Funny thing about the football throwing scene that you thought looked weird. The male actor hated how he threw it because there was a bunch of filming equipment in front of him so he couldn't do it properly. Production told him it didn't matter.

I was a duff. My best friend at the time literally told me senior year that when we were freshman she’d walk next to me in the hallway because she looked better by comparison. Needless to say we’re not friends anymore.

I was aware I was the duff in my friend groups but never minded so much. I think that’s mainly bc my friends weren’t the stereotypical b*tches. They were just living their best life, never treated me less than. Even the one I now call Krazy Kristen, when we would go clubbing she never let me hide in the shadows or be treated badly by people just trying to get to her. Altho she is crazy, she was a good friend in that aspect. Sorry you had b*tches! You’re better than that!

Yeah, her reaction was wild. I think it sort of made sense to her character though, it was a mix of insecurity, typical teen dramatics and rashness, and a lack of healthy, clear communication taught at home

I was starting businesses in high school, and that type of recognition would've helped me a whole lot. Insecurity has never been a trait I've even associated with. People have called me ugly before, I've congratulated them on having eyes that work. If they called me stupid, I've told them I already knew that, good to know they caught up.

Glad you did this. One of the most underapprecitaed teen movie ever! I feel like if it came out in early 2000s it may have been a big hit bc it was the golden age of teen romcom (if not close) or maybe not cuz it's obvious that it was heavily inspired by mean girls (without being a copycat..and that's one of the things I like the most about this movie ) . Even tough I didn't like every thing in mean girls I can objectively say that it's better written movie ..but the duff is still a solid movie that’s often overlooked imo , even tough it’s fairly predictable…it’s still funny , entertaining with a good message 👍🏾
The woman who wrote the book The Duff said that she based it off the things that she was experiencing in high school. She was 17 when she wrote the book. Mean Girls isn't an original idea either. It was also based on a book.

Movie making and novels are different worlds .The author had pretty much no creative control concerning the movie making(except the writing ).Even the writing is most of the time modified by the screenwriter so it fits more to a cinematic audience , what’s written in the book is often not directly copy/paste in a movie … which was the case for this movie . It’s all on the the producers , but especially the director and the rest of the movie production team who’re responsable to set the tone , the vibe , how to display the humour etc. in the movie . That’s why if we took another director we wouldn’t have the same movie . Not every director has the same vision of a novel. I think Harry Potter is a good example of this . They changed the director many times over the franchise , but you could tell that not every single Harry Potter movie had the same vibe and spin to it
even tough it’s from the same author. I am not saying that mean girls is a masterpiece or something ..but being able to “bring to life “ a novel is distinct to each movie director . The director of this movie was most likely inspired by the director of mean girls.

This book resonated so much with me when I read it as a little a children, and the movie is no different. Being a DUFF sucked, but at least it gave me matchmaking and people skills.

I actually feel like my best friend thought he was the duff, he was my wingman for basically all of college and he never really got any action, even tho I never thought he was ugly or anything. He just never put himself out there. He has a girlfriend now so he’s chilling but for a cool minute I think he thought he was undateable, which is tragic. Anyone else who sees this, y’all will get rejected. Everyone does. But that doesn’t mean ur ugly or unloveable. That just means that person ain’t right for u, and u gotta keep looking. I was definitely the duff. I have one friend who is drop dead GORGEOUS, and one day we were preparing to go out with a 3rd friend and me the 3rd friend joked that it didn't matter what we wore, no one was going to be looking at us. Gorgeous friend was confused and when we explained, she looked so heartbroken that she'd never noticed

I watched this movie yesterday bc it was free on TH-cam & I thought the plot didn’t make sense. When her crush “DUFFs” her, she cries to the boy that labeled her that first...the one that made her aware of this idea that she was “less than”. Also, when his friend was making fun of her in the cafeteria, he didn’t speak up, but decided to further humiliate her ¿
I watched this when it first came out because I was a fan of so many of the cast. Where you may know them from: Bella Thorne was in "Shake it Up" with Zendaya; she's been in tons of other things including the 3rd season of "The Masked Singer". I loved Mae Whitman in "Parenthood" but I think I first saw her in the movie "Hope Floats" as Sandra Bullock's daughter and she was amazing! Robbie Amell (the cousin of Stephen Amell from "Arrow") is currently in the tv show "Upload" and also appeared in The Flash, I first saw him in "Cheaper by the Dozen 2".

For the second half of my high school experience I was homeschooled, but during my freshman and sophomore year I pretty much attendended every high school dance. I had a lot of fun at them because I loved my high school community, but I can completely understand why people wouldn't like going to high school dances. It all depends on one's environment and personality haha
I ran for prom queen as a joke tbh but my ex had just broken up with me and I ended up winning Prom Queen so that was an interesting experience 😭

I enjoyed this movie. I read the book and saw the movie and I enjoyed both. I know a lot of people said they were upset or disappointed that the movie changed things from the book but I didn’t mind the changes. I saw it in the theater and actually teared in a moment I did not know why it tug at something to make me tear up but sometimes a scene you would never think would get a tear out of you does. Overall, good movie
Yeah the movie is actually alright but it took me a little while to like it cos when it first came out I was disappointed because the book seemed so fresh and a new take on high school life and dealt with really hard, serious issues. In comparison the movie felt like they’d taken out all the things that made the book unique and kinda made a generic teen movie... but watching again I think it’s ok, just separate from the book! Haha!

No, they were probably looking for a normal girl. There is no ugly or pretty. There's a whole world between that, where most people live. And she should look like the duff, because that's the role she plays. I think she's cute, but a cute girl you would know in real life.

I was definitely a Duff in my highschool friend group. All my female classmates were pretty and/or skinny.
But I wasn't the one that guy's approached to get their numbers or whatever, I was the body guard that destroyed any guys self esteem using words alone if they ever even tried to ask them out.

Bruh I've been the duff my entire life. Some notable experiences:
-that time I was at the grocery store and a guy tapped my shoulder and asked for my sister's number
-I went to a carnival with my friend and it turned into me third wheeling because some random guy started hanging out with us and it pretty much was a date at that point
-the time I was going to the drive in with my friend and she asked if we could pick up her friend Nick and that it was just a friendly thing, then he approached the passenger side door where I was and asked her if I was going to move to the back (yes, they ended up making out the entire time while I sat outside the car)
