Hi, I’m from Quebec (Canada) and I’m going to Italy for 2 weeks in May! This really helps, and I will make sure to watch more of your videos prior to travelling to Italy.. Thank you ☺️
Grazie tanto, Manu. This was a great list. In some of the cities, I notice that they sometimes call apericena "Happy Hour" like in the US. i would also recommend as part of the list taking a digestivo after pranzone or cenone. I recently had a liquore al basilico after the meal, and it was delightful!
Great video...Helpful...I'm Italian...born in Italy...but i was raised for 12 yrs(childhood & teenage) in India as my mom is Indian and my father is Italian🇮🇹...So Idk a lot of cultures of italy..Now i'm back in Italy...I have to be more fluent in italian..This Videos of Manu are really a lot helpful...Grazie♥️
Amazing, very nice, this video is very helpful ,especially while traveling in Italy. I apriciate that you have very nicely explained about the Italian culture, daily life, food etc. GRAZIE Ancora Manu ,🙏👍😊
Great video. My husband told me in May we were going to Italy in September (just in a few days), so I started learning Italian. I always think it is polite and respectful to learn some basic words of the country you are visiting. I can't expect everyone to speak English or Spanish (my maternal language) everywhere I go. I've learned so much Italian. I can understand when someone speaks Italian, I just want to be able to speak back with the same fluency I have in English and Spanish 😊
Before I knew that cornetto meant croissant, I thought it was referring to the ice-cream, and I was wondering how on earth you would dunk an ice-cream in a cappuccino 😅
Signore Manu, this is how I knew I loved Italian culture when you mentioned dress nicely! People look at me like I’m over dressed in North Carolina, I think I would fit right in whenever I go to Italy. And when I can finally afford Versace... Gioco Finito!
I always use couchsurfing when I travel and my Italians hosts were absolute angels! So friendly and happy to help me with my bad Italian (while slowly getting better) and we did all of these things!!! :)
Grazie mille Manu! Your tips are great! Last autumn in Puglia I spoke Italian everywhere I could and it was amazing. I am not fluent yet, but everyone understood me, some of them switched back to English, I suppose to help me out or in order to improve their English, but I continued in Italian and it was fantastic! If I got it correctly, in Venice apericena is known as cicchetti! Delicious!
Great! 😊Probably some Italians switched to English because they wanted to help you!... But if it happens you can simply say "thanks for your kindness, but I'd like to improve my Italian and I'd love to speak in Italian with you!". In Venice and in the all North-East by saying "cicchetto" they mean a small glass of liqueur, in short, "a shot" so "going to have a shot/andare a farsi un cicchetto" means going for a alcoholic drink... so it is also used to invite someone (in a very informal way and then among friends) to drink an aperitif : "andiamo a farci un cicchetto, ti va?"/"let's go for a shot, will you?"
Basically i try to do most of you listed, but have to agree with, tryin to speak italian, even if you cannot speak good, can lead you to some very good experiences, for example we had our best dinners by asking locals, 'where do you like to eat?'...
This is so true I live in Milan,..i try to practice my italian and they always be like its ok I speak English 😂😂😂😂😂how did you know I speak English!?!!!!🤨

Adorabile, Per favore, continua a fare questi fantastici postcasts. Ci vediamo a Roma, spero un giorno ... B.
Love your videos! I recently came back from a trip from Italy. I was surprised how much Italian I did know after ten years. I did have my coffee a lot of times standing up. A friend of mine from Caserta took me to one of his favorite bars. I was able to make a little conversation, but he did most the translation. :-)
Even when you get an espresso it's a pleasure to sit down on the terrace while smoking and looking at people 😅 and not all Italians people are stylish! Same in France, there are obviously many fashionable people but not all of them! I came across your videos because I'm going to Italy in 2 weeks, I can't speak Italian except for a few words, what are the sentences I should learn? I also really don't understand the "primi" e "secondi" piatti, are we supposed to order both? One is already enough for me, I couldn't eat more
My type of video I'm looking for when planning to go to Italy. Edit: some I do know but I didn't know cappuccino and croissant go together. Especially the croissant dunk in cappuccino. I do that most hot dairy drinks with bread. But I do agree with the fashion thing my friend told me this I'm like OK I am not exactly a fashionable person. But I am learning Italian little by little.
Thank you so very much from my wife and I. We will be visiting Italy soon for our first time and you have given us the confidence to go and enjoy the people, the language, and the splendor of Italy. Grazie.
Dio mio Manu! Io sempre provo di fare la maggioranza dei cose che hai menzionato! L'apericena e parlare in italiano sono i miei preferiti! 😊 Già era la mia settima volta in Italia quest' estate.
Pizza al taglio actually saves life. It did safe me when I was skiing in difficult conditions, got lost in dense mist, had do go down the sllopes to a different destination than I wanted to and had to wait for my family to arrive there and pick me up. I was tired, cold, hungry like a wolf, had some change left in my pocket from entire day on the slopes and little idea how to get something to eat with it (as it tourned out I ended up in a fancy, very expensive ski resort but so late that even if I had more money there would be no way to spend it, most restaurants have already closed). And it was there, a nice cosy place with pizza al taglio for locals. And it did save my life back then. I love pizza al taglio and places like this since then. ;-) Ingenious invention.

#3, not much any more, sadly. Hardly can you see well dressed people in Italy these days. Rarely, you may see some old people in Rome who still have clothes from the bygone era as well as good taste, or very few in Bergamo. Considering that you cannot even find clothes in Italy that are actually made in Italy, unless at a cost of over 500€, it is understandable why most and particularly young people in Italy are dressed in entirely soulless Chinese clothing... And if you look at current collections by major Italian fashion houses, they look like cheap stuff made in China. The craftsmanship, originality, creativity and imagination are totally gone... Soon, Italy may become like Bangladesh...
Good question. Why don't you go there and find out? Or, you can also pose this question to the dozens (if not hundreds) of thousands of Bangladeshi migrants currently living in Italy, who fled their home country and unabashedly take advantage of all that European social services have to offer.
I agree. Even making the attempt to speak is greatly appreciated here!
