Hey tip for ya, what you found was a geode, which spawn underground. To my knowledge they don't host any mobs. Also the blocks that look more hole like in the geode are spawners for amethyst which is used in making a telescope. Hope this helps and happy crafting =3 Another tip: Don't forget the saplings which if planted can make more trees like your chosen wood type when bone meal is used on or left alone to grow.
