  • Monday afternoon drive around New Delhi, in Delhi India, the largest metropolitan area in India and the second-largest in the world (after Tokyo) with over 28 million people. New Delhi is the Washington DC of India and the capital of India and is the seat of all three branches of the government of India, hosting the Rashtrapati Bhavan, Parliament House, and the Supreme Court of India. What's the difference between Delhi and New Delhi? The names are used interchangeably to refer to the National Capital Territory of Delhi, these are distinct entities, with both the municipality and the New Delhi district forming a relatively small part of the megacity of Delhi.
    Starting Point: goo.gl/maps/R81JHfy5a621DMLL7 .
    New Delhi is the capital of India and a part of the National Capital Territory of Delhi (NCT). New Delhi is the seat of all three branches of the government of India, hosting the Rashtrapati Bhavan, Parliament House, and the Supreme Court of India. New Delhi is a municipality within the NCT, administrated by the NDMC, which covers mostly Lutyens' Delhi and a few adjacent areas. The municipal area is part of a larger administrative district, the New Delhi district.
    Although colloquially Delhi and New Delhi are used interchangeably to refer to the National Capital Territory of Delhi, these are distinct entities, with both the municipality and the New Delhi district forming a relatively small part of the megacity of Delhi. The National Capital Region is a much larger entity comprising the entire NCT along with adjoining districts in neighbouring states, including Ghaziabad, Noida, Gurgaon and Faridabad.
    The foundation stone of New Delhi was laid by George V during the Delhi Durbar of 1911. It was designed by British architects Edwin Lutyens and Herbert Baker. The new capital was inaugurated on 13 February 1931, by Viceroy and Governor-General Irwin.
    en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_Delhi
    Delhi, India’s capital territory, is a massive metropolitan area in the country’s north. In Old Delhi, a neighborhood dating to the 1600s, stands the imposing Mughal-era Red Fort, a symbol of India, and the sprawling Jama Masjid mosque, whose courtyard accommodates 25,000 people. Nearby is Chandni Chowk, a vibrant bazaar filled with food carts, sweets shops and spice stalls. ― Google
    Delhi, officially the National Capital Territory (NCT) of Delhi, is a city and a union territory of India containing New Delhi, the capital of India. Straddling the Yamuna river, but primarily its western or right bank, Delhi shares borders with the state of Uttar Pradesh in the east and with the state of Haryana in the remaining directions. The NCT covers an area of 1,484 square kilometres (573 sq mi). According to the 2011 census, Delhi's city proper population was over 11 million, while the NCT's population was about 16.8 million. Delhi's urban agglomeration, which includes the satellite cities of Ghaziabad, Faridabad, Gurgaon and Noida in an area known as the National Capital Region (NCR), has an estimated population of over 28 million, making it the largest metropolitan area in India and the second-largest in the world (after Tokyo).
    Delhi is the second-wealthiest city in India (after Mumbai) and is home to 18 billionaires and 23,000 millionaires. Delhi ranks fifth among the Indian states and union territories in human development index. Delhi has the second-highest GDP per capita in India (after Goa). Although a union territory, the political administration of the NCT of Delhi today more closely resembles that of a state of India, with its own legislature, high court and an executive council of ministers headed by a Chief Minister. New Delhi is jointly administered by the federal government of India and the local government of Delhi, and serves as the capital of the nation as well as the NCT of Delhi. Delhi is also the centre of the National Capital Region, which is a 'interstate regional planning' area created in 1985. Delhi hosted the inaugural 1951 Asian Games, 1982 Asian Games, 1983 NAM Summit, 2010 Men's Hockey World Cup, 2010 Commonwealth Games, 2012 BRICS Summit and was one of the major host cities of the 2011 Cricket World Cup.

However, to cater to demand of new infrastructure supporting modern needs, areas adjoining Delhi are supplementing it. Like Noida, Greater Noida, Gurgaon. All of our cities have old parts and new developed parts like these. Media houses like NYT and Al Jazeera picked 2-3 slums and a few garbage dump stock videos and run them on loop. Good thing is that most of us feel unaffected by global perception as we have the element of surprise. Everyone will remain biased while we develop.

      Obviously, New Delhi is the city in India with the best infrastructure. In the contrast, in Mumbai, lots of construction are going on, so it is a bit dirty.

    • @MrAgolikeri
      @MrAgolikeri 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Mumbai looks dirty as it is still in the process of building the biggest underground metro in the country and the biggest in South Asia . So you can expect it to look like a construction site now , but once complete, it will have a classy look on par with the world's best cities.
      However it is the capital of a state which is ruled by one of the most notoriously corrupt and inefficient political parties in the country and (perhaps the world too ) its founder though was a great man who fought for the rights of the locals of the city and state Maharashtra
