陣頭 - 官將首開面, Guan Jiang Shou Face Painting 1, 阵头 - 官将首开面

The very excellent troupe Xin Zhuang Bei Ji Hui 新莊北極會 allowed me to film their Guan Jiang Shou 官將首 having their faces painted in preparation for a religious parade. This process is religious in nature and called 'face opening' 開面 (kai mian). The two characters that form the Guan Jiang Shou 官將首 are the helpers of the Bodhisattva Di Zang Wang Pu Sa 地藏王菩薩 and are called General Zeng 增將軍 and General Sun 損將軍. This is a Taiwanese tradition which is slowly spreading beyond the borders of Taiwan into the South East Asian diaspora. Their purpose within the parade is to open the way for deities by removing malevolent spirits from the path.

I've never seen such young Guan Jiang Shou. You are lucky to see the procedure of their face painting (開面)

@frozenninja808 As far as I know it is water colour. I was surprised, as i thought that if they sweat or if it rains it will run, but they said it was water colour skin paint.
