Excellent video, really helpful tips and nice to see how this all comes together, and entertaining to boot. I really like your #crossoverlanding term...overlanding in a crossover...AND sort of a recreational crossover going beyond basic car camping without going full-on hardcore overlanding expedition...seems like the *perfect* term to define what we do, exploring/camping in wilderness, within reach of our humble daily drivers. "Crossoverlanding"...brilliant. I recently got one of those little butane single-burner stoves - I like it soooo much better than my old single-burner propane stove that screwed on top of a propane cannister - a tipsy, precarious situation. Love your idea of having food wrapped in one of those aluminum pans and just toss that right on the burner...I'm definitely trying that next time out. I guess if you have to get a little lost, that's some pretty nice scenery to get lost in. It looks so exotic to my PNW eyes.
That's pretty cool man! Thanks for sharing. I'm actually trading in my 2014 Toyota Tacoma TRD Offroad tomorrow for a 2017 Subaru Outback Limited. I've travelled a lot in my truck and have slept out of the back of it quite a few times. But I think the Subaru is going to provide me with a better commuter vehicle and still get me everywhere I want to go. Thanks for the Subaru overlanding ideas.
Nice. I travel in an Outback named Rooster. I’ll have to shoot a video. Our set ups are fairly close but my sleep system is a little less complicated and time consuming but your awning smokes the hell out of mine.
Very informative, thanks for adding in the length of the sleeping system. This was a huge concern for me in getting a forester as I am 6'3 and wanted to stretch out as much as possible. Be safe!
Kevin it sounds like you should place your head in between the front seats 😃. I’m 6’1” and my feet just have enough space to droop down and fully stretch out. Take care sir!
I almost bought a 2015 Forester XT, ended up with a 2015 Mazda CX-5 AWD GT. Both were at the top of my list. I still have the CX-5 and just added a 2020 Subaru WRX to the garage. Now for some Subie zoom zoom action with the turbo! I hope Subaru brings back the Forester XT later on.
I'm so glad I found your channel. I have a 2011 Forester and had to sleep in it out of necessity a couple of weeks ago when a terrible storm hit when we were camping. I loved sleeping in it as have dreamt about van life often. I always thought I needed a different vehicle but now I'm excited to build out what I have. I'm really enjoying the offroading content too as I used to do it in my 20s in a lifted Suzuki Samurai. Now I just may hit some trails in my Forester!
Andrea DiMaio thanks for the kind words! You made my day! I hope this Subaru lifestyle opens up a whole new world for you 👍. I want to share this other guys video with you, since he has the same model Forester as you:
JonDZ Adventuring thank you for that link! I already have some plans in the not too distant future. Btw, that Subaru meet up looked like a blast. I hope that will happen again!
Andrea, the Subaru meets happen all the time. The MtnRoo group has multiple chapters all across the USA and some international. They have a facebook page you can join, the San Bernadino chapter will be hosting a camping event the weekend of November 2, 2018. If you aren't in California, there's chapters all over for you to connect with like minded individuals.
JonDZ Adventuring thank you. I'll look into it. I'm in New York State. I'd love to make it to the west coast to do some camping and hiking. You all have amazing views out there.
Thanks Mark the Forester is definitely roomier! 6 foot 5 inches is a decent sleeping area. I did my first live video last week right as I woke up, It shows my sleeping setup for two (girlfriend and I). Not the best footage, but a good example.
2:24 to the casual eye, that looks like the crazy steep narrow back road coming up from maybe Pine Flat Reservoir and popping out near Dinkey Creek Wilderness. Went up that in a 2wd 90's Ford Ranger. Super glad there was no traffic coming back at me.
Love the fabulous idea of the tin with your own meat in it! Think when I do my car life thing, I'll be doing that! Thx....And nice video! Wish I had a Forester!
Thank you for all your help just what I needed to see and also the awning info. I was too busy watching your work to see the little extension at the top of the video. At least until the second time around. 2015 Subaru outback grandma car camper.
Love that you Prepared your drivers seat to bug out great Idea. 💕💕💕 i’m in my 60s and I have gotten in the front seat up but, I’m kind of chubby from pandemic and it was really hard to get in the front seat after sleeping on the same side as you do , my car Subaru outback 2015. I copied your awning except for I used aluminum one instead of the yellow light changing pole from home depo.
