I think sometimes we don't truly appreciate a work of art until someone takes us through it and gives us some background on the artist and the piece itself. This piece got more beautiful the more I learned.

Fabulous piece. The ability to look at it even more closely that we could in person was an extra treat. The comments of the presenter were very much appreciated.

Stunning piece! I wish she would have mentioned how thick the slap of marble is.

Depth: 5.3cm is what the v&a website gives

My goodness that thing is beautiful. It almost appeared to move as the light danced across its peaks and valleys

Wonderful piece - creative, innovative and masterful! It seems beyond the usual scope of the V & A.
It would be interesting to know how it came into their collection. ?

How did this panel leave Florence? How did the museum acquire it?

With all that incredible detail put into that piece, there is no way it was supposed to be deeper than it is. Meaning that it is not an unfinished carving. That frame it is mounted in is far too busy and colorful for the art. It is distracting instead of complimentary.

Looks like one of Shaun Greenhalgh's works.

But the frame is such an awful mismatch

I suspect the intention was to set the pale marble apart from the pale wall, but I think it kind of drowns out the artwork. (I work in custom framing and I have to say, I'm not sure I would have chosen that substantial a frame myself.)
