You guys really do need a "Just a good B-Movie" stamp. If you're going to carry on watching recommended films without knowing anything about them (which is a brave choice, BTW) you're going to run into more and more like this that are low budget but in no way actively bad and are still entertaining.
Jason's declaration that the film is too good to be So Bad + Erin's circular...trapezoidal...even rectangular logic for her stamp = this episode had everything!!
Trancers is high art compared to most films on this channel lol. Excellent B movie imo. I did always think Helen Hunt was a bit young for Tim Thomerson though.

Omg I haven't seen or thought about this gem in ages. This era of straight to VHS science fiction movies was the best. Back when you could rent 5 videos for $5 and you and all your friends would spend all friday or saturday night just watching cheesy sci-fi and horror movies and eating pizza. 📼🍕📺

I never understood why Helen Hunt returned for Trancers 2 and 3 when her career started taking off with 'Mad about You' then I found out that she started the tv show after those three Trancer films. Love her and Tim T. They are a huge part of putting the film above other low budget films of that time.
I always liked Helen Hunt, she seemed pretty chill and down to do movies like this. I'm not saying she is the best actress ever, but entertaining and I never personally disliked her work. Kind of regular woman type of actress

The tooth thing works with strike anywhere matches. You can also light them with your thumbnail, or a bunch of other fun places. They also strike really easily against one another, which is less than safe if you have a partially filled box of matches and they're treated roughly.

Tim Thomerson's best movie is hands down Dollman vs Demonic Toys. It has a scene of a baby doll trying to impregnate a woman shrunk to the size of a barbie doll and Tim's character Dollman is of the same size. It's typical Full Moon stuff, but some of the scenery is amazing.
I always loved "Dollman V Demonic Toys" just because it's so ridiculous and they did it anyway. Love when people make things purely for entertainment (and financial obviously) rather than high brow think piece movies. Sometimes we just want pulp

In keeping with the time swapping theme, you guys should check out Biggles: Adventures in Time, also from that golden period of the mid-80’s. It’s a weird, mostly low budget, and somewhat awkward sci fi take on a character I understand had been very popular in the UK since, like, the 30’s. It was supposedly hyped upon its premiere to be a potential franchise contender for the era, but it bombed big time. I used to watch it a bunch of times when I was a very young one, as they played it frequently on one or the other movie channels for at least a couple of years in a row right in that impressionable point in my childhood. It was only a while later that I learned it was in fact an “obscure” film that practically nobody else knew about or had any memory of. It has Peter Cushing in it, but other than him, no real noteworthy names to speak of. Regardless, I always thought it was fun, in a seriously and unabashedly cheesy way.
Yes as an 80s kid in the UK I remember Biggles, it definitely brings me back to that time and I have seen bits of it on tv over the years. You sum up the film very well, I don't think the world was ready for a Biggles franchise and his character was very old fashioned. Also Peter Cushing's last film role.

I really like Tim Thomerson. He did a really good job in Nemesis, and that's one of the reasons I liked that movie so much. I just can't get over th fact that, in this movie, he was about my age. He's iike Charles Bronson, always looking somewhere in between 45 and 60.

"Trancers" rocks and Tim Thomerson is a god among men! He and Helen Hunt give quality here like it was an A budget blockbuster. A Charles Band film is a guaranteed good time every time.

The fourth and fifth movies both came out in 1994, one in february the other in november, sixth one came out in 2002. Quite some time passed with the last movie and bonus film, Tim Thomerson was there for the first five movies and for the bonus film, kind of impressive.
Yeah this is a classic film from it’s era… there are several with Tim… he was a well know stand up comedian with a great bit about sound effects in western movies… he started doing these types of movies and he was always great… even in Dollman which is sort of silly … they made the most of what they had which makes it work.
Terminator was released only about 2 weeks before Trancers so there probably wasnt any influence unless it was behind the scenes. Like the guy who made Trancers knew Terminator was being made and tried to beat it to the box office. I doubt that was the case though.

Also you really need to watch Remo Williams: The Adventure Begins ( has both Kate Mulgrew and Wilford Brimley in it and for some reason Kate seems like she's high through about 3/4 of the movie) it's a very weird very entertaining movie.
Trancers isn't an academy award winning movie, but back in the 80s, it was great entertainment at 02:00 a.m on HBO when you were up shit faced. Plus Helen Hunt was hot.
When I was a kid we used to set off those paper strip caps with our front teeth. You would dry off the tooth with your shirt and then quickly drag the cap across the sharp edge of your tooth and it would go off. We got the idea from old movies at the time where they did it with wooden matches and it actually worked.
It's great. The one thing I'd criticize when it comes to Trancers is that it maybe has too many things. You'd need a tall building to do this elevator pitch. "It's Blade Runner. But it's Terminator. But also Quantum Leap. And also there are zombies or something. And the villain is a psychic cult leader. Wait! I didn't even tell you about the alcoholic homeless baseball player yet!"
Trancers is exactly what Jason said - just a good B movie. Tim T. is a legend. See also "Cherry 2000" with Melanie Griffith. Also featuring Laurence Fishburne and Robert Z'Dar!
I was able to light "strike anywhere" matches on my back tooth during the early 90's, but by the 2000's they had changed the formula so that they were less prone to strike on themselves, reduced the amount of initial oxidizer, as well as produce less smoke, which made many of the match-lighting tricks I knew next to impossible.
You are not gonna believe this, but Tim Thomerson started off as a comedian back then. He even worked with Robin Williams on a TV show. Then he became a straight to video action star. I like him, he reminds me of a more serious Bruce Campbell.
Courtney Thorne Smith was also in a great 80’s show called Misfits of Science . I mean the last time I saw it I was a teenager so it might’ve sucked but I know it was pretty good from my memories but then again, maybe it actually sucks. I don’t know lol.
I recommend the book Confessions of a puppet master … Charles Band biography of sorts who produced all the Full Moon films and directed many including Trancers … I liked his efforts because he was always trying to make good films… lots of the stuff from the era didn’t try to be good…
I remember taping this movie on VHS from TV when I was a kid and enjoying the synth heavy soundtrack more than anything. Then I found out it had five sequels I'd never even known existed

This movie gets better each time you watch.
I was able to light "strike anywhere" matches on my back tooth during the early 90's, but by the 2000's they had changed the formula so that they were less prone to strike on themselves, reduced the amount of initial oxidizer, as well as produce less smoke, which made many of the match-lighting tricks I knew next to impossible.
Tim Thomerson is still around. He was only 38 when this movie came out.

You are not gonna believe this, but Tim Thomerson started off as a comedian back then. He even worked with Robin Williams on a TV show. Then he became a straight to video action star. I like him, he reminds me of a more serious Bruce Campbell.

This was released here in Australia as "Future Cop"- and was a B movie staple of my teen years.

I recommend the book Confessions of a puppet master … Charles Band biography of sorts who produced all the Full Moon films and directed many including Trancers … I liked his efforts because he was always trying to make good films… lots of the stuff from the era didn’t try to be good…
I remember taping this movie on VHS from TV when I was a kid and enjoying the synth heavy soundtrack more than anything. Then I found out it had five sequels I'd never even known existed