I had to on one occasion. I was in Mammoth during a blizzard. I was about to go to bed, then I heard a bear sniffing outside my vehicle. I reached over and laid into the car horn and then jumped in the driver seat and started driving forward and backward. Here’s the video: th-cam.com/video/fYe4YtYoYWE/w-d-xo.html
Thanks for the video.. I love my Subaru Forester. Was thinking of a small camper trailer but found out towing was only 1500 pounds. Do not want put stress on transmission. Saw a few builds on taking out backseats building sleep platform. To much involved. Glad I found your video.. great information on interior sleeping. I am 6 feet 4inches tall. I guess I will just fit. Can’t wait to try these ideas out. Have been looking at Apricool systems, instead of ice coolers. Thanks for all the great information on Subaru camping.
Kelly name I love exploring the roads less traveled, you never know what you’ll find. I have a video about this. Here you go: th-cam.com/video/ZqhkN5C2PbU/w-d-xo.html
Wow brother thank you SO much for posting. I own a 15 SJ N/A and I am about to go cross country. building out the sub with overloading mods. SO thankful to find you tonight! you are an inspiration! I liked and subbed!
Alexander Lotz that’s Awesome!!!!! I’m sure you’ll have an epic time on your cross country trip. What’s your Instagram? Keep us posted on your journey 🤟
Yesssss my insta is alexlotzoflove what is yours? I would love to follow! I actually used your plans from this video and built the bed!!!!! it works perfect! Thank you SO MUCH
Alex, that's great to hear! I'm glad it's working out for you. I got the idea to make the sleeping system from the reading the SubaruForester forums. I got the idea from a bunch of people and just built what I could. I'm not a skilled wood worker, and when I set out to make my own system, I felt, wood working wasn't needed. The cargo cover is a super tough yet light sheet of aluminum, and I think people make a mistake by replacing it with a piece of wood. I got you followed on IG now, so please show us your journey, I'm excited for you! If or when you make it to California, hit me up, I'll buy you a beer, ha! Good luck on your cross country trip!
I like your windshield sunshade, looks like it puts you on a tropical island. Really dig your setup! Thanks for sharing. I can’t wait to get a subie and customize it for camping. Currently I’m in a 2016 Kia Soul that is not made for off-road let alone large enough for a 6’1” person to sleep inside. Looks like I’m going to invest in a Subaru. Thanks for posting your video. I’ve already bought most of my accessories from other vehicles I’ve had in the past. I’ve been waiting to buy my next AWD or 4WD vehicle. Looks like Subaru is the next one for me. Happy Trails, New subscriber
Thanks Dennis Barnes! I’ll have to be completely transparent about my experience with the CVT in my 2015 Forester XT.... it died. However Subaru replaced the CVT at no charge, so good on them for backing up their product! I only had 60k miles on it and I decided to trade it in for a non CVT vehicle. Please don’t let that little story scare you, I’d just be very wary of going with a turbo+CVT vehicle. I also need to point out that amount my fairly large circle of friends with Turbo CVT Foresters, none of us has made it past 120k miles. The base model Subaru’s fair 2 to 3 times better, so if you go Subaru, just get a base engine. I’m 6’1” as well, but 260 lbs 😖, I now drive a Honda Passport and it’s been great, I highly recommend it. It has a twin clutch rear differential (think high biased limited slip differential) and an aggressive 20:1 crawl ratio. It’s pretty darn quick too. The Kia Telluride is also a good choice. Less capability but more luxury and is more nimble onroad. My advice is to just stay away from a CVT if you could. Good luck with the choosing your next vehicle, but let me leave you with these two Instagram video clips. Watch the both. instagram.com/p/BwPLMv-Hi3F/?igshid=1s64th168zmsh
Dennis Barnes I’m not hating on Subaru’s. I loved my 2015 Forester XT every moment until that one fateful day my CVT went bad ..... 😖. Just know there are no Subaru CVT rebuilds, it’s a $7-9K replacement.
JonDZ Adventuring thank you for your honesty. I’ll keep looking for a everyday driver and use it to do weekends running through the forest and some beach running. , Not sure which Subaru I really wanted. My current camping sleep system has been a 2x4 board about 5’ long I carry in my car. If I can’t find 2 trees 15’ apart I tie my hammock to my roof rack and the other side gets attached to the 2x4 I bury at an angle facing away from me which I usually have 2 ropes anchored buried and pulling away from me. I am a hammock camper in all weather but mostly in the winter less bugs and bears. I have hung my hammock inside my Kia Soul and in my older Honda CRV diagonally. Fit pretty well, takes up less space inside the vehicle. So I don’t need to build a bed inside. I sleep like a baby in the hammock, best restful sleep if you lay diagonally. You should check out a guy named Shug, he is a hammock camper from Minnesota and he makes great TH-cam videos teaching how to sleep in a hammock. Plus he does a great impression of Karl from sling blade the movie. Anyways thanks for the heads up. I’ll keep researching what I can with other 4 wheel drives. I did look at Jeep trailhawk but the one I test drove needed a transmission. I’ll keep my eye out for all your newer videos as well as watch the others. Take care!
