basics for us, the people, to make a living. If it runs properly (on time, no excuses etc) then it will be used more but it needs to be reliable!! RELIABLE!!! the key word. I live in Newcastle and the local MEtro is SHOCKING!! You just cannot rely on it. So you moan, complain etc but nothing changes. We need to put the basic back within the taxpapers control i.e. government and we will all be happier for it. Living in the UK right now is extremely depressing. Why? Why! We deserve better.
How can you have competition on rail. You going to get Clarksons sports train on the network
The power the unions will have scares me
Cheaper fairs, better service, you must be shitting yourself

The title of this video is misleading.
He should be PM
Hartley Brewer talks arrant nonsense, only to be expected of Talk TV's political agenda. How can a railway company have competition? How can it not be a monopoly? Are you going to have several railway lines running alongside each other? Can several water companies put their own pipes into each area? Privatisation was carried out for ideological political reasons with little or no consideration for practicality. Mick Lynch is full of common sense.
😮😮😮😮
so a government suddenly has a "windfall" of say £1 Billion.
What should they spend it on ?
New Hospital ?
New School ?
More Trains .
OR A BLAST FURNACE ?
THAT'S why business should be run BY business.
Faaaarrr too many points of fact involved here for a simple TU Rep to understand. Thats why he gravitated towards the Union side, rather than getting better at his proper job.
Yes, a person working in the field for decades knows nothing 😂
You are a serious person, yes you are lol
The railway as run by private enterprise is an unmitigated disaster so your claim that business men should run business is about as valid as Sunak being for the people.
It’s a service not a business and should be run as such. Surely you don’t need to be told how well run services would benefit business and the economy? If you had a proper job you would understand.

Regarding the Labour government back in the 70s, the damage this corrupt Tory government has done to this country is staggering.

I am old enough to remember British Rail and it was a terrible experience. Dirty trains that were frequently late and cancelled far too often. Rude and surly staff.
