  • We’re spending one more week with family on the homestead in Missouri. Will it be long enough to finish our cat-proof denim patchwork quilt? (simple four-patch denim quilt) #fourpatch #quilting
We’re headed to Arizona for a work-camping adventure with our Bigfoot travel trailer (and our two cats). But first, we’ll visit family and friends along the route. #rvlife

This video got finished while the quilt was still drying on the line, but don't worry... I'm sure it will be a regular character in future videos!

Yay for quilting! Looks great. You must have cleared out the pile of denim, so that is good news! The dehydrator looks tempting too.

Actually, she still has MORE piles of denim, if you can believe it! And those dehydrated apples are delicious.

Another lovely video 😊. I SO need a Nancy in my life!! The things I could learn!! 😄!! I was so absorbed in my horses in my earlier life that I never learned things like sewing and knitting and such. I'm trying to learn now, in retirement, but it's not as easy as if I'd started young.
Did that rat really carry off the sweet potatoes? Glad you caught it, and maybe it's relatives too.
I lived about 25 years or so in Missouri. Some really beautiful country there. Thanks so much for sharing this visit. I've really enjoyed it. Take care. 🍂🌾♥️🌾🍂

Maybe everyone needs a Nancy in their life. 😊 It is impressive that the rat would be able to carry off the sweet potatoes, but the circumstantial evidence doesn't point to anyone else! (We didn't stage it at any rate... although you can't put it past the dogs if they got in there).

The quilt looks great! What kind of thread should be used to tie the quilt? I have a pile of old jeans I was planning to use for this very thing. I’ve never made a quilt so I plan on using your video as a guide.

How awesome! (I now wish we had counted up how many pairs of jeans we used.) We used quilting needles (extra thick, with a great big eye) and a very thick cotton thread. We looked at some embroidery flosses and yarns, trying to find a color that would work with the blue and green. Nancy's final test was to see how much force it took to break the thread by hand. It should be something pretty strong. At the very end, unfortunately, we ran out of thread and had to make do with many layers of a regular cotton thread of similar color for the last few ties.

@@OvertheRiverandThroughtheWoods you said in the video you needed 42 blocks of 4 squares each. I had enough denim to get 27, but I have a really heavy cotton fabric that used to be part of a wool mattress topper. I’m thinking about using that for the rest of the squares. Thanks so much for sharing this, and for getting back to me about the thread! I’ve been watching you guys for a few months now and really enjoy your videos. It’s inspiring to see people living life outside of the “norm”. I hope to be able to do this one day myself.

@@meghanmccullough4855 that’s cool! Are you planning to make strips in between too, or just more squares overall?