Thanks for making this video. I also have the turbo forester and have yet to take mine on a road trip. I really wanna car camp in the mountains with it. These are all good pointers! Thanks again. By the way, what type of inflatable sleeping pad is that?
Definitely a well thought out system! I really like your ingenuity in creating such a livable space. A lot of great editing in this vid too, must’ve taken a lot of time 👌 (it takes me forever to make a vid, but it’s a hobby anyways, right? 😁). And yes, google has screwed me over multiple times on forest roads too. Almost ran out of gas on one instance because of it (I’m traumatized into carrying a gas can and sometimes a physical map of the area if I’m not too familiar), I feel you there brother. Great vid, looking forward to the next one!
Edward Shin you have no idea how much weight your comment has, thank you 🙏 . It took me about 2 hours to edit the video. Most of the time was spent uploading all the video files from my iPhone to my computer. For some reason, I can’t select all the videos and just copy and paste, I have to move the files 1 by 1. I use “Filmora” which was a $34.99 computer program. It’s similar to iMovie, which is very easy to use. Your edits are really freakin epic, for example in your last video, you really focused on editing on the scene where your pup was in the Lexus, I thought that was a Lexus ad 👌.
Great video! I'm really enjoying your channel. Thanks for the inspiration. I live on the central coast near the oceano dunes. I just got a 17 Forester xt. Haven't done anything to it yet but I'm thinking about getting the yokos for it. I heard they offer them in the stock size now. I'm wondering how the tire performs on road as I already know how awesome they are off road. I'm looking forward to making some upgrades for some adventures. 🤔🏕
Steve Priest thanks! The Yoko G015’s are a great all around tire. People even say they perform better on road compared to stock tires, I can vouch for that, that. There’s a few things to know though. Many people like myself run them at a higher PSI (I run mine at 39 front and back). If you are adamant about running them at a lower oem PSI, you will get floaty handling (worse handling). MPG’s will suffer greatly at OEM recommended PSI. Cruising at 70mph on 32 psi will get me about 22MPG, if I run my Yoko’s at 39 I then get 25-26. Also keep in mind that I run cross bars, so I’m losing some MPG from that too. Good luck on your build Steve! Enjoy your FXT 👌
JonDZ Adventuring hey Jon Aussie subscriber here. I have too have XT premium in white, now done 37000 miles. Impressed with what you do with yours. How is it holding up, any mechanical issues or developed any bad rattles?
Hello Rob Paton 👋. Believe it or not I have 42k miles on my Forester XT and I have not needed an alignment. I have taken trail damage, so here’s a little history: 1.) one of my first offroad outings (see my Gorman video) I drove my Forester XT really hard into a mud puddle. I basically lined up with the puddle and floored it. It was very stupid of me, and up until that point I’ve been very careful with my Subaru. My engine developed Rod Knock 3 days after the incident. There may have been other factors, but I believe the mud puddle was the reason I needed a new short block. Luckily, Subaru honored a warranty replacement. Coincidentally, the Subaru dealership put 0w-20 oil into my engine, and not the recommended 5w-30 for their turbo engines. I’m sure that had the most to do the warranty coverage. So I believe some of my other issues are related to this incident. 2.). Skid plates. I have damaged my aftermarket skid plates on two occasions. The first time I indented the skid plates about an inch causing it to make contact with my exhaust heat shield. This led to a terribly loud rattling noise. The manufacturer of the skid plate advised I could hammer the dent flat again to fix the problem. It worked. 3.) I recently took my FXT in to be checked out. They found that one of my spark plugs was causing knock events (pre detonation) leading to the ECU retarding the engine to prevent engine damage. This led to inconsistent acceleration. 4.). The main thing you have to look out for in our 2014-2018 Forester XT’s (in Australia, I believe you got this model back in 2013). Are our CVT’s. Some of them come with transmission seals that “seep”. If left unchecked for a long period of time, it can lead to problems. My dealer found some slow seeping, so they changed out the seal. With all that said. I think this little Subaru has been doing a great job. It’s been handling the rough driving. What if can’t handle is my stupidity + mud puddle. The transmission issue, is not an urgent. It should just be fixed at some point.
