    What a good boy! I got just about that much maybe a little bit more out of my long haired Scotch Collie. Your dog is beautiful. He has a facial structure and mostly an expression so much like my dog Titus.

    Really love these types of rake combs! I always use one like that first, then use the slicker brush as a "finisher" to smooth out everything.
    So many people talk about the FURminator being the best, but I've always been a little wary of using it for the reasons you brought up (and also because, as I've heard, brushing with it too hard can damage the fur by cutting it!)
    Loved getting your input on this. Thank you! :)

    • @ranchothedog
      @ranchothedog  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You're so right about the Furminator. It's also pretty sharp. When I tried it on my skin, it scratched me much more than all the other brushes. Glad to hear you and I have similar methods :)

    We have very similar set of brushes and combs for our Belgian. However, we ended up using Pet Teezer De-shedding brush, the only one I don't get bitten, the only one my dog "tolerates" somewhat. It takes a bit longer when the comb you've got but it certainly worth it in our case. And it is really fast when it is not a shedding season. We also tried Furminator in a past but I realised it sort of cuts undercoat out (even it said for double coated dogs) and as we wen't through, I started noticing, it shaved my dogs undercoat in patches. So many things are harmful to dogs, like their food and accessories, and poor animals can't tell it.

    • @ranchothedog

      I’ll check put Pet Teezer too:) Thanks for the tip 🤗

    Hi :) I've been watching your videos for a while and the content is amazing! I am considering that I want a Belgian shepherd in the future. I have some experience with dogs but not with puppies. I am interested in how you made Rancho get used to brushing, bathing, clipping the nails and other important things like these, and how you socialized him. He is beautiful and very kind and you are such a responsible dog owner which melts my heart

    • @ranchothedog
      @ranchothedog  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks so much for sharing that ❤ Brushing and bathing was super easy, but nail clipping was hard work. I'm planning to make a video about it too. I just wish there was more time, hehe 😀

    Funny I just came across this video 😂 thanks for sharing this as a matter of I have a female English Labrador retriever and a male white fluffy Alaskan Samoyed and they both shed like crazy especially during the spring and fall months but I guess it’s kinda their way of putting their winter clothing right. Rancho is a very beautiful dog I’ve always loved Belgian Shepherds, German Shepherds, Rough Collies, Akitas, and Pomeranians well all dogs in general lol.

    I always hated brushing my Tervueren and Groenendael Belgians. The reason that i didn't like it is because the dogs didn't like it and i even suspect that it was more painful to them, then they let on. Then someone gave me the tip to use this undercoat rake. Since then i always loved brushing the dogs and so did the dogs.
    By the way: The fur is very much loved by birds. They make nests out of it.

    Hello! I'm a new viewer and will be getting my Tervuren in February. Your channel has been so helpful as there isn't a lot of information on Belgian Shepherds out there! Can I ask when Rancho's shedding season is?

    • @ranchothedog
      @ranchothedog  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, that sound great 💕 The heaviest shedding happens in spring, and then in autumn/early winter he sheds his summer coat.

    I have a Sheltie (very similar coat) but much smaller dog (12 pounds). If I brush her 20 minutes per week her shedding in the house and car is almost non existen. During shedding season it's about 10 minutes a day. I am considering a Belgian Shepherd or Sheepdog. How much time would you spend brushing Rancho per week to keep his shedding at a minimum?

      @Uncle_Yukon 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That firminator? I hate the looks of it, WAY too short of pins for a long coated dog, unless all you want is to lightly remove short lose hair from the surface of the coat.

    • @ranchothedog

    We have a lot of difficulty finding a groomer that knows how to groom our long haired GSD. They either shave out the mats, cut too much off, or our baby returns with way more mats than they left with in places they never have mats. What products do you like to soften and loosen mats & what tools to comb out the mats? Yes, she also dislikes being brushed especially at the rear.

      @@ranchothedog Hey yes Rancho you is hairy, in Belgium rain and cold, you have a beautiful fur to protect you, it the sheepdogs sleep outside summer as winter in a niche yes it was to laugh the shave with an electric razor, you have a mane like a lion, with the global warming dogs suffer from the heat , the Bouvier d'Ardenne is one of the victims, From farmers to shaved the bouviers of Ardenne, the dog was finally dening, this idea was not good, the dogs caught sunburns, the farmers were forced to put sunscreen 3 times a day, you know that all dogs lose their hair, certainly the long hair is more visible than the short hair.
