Wow...Hermosisima voz...me gusto la cancion!!! ... Lo mejor que le escucho a Nightwish vocalmente hablando desde que salio Tarja...!!! Nightwish+Jonsu= Grandioso...!!!
it sounds like a voice from ancient northern forest. Snow, deep forest and full moon and the last wild girl from forgotten legends ))))) P. S. sorry for my english :(
i absolutely LOVE the vocals on this song, personally... jonsu has a lovely voice reminiscent of epic fantasy. her singing is like a battle cry and a lullaby both at the same time. powerful and inspiring.
nightwish should make more songs in finish. I don't understand their shyness when it comes to their mother tongue. its ridiculous. Finnish sounds amazing. its mesmerising just to hear someone capable of pronouncing those words.
+RoScFan Their current singer is Dutch and the previous one was Swedish, so that's probably why. I'm guessing that's also why they got a guest singer for this song, since it was produced when they had the Swedish singer. Their original Finnish singer, Tarja Turunen, left the band almost 11 years ago.
+RoScFan I don't know honestly, if I were more cynical I would say it's because English songs sell better. I think most people are less willing to listen to music that they can't understand the lyrics to - personally I prefer it, I find most lyrics to just be distracting and languages like Finnish sound so much more eloquent .
+RoScFan As a native Finnish speaker, I find it easier to express or explain myself in English. I always feel awkward and somewhat pretentious trying to describe things using my native language no matter wether it's complex emotions or just regular day to day events. In short Finnish is just a lot of effort to say things in any descriptive fashion that isn't immediately obvious like say the weather. Might be I just typed a bunch of bullshit because I feel awkward and pretentious anyway. :D
you probably dont care but if you're bored like me during the covid times you can stream all the latest movies on instaflixxer. Have been streaming with my girlfriend during the lockdown :)
Sanan virkan, noin nimean minun ystävät, että a few months ago, this song made me to start to learn Finnish finally, which I find a quite beautiful and exciting language. That's a pleasure to learn and to speak and to listen it and to discover the similarities between it and my language, since now I see, Hungarian and Finnish indeed has a lot of common things. And a song with lines like this: kielon istutin ikihankeen..., just simply awesome. Greetings from Hungary.
i think nightwish should makes more songs in finnish!! it´s a stunning language!! if god exist and has a language he speaks finnish!! i love finnish language!!
Tää jylhä kauneus ja ääretön yksinäisyys Lapsuuteni metsän, taivaan Kaikuu se haikeus halki tän matkan Aamun tullen yö tarinansa kertoo Jylhä on kauneus ja ääretön yksinäisyyteni Sitä henkeensä halajaa Kehtoni hauta, hautani paikka Erämaan viimeinen on Minne katosivat muut Suon noidat, neidontornit Ja varjoissa havisevat puut Kielon istutin ikihankeen Ja hiljaisuuden tultua luotin tulevaan
Nukkuu korpi, ja nyt, aatoksissain minä matkaa teen Yli metsien, uinuvan veen Kuutar taivaan yön valaisee Maalaa maiseman, pohjoisen siimeksen Unta onko tää, Vai kuolema jossa palata sinne saan missä hiillos jo luovuttaa lumen alla Kun astun maailmaan, erämaan aikaan Ensilumi satoi kahdesti Maalasi sieluni taulun
Pari kertaa piti sulatella, mutta niin useimmiten löydän ne suosikkikipaleet. Ensikuulemalta ei uppoo, mutta syystä X pakko palata ja kuunnella uudelleen... ja sitten kolahtaa :)
Listening this song is like going in the past, DPP is dark but this song is similar to their old songs, you can feel like you can fly, it's my favourite song from their last album
up until this day i only knew the "instrumental" version of this song, and by god they should have released this version instead! its good (although i don't understand a word of what she is singing!)
i think that is very intresting song.. i like that. Jonsu sing about finnish wilderness.. Ensilumi satoi kahdesti Maalasi sieluni taulun Tää jylhä kauneus ja ääretön yksinäisyys Lapsuuteni metsän, taivaan Kaikuu se haikeus halki tän matkan Aamun tullen yö tarinansa kertoo Jylhä on kauneus ja ääretön yksinäisyyteni Sitä henkeensä halajaa Kehtoni hauta, hautani paikka Erämaan viimeinen on