JonDZ Adventuring Thanks Jon, Bad luck with the first engine but bloody lucky Subaru fixed it under warranty. I've heard of the cvt issue but thought it only affected the 2014 model as after that Subaru fixed it during manufacturing. Keep the videos coming it motivates me to be a bit more adventurous with mine. Great to see how capable these things are.
Rob Paton check out this video about our turbo models. th-cam.com/video/ecBqbeqQVVw/w-d-xo.html According to Subaruforester.org The 2014 model lacks a filter that causes a CVT part to fail.
Thanks for making this video! What is the approximate width for the single person set up for sleeping you show? Do you find yourself banging your knees on the wheel wells when you move in your sleep? I'm also curious why a self inflating mattress (like a Thermarest mondoking) would suck? Thanks for the feedback as I'm a novice trying to learn.
johnjustis I’m actually just waking up in my car right now. Camped out at HungryValley SVRA. I slept like a baby 👶🏻. I got my tape measure handy too! 28 inches is the width of the solo sleeping area. The wheel well accounts for 2 inches, it’s curved and I didn’t really even notice any discomfort from it. The reason I don’t like the self inflating foam sleeping pads is because they offer very little support, it’s a painful nights sleep. Also, they take 5 times the space as an air pad, but the discomfort was reason enough not to use them. If you got the money, a thermarest Neo AirPad will be a great option. If you only want to spend $40-50 a klymit static V, outdoormanslabs ultra light, ecotek hybern8 should be decent choices, just to name a few. These pads take about 10 breaths for me to fully inflate one.
Where do you park your ride when visiting Mammoth? I was just up there last weekend, and have been contemplating sleeping in the Outback rather than paying for a room on future trips.
Leonard, I prefer to camp by little hot creek. A tip I got from the locals was that the closer you park to the hot springs, the less of a chance you will have a bear encounter.
Great video. I like the ingenuity of it. I know you recently got the Honda Passport. May I ask why you went with that one instead of the Toyota 4Runner? I am just interested in hearing your thoughts on it.
Easy explanation about not going with the 4 runner. 15 mpg highway on a good day. The passport is rated at 24 mpg highway but really gets better. I’m getting 23 with A/T’s and a cargo carrier at 70mph. Not only a whole lot more fuel efficient, but it’s fast AF. Car and driver says the passport does 0-60 in 5.8 seconds. Not bad for a 3.5L, must be VTEC. Passport has more interior and cargo space and is out the box ready to sleep in. 4 runner you have to make serious modifications to sleep in it. The 4 runner is ancient, if anyone’s interested in one, wait until the 2021 model which will be available next year.
I wouldnt mind the ancient. Just means its tried and true and if it aint broke dont fix it. I have an 08 highlander and yes everything in it is ancient and thats just the way I like it! Haha I'm out on small dirt roads, hauling my dirtbikes mountain bikes amd kayaks with it all the time and cant wait to rack up half a million miles on it
My rear windows are tinted extra dark. I use a sunshade on the front windshield and then use place shirt or sweater to cover my driver and passenger side windows. I simply drape a shirt over the windows and then close the door. I have complete privacy this way.
I hear the remote parts of sequoia are on fire, but yes, it’s burning. A lot of California is burning 😭. I’m actually in Yellowstone national park right now and the California fires has affected the visibility out here.

@@JonDZ_Adventuring ok cool just checked it out. do you have a clip when you first acquired the Honda, the specs, etc?? I'm interested in checking it out and to know more about why you chose that vehicle. Btw...I'm not a hard core off road person, at least at this point, rather I'm interested in acquiring a vehicle that will economically perform in average off road scenarios and camping in BLM land. thanks.
I did! It’s a Walmart beater that I bought for $150, so I’m not as concerned about it. I do have a $3500 carbon fiber road bike, and I’m super careful with that one.
I'm trying to keep as much stuff off the roof (for aerodynamic reasons). Also, those awnings get quite expensive, so I found this to be a cheaper solution. I wish you the best of luck building your panelvan :P
@@JonDZ_Adventuring .....thanks. I understand the notion of keeping the roof clear. I have a "roof box" that causes considerable drag. Have you considered the "bolt rope" option to "fix" one side of your awning onto the side of your car ?
