  • Starlings of India: There are 23 types of Starlings in India, and the state-wise details are as follows,
    Andaman & Nicobar Islands - Chestnut Cheeked Starling, White Headed Starling
    Arunachal Pradesh - White Cheeked Starling
    Chhattisgarh - Bastar Hill Myna
    Manipur - Red Billed Starling
    West Bengal - Chestnut Winged Starling
    Indian Subcontinent - Asian Glossy Starling, Asian Pied Starling, Brahminy Starling, Chestnut Tailed Starling, Collared Myna, Indian Myna, Jungle Myna, Rosy Starling
    North India - Bank Myna, Common Starling, Spot Winged Starling
    Central India - Bank Myna, Bastar Hill Myna
    North East India - Daurian Starling, Golden Crested Myna, Great Myna, Spot Winged Starling
    Indochina - Crested Myna, Golden Crested Myna
    South West India - Daurian Starling, Malabar Starling, Southern Hill Myna
    21 species of myna and starling can be found in India.
    Asian Glossy Starling has a fierce-look with beautiful ruby-red eyes. The adult bird is dark with greenish gloss in a good light.
    Asian Pied Starling has a pointed yellowish bill with an orange base. They have bare, deep orange patch around the eye which contrasts with their white cheek.
    Bank Myna looks similar to Indian Myna but has brick red coloured bare skin behind the eye in place of yellow found in Northern and Central India.
    Bastar Hill Myna is the state bird of Chhattisgarh, they have fleshy wattles on the side of head and nape.
    Brahminy Starlings are pale buff creamy with a black cap and a loose crest. Their bill is yellow with a bluish base.
    Chestnut Tailed Starlings are pale-headed with a dark-tipped wing, also called as grey-headed myna.
    Chestnut Winged Starling is mostly found in the Afrotropics and in parts of West Bengal.
    Collared Mynas have a creamy collar; often found on agricultural fields and on the outskirts of villages.
    Common Starling is also known as European starling found mostly in North India. Their plumage is iridescent black, glossed purple or green, and spangled with white, especially in winter.
    Crested Myna is also known as Chinese starling found along the Indochina belt. They have a crest-like structure on the forehead that covers their nostrils.
    Golden Crested Mynas are found along Indochina belt and the North East of India. Male has golden-yellow forehead to crown and nape, extending down to chin and centre of the throat.
    Great Mynas have elongated forehead feathers that may curl backwards, also known as white-vented myna found in North East of India.
    Indian Myna is also known as common myna, have a yellow beak and eye patch, and the body is brown.
    Jungle Mynas have frontal crest; pale, yellow or blue eyes, and a dark orange-yellow bill.
    Malabar Starlings are also known as Blyth’s starling, they look similar to Chestnut-tailed Starling, but have greyer head and shorter bill found in South West of India.
    Red-Billed Starlings have a white head with a red bill, females are duller than males. They are found in Manipur.
    Rosy Starlings have a pink body, pale pinkish-orange legs and bill, and glossy black head, wings and tail.
    Southern Hill Mynas look similar to Bastar Hill Myna, but the fleshy wattles are widely spread apart behind their nape. They are found in South Western parts of India.
    Spot Winged Starlings have a white patch on each wing. Male is metallic dark blue-grey above with an orange breast and belly. Female is plain grey all over. They are found in North and North East of India.
    White Cheeked Starlings are found in Arunachal Pradesh. They are dark grey-brown overall with white cheeks.
    White-Headed Starlings also known as Andaman White-Headed Starlings have a white head, white breast, grey back with yellow legs and pale bill.
