Colleges are from preprimary(around 6) to 18 years old, and highschools are from around 14-18.. colleges are also more private schools.. the closest public school to a college would be KES, but even they're a public school

The longest successful nfl field goal is 64 yards, so 58 metres. That kick was 52 metres. 57 yards.
    Puts it into perspective

Keep in mind the kick was made at see level, which makes the kick far more difficult due to gravitational pull

You watching some school boy rugby here...High school rugby is huge in South Africa, with many schools having rivalries going back decades...Where you're seeing what looks to be the whole school, is for the most part all of the sports teams from each school which took part in matches throughout the day supporting the schools main team. There are weekends though, for big 'Derby" games, where the schools have 'Compulsories'...basically the home school is expected to attend and support the first teams.
At high school level, depending on the school...you can have up to 8 teams for each age group competing on a Saturday...so every Saturday is basically SPORTS day from 8 in the morning culminating in the First team, or 18A side at the end of the day.
School boy rugby starts basically from grade 4 although in the northern areas of the country, they have a thing called 'Bulletjies Rugby', which basically means little bulls rugby...ie - rugby for age 5 and 6. Rugby in the northern provinces starts as early as grade 1, playing barefoot with an altered form of the game but if I recall correctly in the southern provinces, rugby really starts from grade 4...with the more physical aspects only really coming in from grade 6...(yes, primary school)
Man, attending a proper Derby game, can be like going to a stadium for a semi-final or final...with the kids cheering, and yelling their warcries...It's a fantastic outing.

Love the passion of these young men, miss the intervarsity days. these are not championships, most are rivalries that have gone on for generations, and schools in which rugby is life.
In America you have Varsity and JV teams, Some of these schools have 8 senior teams, so 160 boys compete to be on that field. that's whaat you work for from u/14.

  • @TheTwarag
    @TheTwarag 3 ปีที่แล้ว +11

this is why the southern hemisphere teams are so good and usually better than northern hemisphere sides. they go and scout all the schools and get the best young lads at a very young age. they then gives the boys scholarships to rugby schools. here in the uk its much different. you usually play for your local side and a scout will, if you show promise, will ask the player to have a trail which is crap compared to aus, NZ, and the boks.

I taught at one of the traditional Boys High Schools in South Africa for a few years in Kwa-Zulu Natal. What you seeing there are normal match fixtures, not championships matches.
The best way to explain it to you is like College football games. But in school boy rugby they play for pride, bragging rights and the rivalries between schools can get very intense. For instance when I was at Glenwood High School, two weeks before we would play DHS, I personally would start getting my team I coached ready. My teams knew we have 1 rule, we can lose every game of the year expect DHS. That been said we didn't go out to lose games. But DHS there was no option, it's a win. Some of the most intense rivalries I have ever seen are at school boy level.

Oh yes, huge energy, on the road to a career.
My school should be reviewed, as it was in that first clip after the intro ended, after the "SA School Rugby": the clip looked like from a 2019 game between Bishops v Rondebosch, and it was a Rondebosch try.
Still, Rondebosch were soundly beaten that day. Bishops did not have any of its tries included in this highlights video, which isn't surprising: we're among the best nationwide, some close games, a few loses but usually easily beating the other team. Francois Lowe is from Bishops, btw.
There was at least one other try scored against Bishops in this video, and it was a fine try, but Bishops is worth a look: Bishops wears dark blue socks and clothing with a light blue collar & top of socks or all white clothing, always with the 'Bishops' Mitre badge.
We're the oldest private school in South Africa, since 1849, while SACS is a public/government school and is as old. The Springbok colours were adopted from Bishops colours, way back then.

Most of these game are u18 games - most are high schools but there are some Craven Week clips as well a few SA Schools clips
    - Most of these high schools play in a Super league where the top schools in the country play each other as they are too strong for the average schools in their areas. The derby games between Paarl Gymnasium (Gimmies) and Paarl Boys High (Boishaai) can pull up to 20,000 spectators
    - Craven Week is an inter-provincial competition (inter-State in the US, do you have those for football?). A provincial team gets selected from the best players in each province. This is where players also get drug tested as this is run by the National rugby union
    - After Craven Week a SA Schools team is selected and they play against 2 or 3 countries' u18 teams, e.g. England, France, Wales

Rugby in South Africa isn't a sport, its a religion! Doesn't matter if its primary school, high school, club rugby, provincial or national rugby, if there was ever a valid reason to be absent for whatever reason, all you have to say is, "We have to make in time before kickoff!". Over here we eat, sleep, and if you fortunate enough to have a few Castles(a locally produced beer by South African Breweries), we drink rugby!

Bro all boys schools have sister schools. I went to a school with 1500 boys and just down the road, we had 3 all girls schools. Hoes gor fays my nigga. And the schools have exchanges too so you get to mingle.
Its bot that bad. But the thing about same sex schools is that its teaches you to be a man. I went to a girls and boys school too. Boys schhols are far better at preparing you for life and to make a success.
