I am continuing my series of "How To Make A Base Wreath" with this new tutorial showing how to make a base wreath using the RUFFLE method. A lot of people have been asking me how I decorate my base wreaths and what my process is like when I do add embellishments. Stay tuned as next week I will be uploading a new video showing you how I take this base wreath and make a Halloween wreath. Don't forget to come back and check that out next week!!!! I hope you enjoyed today's video and if you did, please feel free to hit that LIKE button and maybe leave me a COMMENT down below. Don't forget to SUBSCRIBE to my channel and hit that NOTIFICATION bell so you can be notified when I upload a new video. Thank you so much for watching...take care...by for now.
I finally found somebody that explains this and shows it in such a manner that I am able to do it! Your videos are absolute perfection, and I love your sense of humor, and how simplified you make everything. I cannot thank you enough! So happy I found your channel.🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤
I found your videos just browsing. You keep things very detailed, organized, and simple. In the coming weeks I will be buying my supplies to practice. I love that you place your pipe cleaners before adding deco mesh. ❤
Hi LeTerra, thank you so much for finding me. I'm so glad you enjoyed this video and happy to hear you're going to be starting your wreath making journey as well. YAY. Don't forget, have fun with it. Thanks again and take care. 😊😊😊
Hey Dave, I like the way you took your time showing how to make a work wreath; easy to follow and good tip on gluing the chenille stems so they won't slip. The black mesh is awesome. Can't wait to see the finished wreath!!
Hi PK...thanks so much 😉👍😁. I think the black mesh is awesome as well, great minds think alike. LOL. I hope you like how I finish this one off. Take care.
I’ve been watching your videos for a while now and love them. You inspired me to try and make wreaths. I attached my pipe cleaners tonight, tomorrow I do the deco mesh. I even ordered some beautiful things from Susan....I love supporting 🇨🇦 businesses. Thank you for sharing your talents.
Hi Wendy...thank you so much for watching my videos and for leaving such a wonderful comment. You totally made my day reading this. That is great that you're supporting Canadian businesses!!! And I hope your wreath turns out amazing!!! I wish I could see it when it's all done.
Hello Dave I am new at making wreaths and I glad I found your wreath tutorials. You make wreath tutorial very easy and fun. Keep up the good work. Thank you.
Dave I loved this video. It was a great basic video with great instructions. I’m working now so not crafting as much. I’m going to make one of these for Christmas. Looking forward to the completed project.
Great instruction as always, Dave!! Plus that black is so classic. I think it could be interesting on a white wall with white embellishments - kind of tuxedo or black and white ball vibes. Can't wait to see what you do with the Halloween decor though!!
Hi Lisa…thank you so much. 😊😊😊. I do love a good classic black wreath. I love the tuxedo idea!!! Next week you’ll see the black and white come through!!! 😊😊😊
Hi Tamala...I have to say thank you for your continued support through my journey here on TH-cam. It is sincerely appreciated. I'm so glad you like my style and how I do my videos. Means a lot to me. I hope you like what I do next week!!! 😉😉😉
I just came across your tutorial for mesh wreath making!!! You are amazing! I have never made a wreath mesh, have wanted to so bad but never knew how. Your videos are so detailed with each step, I know I can make one now! I’m so excited to make a Christmas Wreath! Thank You, Thank You! One question, if using a 18 wire wreath frame are instructions the same maybe using more of the bubbles or puffs? Thank You in advance..
Hi Deborah...thank you so much for such a wonderful comment. You totally put a smile on my face and made my day. The wire wreath frame that I used in this tutorial is a 18" wire wreath frame, so you can follow it step by step if you're using the same size wreath form. Or if you want it to be fuller, you can add more pipe cleaners and ruffles. Hope that helps. 😃😃😃
Hi Nancy...thank you so much for the lovely comment and for watching my videos. Yes, there are a couple of videos that shows different colours. There is one that is a bubble method with yellow, blue and white deco mesh. Also some of the curly loop method wreaths that I do have different colours (like the Halloween one). Hope that helps. Take care and thanks again.
Hi Dave! You are amazing!! Question: My 18" wire wreath has 9 sections! ( crossbars). Itis using 27 Pipe cleaners..... Should I just skip every other one? Thank you so much for all your awesome videos!!
Hi Melanie. Thank you so much. If you're using the same size of mesh and thickness, then I would say you could skip every other one. It all depends on how dense your mesh is (or how "see through" it is) and what your "fullness" preference is for a wreath. I love a FULL DENSE wreath, so I tend to use a lot of deco mesh and close together. If your mesh is dense and such, then I'd say you're good to go with every other one. Test it out on one section, stand back, take a look at it, hang it up, stand back and take a look at it. If you're liking it, then continue. If not, then add one at a time till you're happy. Does that all make sense? LOL. Sorry, I rambled a bit. HAHA. Take care.
