How A Corvette Project Car Can Turn Into A Corvette Parts Car

- Today I'm taking a look at the three Corvette project cars - 1972 454 Big Block/1986 Indy 500 Pace Car/2004 convertible/six speed and discussing what factors go into making the decision on whether to fix them or dismantle them for parts. With some cars, it's a fairly straight forward decision process, but with others it can sometimes be a tough call to make.

Thanks for watching👍
Do you. Sel. Have. The c4. Or. Is it. Sold
Which C4?
Love your videos keep up the content please I have an all black 87 coupe
Glad to hear it Andrew, thanks for the feedback. I've been enjoying making the videos. It's a great way to share the passion for cars with like minded people. Black is a good color on the C4's. Looks awesome when it's clean and under the lights after dark. 👍
VetteSource i live in Central Valley (fresno) so it’s mostly dusty lol but yea the paint is still good on it! I just jumped in the vette world I’m 27 and not much a wrench turner so all your vids and a couple other vette guys vids really help. I’m waiting on headers and a small cam (under 500 lift) so I’m excited to hear how it’s gonna sound
That's great! Your first Corvette is always a memorable experience. The C4's especially are like high powered go karts, and making performance mods really wakes them up. They aren't the fastest on the road anymore, but are crazy fun to drive. Let me know how the performance parts work out. 👍
VetteSource I will you have an Instagram?
Yep, you can find me @ instagram.com/vettesource
How do you tell how much a car is worth
That's a good question that could I could probably make several videos about. However, the easiest answer is to do a little research with the NADA guides and old car publications like Hemmings and Old Car Trader. These older cars have become commodities, especially Corvettes, so much of their value lies in how original and/or condition with unrestored examples being worth more in some cases.
VetteSource I was just wondering because my grandpa passed on his 66 corvette to me. It has 13k miles and a 427. It’s pretty nice but the paint has a good bit of chips and you can see where body work was done to the passenger side quarter before.
@@morganhay859 sorry for your loss, it's never easy to go through. Sounds like he left you a very nice car, and one that has a significant amount of value due to being a mid year and a big block. If you want to send over a few pictures of the car to vettesource@hotmail.com I can give you a general idea of it's value. Just let me know👍
VetteSource yea it was definitely hard we never drive the car but it’s nice to have
Yep, that's the thing about old cars that have been part of the family for many years. Many people wouldn't trade the great memories for any amount of money.
That vette looks like it blew a tire.... had same happen to mine 7 years ago. Still my baby. Replacement panel .drive it to work
That is possible, those tire blowouts definitely cause some serious damage in the C3's. Thanks for the comments, Steven👍
Hey did you see my message asking about the station wagon? I hope it's one of those LT1 Buick wagons! Hehe.
Yep, I responded but the YT comments section can be a bit twitchy. Unfortunately it isn't the bigger LT1 powered wagons. It's the smaller Oldsmobile Cierra Cruiser with the FWD V6. I bought it lightly damaged at the salvage auction a few years back as a parts runner. It's been a great little car and my kids love it, just need to take care of some engine maintenance on it.
@@VetteSource Hey that's still a cool wagon! I like older Buick, oldsmobiles and mercury's. I kind of think of them as no-nonsense luxury. Heated leather seats and some nice interior trim is really enough to please me.
My rich buddy just bought a Lexus Lc500 for 130k. It will be 1 of 98 in Ontario (across all model years).
Beautiful car from the outside, but boyhowdy it just has so many tech gimmicks and crap you don't need.
I prefer to just stay humble....
Yep, I think the new tech is cool, but my eyes tend to glaze over after awhile. I have enough computer nonsense I have to deal with in my daily routine I don't want to deal with it in my cars.
I’d b worried about the birdcage looking at both the vids. Best wishes
Yea, the tarp they kept over the top of the car didn't do it any favors, but the damage is mainly limited to the windshield and firewall cowl. I am going to deconstruct it and weld in the pieces I have from the good cowls.i have from other parts cars I have dismantled over the years.
@@VetteSource wow, you certainly have skills as most ppl I know would look at the condition of the part of the cage u can see & worry about those dreaded spots just past the bottom corners of windscreen, that’s the bit that can turn “if u still wish to carry on” into a full bodylift off the car, which is if u do do this I imho I would recommend or it being sadly a parts car. Hope u have a great Xmas mate from across the pond in England 🏴 (where again sadly we don’t get many C3s)
Mark, Merry Christmas to you as well. You are correct, this one will need to have the body pulled off the frame since it is a little too crusty to save. This car is unique in that it has a cool backstop along with being a fully loaded red/red 454 Big Block which many times helps me make the final determination as to whether or not I will restore or part out. Plus I think if I can video document the restoration properly it will be fun viewing for all.
I dont know if youre going to get your money back from a restoration of that 72???? its in pretty bad shape! I bought a 72 here in Canada for $28K and although it looked great and ran good I ended up putting another $60k to get it back to almost perfect shape!! and a 72 in original perfect shape sells for $40 K here!!!
Hey Joe, for sure chasing the $$$ on a Corvette restoration will leave you miserable at the end of the day. For the most part, I view my restorations as a hobby to pass the time, so I dont usually worry about final value since I like the cars so much.
It also helps that I turned my hobby into a Corvette parts business, so I have plenty of necessary parts to complete the restoration I wouldn't otherwise have😁.
@@VetteSource thanks for your great videos!! theres alot of others but some of them are not true vette lovers like you and I!! I was 21 when I bought my first car a 1970 donney LT-1 with 40K miles used in 76 for only $3.5k it was a canadian import with an original M-22 and 4.56!!! Imagine my surprise when drag racing it!!!! I bought it by mistake and unfortunetly it was ripped- off while I slept!!! in 81!!!
Joe, glad to do it. TH-cam has been a great way to share my Corvette passion with other enthusiasts and hear about some of the interesting stories and memories.
WHO THE HELL REPAINTS A PACE CAR EDITION. And then put in a FIREBIRD MOTOR.
Yep, it's puzzling for sure, man. You wouldn't believe some of the Corvettes I've dealt with over the years that people customized in and "odd" manor😂
@@VetteSource I guess it's not completely sacrilege. Lol. I try to follow the "respect all builds" slogan, but I don't like cross-manufacturer engine swaps.
LS in a foxbody, LS in a Porsche 944. Not a fan.
Something like the Buick 3800 in a Fiero is cool though. At least it's the same company.
@@Jason-fp7vi yea, even though I can appreciate the custom engineering that goes into the cross breeding I'm not a big fan of it either. I do find it amusing though when somebody stuffs a big block chevy in a fox body Mustang. 😂
@@VetteSource Hehe I'd rather see a big block Ford in a Camaro than a 454 in a fox body! FIRST ON RACE DAY! hehehe he. Just kidding with you
@@Jason-fp7vi now that's the fun loving trash talk gearhead like😂