because Anette isn't finnish and they wanted this song singed in finnish, that's why they chose Jonsu, a native speaker and I think she did a pretty good job singing this song :D I love it.
This crude beauty and eternity of loneliness My childhood's forest, the skies The wistfulness echoes throughout this journey As the morning dawns the night tells its story Crude is the beauty and my eternal loneliness One craves it in their spirit My cradle's grave, my grave's location is the last one of wilderness
lol Im not fom Finland, but I think the song is basically about the title - she is describing the wilds and the "rugged beauty and infinate lonliness". She also sings about witches and tombs so I think it's a medieval style song - sorry that my language skills are so rudimentary, but I think that's what it's basically about
I fully agree! For me as foreigner, I am stunned by how she things it (namely, very fast, and the words "strangely" spread across the rythm). But yes, even I am fascinated by the finnish lyrics.
Yes, I live in Finland. Here goes, buddy: Last Of The Wilds The wilderness sleeps, and now in my thoughts I travel Above the forests, the sleeping water Lady Moon lights the night of the sky Paints the scenery, the shade of North Is this a dream, or a death in which I can return where the embers already give up under the snow When I step into the world, the time of wilderness The first snow fell twice Painting the canvas of my soul (I'll have to post the rest in another reply)
You can hear more Jonsus singing finnish or english. Band is "Indica" and new english album Away away. Some good ones are: Breathe, Nursery Crimes, Erie Eden, Liljas´s Lament etc
I like the song much better as instrumental, but I also like the words. I think the best combination for me is when I listen to the instrumental and go through the words in my head, so that I don't have her voice in my head.
@DykaAmazonka Erm - sorry to correct you, but I'm afriad she isn't - on the album the fiddle player on Last of the Wilds is creditted as "Nollaig Casey" - the only finnish person playing in this song (aside from Nightwish of course) is "Senni Eskelinen" who plays the electric kantele
This bold beauty and infinite loneliness Of my childhood forest and sky That beauty echoes through this journey As the morning dawns, night tells it's story Bold is beauty and my infinite loneliness That's what man longs for his soul The grave of my cradle, the place of my grave is the last one in the wilderness
Where did the others disappear The witches of marsh, maidens' towers And the trees rattling in shade I planted a Lily of the Valley in the eternal snow And when the silence came I trusted in the forthcoming The virgin snow came twice Painted my soul's picture
I can hear the words perfectly clearly for this. I don't genuinely speak Finnish but I'm learning, and I have no trouble discerning the words here. And I can also hear Tarja fine on Kuolema Tekee Taiteilijan. The words sound the way they're supposed to in both cases, so I really don't see the issue. Also, the instrumental version is just Last of the Wilds... Jonsu's vocals make the song.
To those of you who dislike Jonsu... I like her voice. I think it's quite beautiful. And there is nothing wrong with Japanese music or singers. Anyway, she's Finnish.
Sweet! Personally I love how finnish spoken sounds... it's so beautiful. I wouldn't say I prefer this version from the instrumental but I prefer this girl's voice than Anette's. Anyway, I think that Last of the Wilds (intrumental)has a kind of Irish sound, and i love it. With the voice added, the song kinda lost this irish thing but I love it anyway, sounds really great. ( btw, who's the girl??)
well i have learned some finnish only becouse of this song. It is just as good as u think it is. Now i know all finnish words, that are used on this song:D Thanks Nightwish.
Finnish does have vowel harmony and it applies to individual words. Erämaa is a combination word, combining erä and maa, thus the vowel harmony exists for erä and maa separately.
(The rest) This rugged beauty and infinite loneliness Of my childhood's forest, sky That wistfulness echoes along this journey Upon dawn the nights tells its story Rugged is beauty and infinite my loneliness It's longed for spirit by Tomb of my cradle, place of my tomb Last of the wilds is Where got lost the others Swamp's witches, maiden's towers And the trees wuthering in the shadows A lily-of-the-valley I planted in the ever-snow And upon silence I trusted in future

