I've always heard that Maxwell lit 🔥 Alvin Robinson up and out played John Starks in that same 1988 summer camp that solidified his draft spot with the Spurs.
"Mad Max" Vernon Maxwell he was the only Player I saw run right up to Michael Jordan and let him know ain't no punking Mad Max, he was a 6'4 ball of athleticism, jumped high, ran fast and could shoot the basketball, we need that "Boston Strangler" Andrew Toney, Mo Cheeks and Ricky Pierce all forgotten 80s and 90s Players!
Mj was a bum. Dude had one special skill, jumping high for a long time. If I could jump and hang In the air for 12 seconds I'd be smoking everyone too. Takes no skill to do. If bird , magic, or kareem had that jumping ability, no one would have ever heard of jordan

Motherfucker who you gloving with that misshaped ass head? Your momma Jordan half.0. My half is still better than your 100 sucka. Your PF is limp like Schrempf. Disrespect my rook again and find out. Pow wow blow Yao.
@Classicbasketballdvds Starks had NBA jam Bounce &more hops where he elevated high up on his jumper which made him more efficient in the mid range and a more solid above the rim finisher in traffic. While Max was strictly faster off the dribble getting into the open court relying on momentum to get his finishes at the rim
Great breakdown video of MadMax. He was wiry athletic lighting fast in transition with beyond 3point range. He was a more toned down John Starks playstyle wise but when Max was mad or focused he looked like a allstar
Max was really GOOD, on both sides of the ball, but very streaky on offense. However, as you said when Max was on, he was on, absolutely a great role player I didn't like my Chicago Bulls to deal with regularly lol!
24:30 I know Marv Albert had to be objective, working nationally for NBC. But, we all know he's a Knicks guy. I'm amazed at how unbiased he could project himself to be, there.
As a Houstonian and watching Olajuwon his whole career, one of my favorite teammates was Vernon Maxwell. He was often the fire in the Rockets. He was good enough to be an all-star but he sort of lacked consistent excellence.
I can't believe you didn't bring up the time he had to get bailed out of jail during a playoff game for pulling a gun on somebody for taking "his" parking spot at Luby's Cafeteria.
I'm soooo glad I grew up in The 80s & was able to witness 80s & 90s basketball. They were skilled but played like grown men. Even pick up basketball was the sh@# back then.
Said by. SUNS reporter after the 1993-94 Playoffs: Of greater concern, was Dan Majerle's inability to guard smaller, quicker players. He was no match for Houston's Vernon Maxwell in the playoffs."
Love your videos bro, I watch all of them. Have you put any thought into doing a video about Brandon Jennings, Charlie Ward, or Cliff Robinson? (I know some other channels have done videos on the latter two, but you're still the best.)
All of them, for sure, both Cliff Robinsons, actually. Just got a long list of suggestions/guys who I personally wanna do videos on. So I don't exactly when I'll get to those suggestions. But they're all on the list
I was born in Seattle in 1973, where I grew up. Sonics and Blazers fan. Japanese-American, male, and heterosexual (showing what prism I view the world through). I WAS rooting for the Rockets in 1993-94, after the Sonics got knocked out of the playoffs. I loved Olajuwon, Otis Thorpe, and Sam Cosell, and glad they all got rings.
In 1996-97, three teams suffered the Northwest Ignominy: The Spurs, Nuggets and Grizzlies, all went a combined 0-24 against MY two favorite teams, the Sonics and Blazers. Come on, 24 games, and they couldn't get ONE win? Those teams got wins over the Lakers, Celtics, Suns and Jazz! (The 4 teams I hate, for good reason: They KILLED the Blazers)
His stats are horrible and advance stats including defense was terrible. Reminds me of the Antoine walkers, Ron artest types that can make a clutch shot or take over but can be so bad in a playoff series
As a Sonics fan in 1992-93, I WISH the Clippers would have eliminated the Rockets, and especially wish the Lakers would have eliminated the Suns. The Sonics could have made the Finals, had that happened.
Hey man, I love the forgotten player profiles. Keep up the good work!
Appreciate it!
No, you keep up the good work.
I love your channel cause I learn so much about players I've only heard about.
Trying my best to tell all these guys stories In a respectful way! I'm glad you're able to learn something from them
Damn great video and channel! I love revisiting my basketball history
He put on a ridiculous shooting display for me at San Antonio spurs camp in 1988.

Perfect Player to demonstrate that analytics dont really matter if you can hoop!

I was waiting on him to make a Vernon Maxwell video 🔥🔥
Me too 🤣🤣🤣👍💯.
@khalidcarter25 I've been waiting a couple yrs for this video.
one of my fav players back then. He was athletic too. He was like John Starks wit the toughness and unpredictability
@Classicbasketballdvds great point I've been saying that for 30yrs. They were both feiry and emotional competitors

Another AWESOME VIDEO!!! I recently moved to Huntersville, NC and see Vernon shopping at our local Food Lion. He is a great dude, humble and genuine.
That's great to hear, and I appreciate the support!

Maxwell going to fight a fan in the stands nearly a decade before Artest although no riot occurred
Great video! Thanks man!
Thank you 😊
Vernon and Hakeem on NBA Jam was my preferred team! He was always hitting three's!

Gratitude
Meet him in Charlotte about 10 years ago. Down to earth and very approachable
Besides Dennis Rodman… Vernon Maxwell is that one player I really enjoyed watching. He was that dude you don’t want to mess with.
Vern, I still got your knee pads you left at my crib that night. Good times...
Outside of Dumars, there might not have been a player who gave Mike more fits than Mad Max.
Gerald Wilkins.

From my hometown Gainesville. My high school girlfriend from his hood Sugar Hill. His first nickname was Vernon "Hawk" Maxwell.
My man your thinking on the same wavelengths as me! So im guessing a video about Horace grant is next? Also Rudy gay just retired
Idk if you have a video of him but I would love a Iso Joe Johnson video❤
The poor mans sprewell
But Mad Max had his own style of play through.
@andresdelportillo9917 Max's game resembled John Starks alot more.

I choose mad max over spree all day. Vernon maxwell easily beats jordan, i don't think spree can do that.
I saw Vernon Maxwell as a Rockets fan, enjoyed his game and contributions thoroughly. But he is nowhere near Sprewell in skill and talent.

But he wasn't a problem when the Rockets won there first championship.
