    Honestly, I’m with you on the EVO Ninjago sets. Lego needs to start encouraging alternative/“wrong” ways to build sets again and this is an excellent start to that idea. Also, they’re the most Ninjago that Ninjago’s been since 2019. No copying past LEGO themes; just good old jumping up, kicking back, whipping around and spinning with mechs, dragons and snakes.

    I would love to see Lego make a real attempt at bringing out lines that compliment each other. Wouldn't it be great to do that with the "boy" and "girl" lines simultaneously? Like an updated version of the Castle/Ogre sets and at the same time a reboot of the Elves/Dragons?

    • @ChemistGeometric
      @ChemistGeometric 2 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      It would be even better if they didn't have super obvious gender bias; there's just two thematically compatible waves. One just happens to use more pastel colors and gentle curves, and the other having a darker pallet and bolder features. I wouldn't even say they need to have moral lines, either; let some of the bright sets be bad guys, and let some of the dark sets be good guys.

    Glad to see we have the same interpretation of the Jungle Dragon! I definitely see it's wings as vestigial, like it's halfway through the process of adapting to it's environment, especially with all four of its legs being equally beefy.

    • @bradleydevron

      Actually it does have forelimbs (a wyvern has 4 limbs and a dragon typically has 6 as far as modern interpretations go), though modifying it into a Rathalos wouldn't be impossible (though I think a brick-built one is what would be done in the modern day)

    The best part of Lego dragons is that one of the dragons where actually wyverns and some of them are drakes! Wyverns are sub dragons with only wings on they're arms! And drakes are wingless dragons. It's a common fact.

    • @cassidyjones2730
      @cassidyjones2730 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      This is more of a new attempt to classify everything into little boxes in our modern, post-scientific, post-dnd world. The myths and artwork leading up to our idea of the quintessential European dragon did not care as much. Dragons had wings, wings and arms, sometimes neither. They had dog heads, horse ears, lion feet. Modern works of fiction can have fun ordering dragons into specific species and categories, but you can’t really say it’s a “fact” that dragons have four legs and wyverns have two and drakes have no wings. These have all been fairly interchangeable labels for a vast array of wild dragon designs from an age where precise classifications weren’t important.
      …not to mention the general inapplicability of these concepts to dragons from different cultures.

    • @RujiTheRockBoi
      @RujiTheRockBoi 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@cassidyjones2730 True. I just wish those idiot movie producers stop using the wyvern designs. IT'S NOT DRAGON ACCURATE DAMN IT! They want it to make it more bird like. Dragons don't deserve to look more bird! They needed to have four legs while having wings!

    I love the classic 90s Castle dragons! But like most proprietary Lego animals, in hindsight I do believe brick-built critters with perhaps a few small parts specifically molded for heads or tails or claws or whatever (like the newer dragon builds out of Ninjago, Elves, Creator, etc. and the animals in general from Minecraft). I feel this approach using more versatile Lego pieces is better for Lego as a whole.

    As soon as I saw the video pop up I was hoping you'd use Spyro music, and you didn't disappoint. Honestly the first thing I think of when I hear the word "dragon".
    Though I absolutely see the merit in brick built dragons and would overall consider them superior, I have a soft spot for the older dragons with the specific molds. They're like minifigs in a way, having specific pieces built for the species. I only had the classic dragon in black, and I kinda wish I had managed to get the Golden Dragon. Still, I've got a classic T-Rex and Crocodile, so I could mix and match some of the pieces to change the colours up a bit. Just a shame they didn't make it in more colours.

    Thanks for sharing Nick. You’re doing the LEGO gods’ work! It would be kind of cool to see an animated kids show with these different dragon evolutions interacting and living together on an island maybe. And I hope Lego continues to put alternative instructions either on the back of the box or in the instructions to encourage creativity!

    The Hero Factory Dragon looked pretty cool. It was entirely made of Bionicle pieces

    Great Video!
    With all those great Dragons Ninjago is giving us, its easy to imagine your own world populated by them. Kinda like early Bionicle, a specific biom for each dragon kind.

      Exactly! Think Primal Rage but with dragons.

      Castle + Dragons = Dragons Kingdom. A theme with updated medieval sets like townhouses, forts, towers and the like with small, medium, and large brick built/CCBS/Technic hybrid dragons.

      I didn't "forget" them. I chose to leave them out.

      I know, I just wanted to one day see and episode based on the Lego video games by themselves one day

      @@alexgeorge501 No, I mean... way back when, before Lego Rewind began, I made a similarly-constructed "Lego Games" video, back when I still reviewed videogames.

    Do you ever wish all dragons never had the same species names. like you wanna call a winged arm a wyvern and a wingless dragon called a drake?

    The next set of Ninjago Core set upcoming are going to be with 3 cool dragons included. The water dragon is simple, but very effective, complete with nifty shaping, the earth draogon is nice and bulky (to the point that the tiny wings look like they're not meant for flying with it's bulk) plus new pieces for the upper jaw and horns, and the Ice Dragon Creature not only is a nice, big dragon, but it's extra unique for having 6 legs and an alt-build that's like a humanoid, wingless dragon. Pretty cool stuff.