@@JonDZ_Adventuring it's found in sailing boats mainly, and a flap gets sewn onto the edge of the tent. (which anchors the tent to the side of the vehicle)
Hey man, I like the video. I've bought my components and assembled it until I had to fit the tire in the well. It doesn't seem to fit as well as yours! Are you storing it fulling inflated? Thanks!
rudimentreject thanks for brining this up!!! Sorry I missed this detail. YES, my spare tire is fully deflated and pushed into the wheel cavity. Because I’m running a slightly taller tire 225/65R17, the tire will lay down at an angle. To make sure the tire is deflated as much as Possible, I attached one of those threaded auto tire deflators.

Hello Nilesh, sorry! I'm just seeing this comment now. I believe I answered you on your other posts, but I'll give you another take on x-mode and turning off traction control. I typically drive in normal mode "traction control on / X-mode off" until I run into a situation where I would need to turn one on or off. Traction Control "reduces power" when wheel slip is detected, X-mode tries it's best to lock the center differential 50% front and 50% rear (compared to the usual 60% front and 40% rear). it's a small difference, but might be just enough to get over an obstacle. My favorite thing about Xmode when climbing a steep grade is that it slows your backwards roll. WIthout X-mode and you'll roll back rather fast.
my wife and I had were low on gas we turned on the gps to find the closest gas station, driving along this gravel road gps said to turn left my wife and I looked at each other and said nope that's not it cause it looked like a farm entrance so carried on it told us to do a U turn so we turned around and the gps told us to turn right my wife and I looked at each other again I guess we'll take it, drove down this track, wasn't really a road drove over some railway tracks the gravel stopped and turned to grass we were in a field gps still showed a road, so we drove through this field came up upon a row of trees and on the other side opf the trees was a steep bank in there was a river and on the other side of the river was the town, there was no way to cross this river there was no way down to the river full stop, so we turned the around and drove all the way back. Anyway this isn't what I wanted to ask, I've been reading bad reviews about the Subaru's bad CVT transmission how long have you owed your Subaru Forester and how many miles have you put on it or how many miles it had when you brought it and miles you put on the clock. I don't know if these reviews are bad due to people expecting to much or simply over kitting these Subaru's to the max and making it to heavy for the drivetrain. Reason asking I just brought a brand new 2019 Subaru Forester has x mode and x sight, I'm starting to wonder if it was a mistake after reading all the reviews.
I was on typing away for about an hour, so I'm going to have to spare the details (which were really good). I purchased my 2015 FXT used with 10K miles back in March of 2017. The 2014-2015 Forester XT's are known to have problematic CVT's. The 2014 model didn't even have a filter before the valve body and small metal shavings from the CVT belt would eventually clog up a solenoid leading to CVT failure. for both 2014-2015 the torque converter had to be revised. The Subaru CVT's of today are much more improved and you can feel the difference. Try driving an older forester, you will see. Your 2019 should jump off the line a bit smoother, but the acceleration will quickly drop off after 20 mph, like with most Naturally aspirated 4 cylinders. Worse case scenario, your CVT goes out. You get a free 10 year/100K miles warranty replacement. As far as me? The Forester XT has a different transmission (TR690), yours has a TR580. It's like comparing apples to oranges. I could tell you about my experiences with it, but I don't think it would be applicable to you. With more power comes more responsibility and your vehicles power and torque will keep you out of trouble. (in my original message I went into so soooo much detail) Henry, my advise is enjoy your vehicle. It's not fast, but it will take you places that your 8.7 inches of ground clearance will allow. Subaru is also consumer reports #1 brand, so it sounds like your purchase your Subaru at the right time. Congratulations! www.consumerreports.org/cars-driving/which-car-brands-make-the-best-vehicles/
One other comment. If using you Subaru off-road, follow the harsh conditions maintenance schedule. ln particular there is advice to increase frequency of CVT fluid changes. Still concerned? You could add a tranny cooler a la Hayden 696 (I think that’s the number). It has a built in temperature sensitive bypass valve, so fluid warms up if you are in cold snowy conditions. But it’s real job is to keep fluid temps down. For normal use though, the vehicle will work fine as it comes from the factory for light, occasional off-roading.
haha nel c! I did not :( to be honest, I didn't brush my teeth after the meal either, I brushed before I went to bed X.x Please don't think any less of me, hahahahaah :P

Here’s the video:

Thanks for the video.. I love my Subaru Forester. Was thinking of a small camper trailer but found out towing was only 1500 pounds. Do not want put stress on transmission. Saw a few builds on taking out backseats building sleep platform. To much involved. Glad I found your video.. great information on interior sleeping. I am 6 feet 4inches tall. I guess I will just fit. Can’t wait to try these ideas out. Have been looking at Apricool systems, instead of ice coolers. Thanks for all the great information on Subaru camping.