Okay, some people were asking for the lyrics in english so here's a VERY free translation (some of the stuff doesn't really translate well or make sense if you're not finnish): (due to the length the lyrics are split up in several replies to this post - check those out)
It's also possible that, since they hadn't yet picked a female vocalist when they were writing this album, it would be easier to write songs for Marco, whose voice was familiar and available.
J'aime beaucoup Indica et Nightwish. La voix de Jonsu peut paraître assez spéciale mais écouter, par exemple, Eerie Eden, elle fait de magnifiques vocalises vers la fin! ^^
OOOOHHHHH what is that ? This is song from their last album Darka Passion Play called Las of the wilds... and here is somebody singing... where did you got it...

love this song. i think Jonsu's voice helps with the magic of this song and adds to the light playfulness of the melody. if it were a darker song, Tarja would be great, or if it were more of a power song Anette would be great, but i just don't think either of them would work in this song. but that's just my opinion.
Not necessarily. This song makes heavy use of Uilleann Pipes, an ethnically Irish instrument. Not to mention that pipes of any type are rarely used outside of Irish/Scottish folk.
Her voice is sooo cute!
Wow...Hermosisima voz...me gusto la cancion!!! ... Lo mejor que le escucho a Nightwish vocalmente hablando desde que salio Tarja...!!!
Nightwish+Jonsu= Grandioso...!!!
Btw, just noticed it also uses Finland's national instrument Kantele in the bridge ;) And the instrumental version uses it in the outro.
it sounds like a voice from ancient northern forest. Snow, deep forest and full moon and the last wild girl from forgotten legends )))))
P. S. sorry for my english :(
Josu's voice is so beautiful and unique!
i absolutely LOVE the vocals on this song, personally... jonsu has a lovely voice reminiscent of epic fantasy. her singing is like a battle cry and a lullaby both at the same time. powerful and inspiring.

+RoScFan
Tarja left the band almost 10 years ago. I don't think she's going to be working with Nightwish anymore, she's doing her own solo projects.
Funny how my favorite Nightwish song is the one with a guest vocalist.
me too
you probably dont care but if you're bored like me during the covid times you can stream all the latest movies on instaflixxer. Have been streaming with my girlfriend during the lockdown :)
@Colin Aden Definitely, I have been watching on instaflixxer for since november myself :D
@Colin Aden definitely, have been watching on InstaFlixxer for since november myself =)
:grins: Musical worlds collide! I never knew Jonsu had done a song with Nightwish :)
Jonsu and Indica have really grown on me in the past few weeks, I love their melodies and Jonsu' voice is so cute
me after solving problem C:
I love Jonsu and Nightwish :)
Sanan virkan, noin nimean minun ystävät, että a few months ago, this song made me to start to learn Finnish finally, which I find a quite beautiful and exciting language. One of my favorite, either instrumental or with jonsu...
i think nightwish should makes more songs in finnish!! it´s a stunning language!! if god exist and has a language he speaks finnish!! i love finnish language!!
Tää jylhä kauneus ja ääretön yksinäisyys
Lapsuuteni metsän, taivaan
Kaikuu se haikeus halki tän matkan
Aamun tullen yö tarinansa kertoo
Jylhä on kauneus ja ääretön yksinäisyyteni
Sitä henkeensä halajaa
Kehtoni hauta, hautani paikka
Erämaan viimeinen on
Minne katosivat muut
Suon noidat, neidontornit
Ja varjoissa havisevat puut
Kielon istutin ikihankeen
Ja hiljaisuuden tultua luotin tulevaan
Truly this is the voice of a godess.😘👌
I love this song so much, I have no idea
how much times I listened to it.😁🎶
Stay Awesome. 😎👍
1:21 my favourite part. I love the double voice.
Nukkuu korpi, ja nyt, aatoksissain minä matkaa teen
Yli metsien, uinuvan veen
Kuutar taivaan yön valaisee
Maalaa maiseman, pohjoisen siimeksen
Unta onko tää,
Vai kuolema jossa palata sinne saan missä
hiillos jo luovuttaa lumen alla
Kun astun maailmaan, erämaan aikaan
Ensilumi satoi kahdesti
Maalasi sieluni taulun
Pari kertaa piti sulatella, mutta niin useimmiten löydän ne suosikkikipaleet. Ensikuulemalta ei uppoo, mutta syystä X pakko palata ja kuunnella uudelleen... ja sitten kolahtaa :)
I feel ashamed. I didn;t know this song existed until just now. I knew about Last of the Wilds, but not this,.. HOW CAN I CALL MYSELF A NIGHTWISH FAN
same here
D:
To be fair with all of you this version is sort of a hidden gem
You are not alone, just i find it too.
And i love it ❤️ at once.