@@DavesWreaths Dave thank you so much for your reply!! I did wind up using every section. The fullness is beautiful! Your videos are the best. I am a beginner, but with your instruction I feel confident. Thank you so much! Can't wait for new vids!!! Have an awesome week!!😉
Love how simple and detailed your instructions are!! I have a "14 frame on hand. Do you know what adjustments I need to make to use it for this method?
Hi Brad...thanks so much for the comment and question. I haven't done a 14" wire frame with the ruffle method for the 10" deco mesh yet. I have done it with 6" deco mesh and it turned out great. I used 24 stems and cut the mesh at 20". That's my adjustments for what I did on mine. Hope that helps. Thanks again.
Hi Dave! I did a base like this but it is a multicolored fall wreath. Orange and brown. Do I need to add additional mesh or can I just add ribbon.I should have went solid. It would have been easier to coordinate. Thanks for your help
Hi Lucille, you can add what ever you wish to add, this is your creation and you make it however you want. I do love the idea of the multi coloured fall wreath. Many colours add so much interest to a wreath and yes, add ribbon to spice it up a little more. HAHA. Thank you so much and have fun with it. 😊
When adding the ruffles are you zigzagging back and forth or are you doing for example all the bottom level, then the 2nd, and then the top? It was a little hard for me to see. I am really bad at making crafts, this is my first go around with this method, I have only mastered the curly method and that is all. Thanks, love your wreaths!
Hi there, that is great you are working on the Ruffle method. It is one of my favourite wreath methods to do. For me, I usually work on the outside first, all the way around, and then I work on the inside all the way around. You can zig zag if you want, it doesn't hurt at all to do something different. It's all in how you wish to add your ruffles. Have fun making your wreath!!!
Hi Jenny, yes you could do this on a 14" frame, you would just need to adjust where you place the stems and have fewer. If you're doing it on an 18" frame with three bars, then I would attach the stems on the outside and middle stem for your first round and then the middle and inside for your second round. Hope that helps. 😊
Hi there, yes you can use a 14" frame for this method. If you wanted a very full wreath, then you can keep the same dimensions. If you wanted to have a less full wreath, and a centre showing, then I would probably cut them down by 10-15" for the ruffles. That will make it less full and you can still see the centre part. Hope that helps. Happy wreath making. 😊😊😊
Hi Sofie. I would start by choosing the colours of the football team and then alternate, or layer, the ruffles. Then you can add some toy footballs on there, or a team banner. Hope that helps. Thank you.
Oh that is great!!! I’m so glad you are going to make a wreath. It is a lot of fun. Yes, I do have videos that show you how it make a wreath with 6” mesh. Start with the complication video. It has some wreaths in there using the 6” deco mesh. 😊😊😊
Hi Kathy, I would use the same lengths that I show in the video to get the full ruffle effect. If you're doing red, white, and blue, I'd cut each colour at the same length as shown in the video. That would make a full wreath. Thank you. 😊
Hi Gaylene...yes, you can totally do that for the smaller wreath form. If you want it to be fuller, then just keep the lengths the same size. Thanks and have fun with it. ❤️
Hi Mook...I used six pipe cleaners on the outside, on the third wire I used six as well, and then on the inner wire, I used another six. If you wish to have a fuller looking wreath, then I would add one or two more stems in there as well. Hope that helps...have fun!!!
That's right never said that 2 rolls were used you can only get 18 20" cuts for a 14" wire frame if your accurate and the manufacturer didn't cut you short then better off cutting between 19" make sure you don't have to open another roll of mesh for all the new wreath makers that should of been explained
Hi Paula...the black mesh in the video was purchased at Canadian Craft Imports. I know there are a lot of retailers in the USA who sell this name brand as well. Michael's is a really good place to get mesh here in Canada, so I'm assuming it's just as good in the States as well. Hope that helps. 😃😃😃
Hi Julie, thanks for your question. I'm not sure what you are referring to when you asked why I cut it? Was it the deco mesh? or the pipe cleaners? Thanks.
Hi Nancy, you can keep the 30" and create this using a 14" wire frame. It would be fuller in the centre if you're doing that size. If you want a less full centre, then I would do shorter cuts. Thanks.
Hi Ornery...sorry to hear you are having some troubles with the Ruffle method. Perhaps you need to reduce the spacing between your stems or use a thicker deco mesh. Those two items can help with keeping the wreath fuller and not being able to see the wire. Hope that helps.