I love when you get lost, great views. lol. I want to know how you made that awning attached to your Subie.
Kelly name I love exploring the roads less traveled, you never know what you’ll find. I have a video about this. Here you go:

Good luck on your cross country trip!
awesome Jon thank you so much. I hope to come down from WA to Cali and would love to go out and explore with you and the sub gang!!!

Whoops! Premature comment there, I made edits
JonDZ Adventuring looks like you made a great investment. The quality shows 👍. Keep it up bro, overlanding vids are one of my favorites as well 👌
Just got my 8th subaru, 2010, going to follow your lead. Cheers and thanks for sharing Arrrrrdddd🏴☠️⛏️⛏️⛏️👍💙
watching your videos and meeting huy randomly up in lone pine makes me want to trade in my trek for a forester
About how far from the edges you drill the two holes in the wood. Thanks I am working on doing that,.
I have taken trail damage, so here’s a little history:
1.) one of my first offroad outings (see my Gorman video) I drove my Forester XT really hard into a mud puddle.
JonDZ Adventuring Thanks Jon,
Bad luck with the first engine but bloody lucky Subaru fixed it under warranty. I've heard of the cvt issue but thought it only affected the 2014 model as after that Subaru fixed it during manufacturing. Keep the videos coming it motivates me to be a bit more adventurous with mine. Great to see how capable these things are.
Rob Paton check out this video about our turbo models.
th-cam.com/video/ecBqbeqQVVw/w-d-xo.html
According to Subaruforester.org The 2014 model lacks a filter that causes a CVT part to fail.
I know exactly where you were. Luckily I took the upper road, still long.
What holds the table in the bottom? It doesn't show in the video? Thanks, I have the same car...
It lays on the rear head rest. It’s suspended by rope that hangs around the front head rests.
I wish the music was a little softer. Very informative thank you
Music is kind of obnoxious. I turned the sound off.
@@JonDZ_Adventuring Thanks!
Hi. What hitch carrier did you use when you had the forrester?
Haha I'm out on small dirt roads, hauling my dirtbikes mountain bikes amd kayaks with it all the time and cant wait to rack up half a million miles on it
What about that hump between the folded Seats? You don't feel that?
7:01 I use a foam roll. Plus, with the right air mattress, you won’t feel the hump.
Relying on Google Maps is like relying on Nature to provide your next meal
nice
Haha! I’m seeing this comment a half a year too late, but this is hilarious. Well done!
Do you put anything in the windows?
My rear windows are tinted extra dark. I use a sunshade on the front windshield and then use place shirt or sweater to cover my driver and passenger side windows. I simply drape a shirt over the windows and then close the door. I have complete privacy this way.
Is this the California park that was just destroyed in fire?
I hear the remote parts of sequoia are on fire, but yes, it’s burning. A lot of California is burning 😭. I’m actually in Yellowstone national park right now and the California fires has affected the visibility out here.
How far into the 41” 2x4 did you attach the 2x8’s? Looks about 4 inches? And same q for the 9 3/4 pieces.
Here's a novel question: every had any issue with your CVT? overheating and/or not able to climb fairly steep terrain?
Yes, yes and yes. It failed at 60k Miles, which was before the 2 year mark for me. I moved onto something else.

Haven't you heard of the roof fixed Awning? ?? Everyone in Australia has them fixed to the RoofRack
I'm building a panelvan (3 dr)
I'm trying to keep as much stuff off the roof (for aerodynamic reasons). Also, those awnings get quite expensive, so I found this to be a cheaper solution. I wish you the best of luck building your panelvan :P
@@JonDZ_Adventuring .....thanks. I understand the notion of keeping the roof clear.
I have a "roof box" that causes considerable drag.
Have you considered the "bolt rope" option to "fix" one side of your awning onto the side of your car ?

Just wondering when or if it is better to turn off vdc traction control when using x mode , cheers
@@JonDZ_Adventuring thanks , enjoying your vids .

Henry, I just wrote you a 3 page essay, but then I typed something into the search bar and it erased my entire response.
@@JonDZ_Adventuring lol yeah know the feeling that's happen to me too
I was on typing away for about an hour, so I'm going to have to spare the details (which were really good).
(in my original message I went into so soooo much detail)
Henry, my advise is enjoy your vehicle.
Nice car Subaru, but I could not live with that nasty CVT, so no thanks.
jan frosty I couldn’t either. Check out my more recent video’s for my new setup.