Kiitos. Awesome song. Greetings from Poland. Nightwish for ever ! ! ( sorry, my english is not good )

Jay Shields That, AND he's polite. We need more people like him.
ta666ak666 polish people are pretty nice in general :P
Witam, witam :D Lubię Nightwish i Indicę

because Anette isn't finnish and they wanted this song singed in finnish, that's why they chose Jonsu, a native speaker and I think she did a pretty good job singing this song :D I love it.
I love this song... I'd never heard it with the lyrics before, I wish I spoke Finnish.

A magical version of a wonderful song. Wish the single was released in germany.

especially love the bit at 2.57 - it is so gentle and wistful!
Yes, I live in Finland. Here goes, buddy:
Last Of The Wilds
The wilderness sleeps, and now in my thoughts I travel
Above the forests, the sleeping water
Lady Moon lights the night of the sky

I LOVE JONSU 💚💚💚!!!!!!!!!!!
She is singer of Indica. Indica is one girlband from Finland and they play pop/rock.
I like the song much better as instrumental, but I also like the words. I think the best combination for me is when I listen to the instrumental and go through the words in my head, so that I don't have her voice in my head.
Finnish is a beautiful language :)
Somehow they took this already fantastic song and made it better.
It's on the Erämaan Viimeinen single they released in Finland.
Обожаю эту песню с детства и слушаю все эти годы
@DykaAmazonka Erm - sorry to correct you, but I'm afriad she isn't - on the album the fiddle player on Last of the Wilds is creditted as "Nollaig Casey" - the only finnish person playing in this song (aside from Nightwish of course) is "Senni Eskelinen" who plays the electric kantele

i hope my neighbours like this song cause they listen to this all day =)
Howling Fjord , Grizzly Hills and Nightwish = Erämaan Viimeinen!!! Thumb up if agree!!!!
i'm the only one who likes this song ? with the voice & everything....
Band that I met by chance in 2013 and started to like the genre Symphonic Metal
I'M FROM BRAZIL AND I REALLY LIKED NIGHTWSH
Where did the others disappear
The witches of marsh, maidens' towers
And the trees rattling in shade
I planted a Lily of the Valley in the eternal snow
And when the silence came I trusted in the forthcoming
The virgin snow came twice
Painted my soul's picture

i thought its name was Last of the Wilds!!?? And i have only head the instrumental till now. I like this one better . Awesome song!
well i have learned some finnish only becouse of this song. It is just as good as u think it is. Now i know all finnish words, that are used on this song:D Thanks Nightwish.
hab die sängerin von indica vor 2 tagen in unserem hotel bedient. die ist voll lieb sag ich euch!!!!!
Jonsu, lead singer of the Finnish band Indica. :) If you like her you should check Indica out!
i wish they put this on the album in the first disk and put last of the wilds in the second disk. this song is awesome
no words!!!! simple the best!!!!
Finnish does have vowel harmony and it applies to individual words. Erämaa is a combination word, combining erä and maa, thus the vowel harmony exists for erä and maa separately.
lyrics are beautiful... and the finnish sounding is amazing
I don't know how A human being can dislike this song :/,
Nice voice.
(The rest)
This rugged beauty and infinite loneliness
Of my childhood's forest, sky
That wistfulness echoes along this journey
Upon dawn the nights tells its story
Rugged is beauty and infinite my loneliness
It's longed for spirit by
Tomb of my cradle, place of my tomb
Last of the wilds is
Where got lost the others
Swamp's witches, maiden's towers
And the trees wuthering in the shadows
A lily-of-the-valley I planted in the ever-snow
And upon silence I trusted in future
it's Jonsu from Indica if you didn't find it yet
jonsu has a beauty voice
Jonsu and Nightwish? I just died
This song is awsome!
.... and my headace is going away! YES!!!!!
And during the snowy hard frost, Jonssu rocks through the winter 2024 January
I find it funny everyone was so quick to correct you but no one was willing to defend Jonsu. I actually like her singing.
WoW, this is a great version :)
yes and not.
This is a special version of last of the wild.
Last of the wild is a song without a singer, because Tarja Turunen leave Nightwish.
Nightwish create a song with Jonsu and played it just in finnland....
I hope you understand it, because my english is very bad^^