How about the Nazzie look, like on the penny-wise clown wreath? Where it looks jagged
Hi Kris, good idea. I have seen that method used before. Great suggestion for a new video. Thank you.

Hi Dave 🤚🏼 ok did you use only one roll of the 10 inch black deco mesh or 2 . Thank you 😊 for sharing 🤗 ur so nice . I’m from Dunkirk NY 🤗
Hello Benita!!! I used two rolls for this method. I’m so glad you liked it. Have a good one in Dunkirk NY 😊

Hey Dave I have a 14 inch wreath. Should I just make my deco-mesh length shorter?

Wreath number 2 in 2022### ###
Hello Dave! I’m using an 18in but somehow my total of pipe cleaner is adding up to yours how many on the outside middle and inner please?
Hi Mook...I used six pipe cleaners on the outside, on the third wire I used six as well, and then on the inner wire, I used another six. If you wish to have a fuller looking wreath, then I would add one or two more stems in there as well. Hope that helps...have fun!!!
How many rolls of mesh do you use? A 10 yard roll of mesh is 360 inches. 18 cuts at 30 inches is 540 inches.
Hi Wanda...for this wreath, I used almost two full rolls. Each roll was 10'x10yards in length. Thanks.
That's right never said that 2 rolls were used you can only get 18 20" cuts for a 14" wire frame if your accurate and the manufacturer didn't cut you short then better off cutting between 19" make sure you don't have to open another roll of mesh for all the new wreath makers that should of been explained

Why do you cut it
Hi Julie, thanks for your question. I'm not sure what you are referring to when you asked why I cut it? Was it the deco mesh? or the pipe cleaners? Thanks.
My wire wreath is 14inched.
If using 14 inch wreath should still cut 30 inch pieces or smaller
Hi Nancy, you can keep the 30" and create this using a 14" wire frame. It would be fuller in the centre if you're doing that size. If you want a less full centre, then I would do shorter cuts. Thanks.
In the video, you keep saying 18 inches but the name on the video states 10 inches. Which is it? Please and thank you!
@@dorisledford4897 Hello Doris, the width of the deco mesh is 10” and is cut at 18” lengths. Hope that helps 😀
so if you used dollar tree deco mesh you would have to used more
Hi there, yes you would need about 6 rolls on a 14” wired frame. 😊
Love the videos, but the music is distracting.
Hi Sandy, thanks so much. Yes, the music was a bit of a trend when I did this video, but luckily in my latest videos there is no background music. 😊
Great tutorial, BUT the background music, UGH!!!
Hi David, thanks for the feedback. In my later videos there is no longer background music. Thanks and have a good one.
Ugh!!! Sigh. I don't understand why all you can see is my wire frame. My version looks nothing like this one. I can never get the ruffle method down.
Hi Ornery...sorry to hear you are having some troubles with the Ruffle method. Perhaps you need to reduce the spacing between your stems or use a thicker deco mesh. Those two items can help with keeping the wreath fuller and not being able to see the wire. Hope that helps.
@Dave's Wreaths and Things Thank you for responding. I will try it again with more stems and less space.
Turn down the music😊