I hope that they do a song in Swedish someday. That would be so awesome.
Amo esta canción!
@JoviAero Jonsu IS a pop singer. Just throwing that out there. ;)
she is the singer of INDICA a pop/rock band of Finland like Nightwish
you have to listen this songs :
Pida Kadesta
Vuorien taa
I thought it was released as a single too...? Though I have no idea if you can find it anywhere...
@Gesichtgulasch ich hab keine ahnung von der zeitschrift, aber auf wikipedia steht, dass es des ding auch in england un so gibt...
It's also on the Platinum edition of Dark Passion Play.
richtig toller song
hey^^ its Last of the WIlds from Nightwish and the voice is from Jonsu ^^..and...my English isn't much better
greetings :-)
J'aime beaucoup Indica et Nightwish. La voix de Jonsu peut paraître assez spéciale mais écouter, par exemple, Eerie Eden, elle fait de magnifiques vocalises vers la fin! ^^
OOOOHHHHH what is that ? This is song from their last album Darka Passion Play called Las of the wilds... and here is somebody singing... where did you got it...
Enchanting!
I have no idea if this question has been asked before, and pardon me - should that be the case, but is there any translation avaiable of this song? If there is one thing I LOVE about Nightwish it is their lyrics... And I personally like Aneatte the most. *Cough* Just sharing opinion.
I'm going to be honest. I'm not really fond of finnish (I'm swedish if that does matter to some people) but damn. This is awesome!
I can't decide whether or not I like this song more than The Last of the Wilds. It's hard to compare a beautiful instrumental song and an interesting song that takes a lot of its charm from the fact that it's in Finnish.
@peepsikk1 It means something like "awe-inspiring" or "awesome", and is typically used when referring to natural formations, landscapes, and so on.
I'm REALLY glad they stuck with Last of the Wilds for the album.
Now listen guys ... nobody cares if you think her voice is ugly, if you feel better bout yourselves saying it ... then be my guest. Otherwise I don't see the point.
There are some of us who like her tone of voice (tastes differ, go figure), apperently so did the authors, since they released the single. If you don't like it, don't listen to it. It's that simple. And everybody will be happier.
I always play this song first and then follow it up with Pida Kadesta by Indica. :)
I like it, personally. It's not as lyrical and such as Kuolema Tekee Taiteilijan, but it kind of shows another aspect to the Finnish language. It's still a cool song.
I say, chaps and chapesses, is this available on a CD? I recognise the tune from DPP of course, but I don't recall seeing this anywhere.
LOVE Nightwish and LOVE Jonsu of Indica ! She is the girl of my life (actually with Anette, sure...)
love this song. i think Jonsu's voice helps with the magic of this song and adds to the light playfulness of the melody. if it were a darker song, Tarja would be great, or if it were more of a power song Anette would be great, but i just don't think either of them would work in this song. but that's just my opinion.
How can i get this Song? Play Store doesn't have it, iTunes doesn't have it and Spotify doesn't have it too :(
Aaron Kopp Simply grab it from YT and convert it into mp3 :D.. screw oniline stores!
for Spotify it is only available on Finland I guess
Not necessarily. This song makes heavy use of Uilleann Pipes, an ethnically Irish instrument. Not to mention that pipes of any type are rarely used outside of Irish/Scottish folk.
