  • From the day Victoria Wood died, Wednesday 20 April 2016.
    Actress Anne Reid joined Jon Snow in the studio to pay tribute to Victoria. Also featured is a tribute from Rhona Cameron via video link. I thought Anne's memories were extremely moving and you can see how upset she was.
    Still can't believe Victoria has gone, had so much more to give.

    If it wasn't for TH-cam I would have never discovered Dinnerladies, such an exceptional series. Anne Reid, Celia Imrie, Julie Walters, exceptional actors in their own right, to which Victoria Wood would bring out their talents. Thank goodness for TH-cam, Victoria will always be preserved.

    Inept interviewing aside, the fact that VW's untimely death sparked such a national sigh of despair is testament to just what a truly gifted woman she was. It's coming up to 4 years since this beautiful lady left us but folk still refer to it as if it was just yesterday. There likely will never be another in the same league as she.

    I just discovered Dinner Ladies and fell into a full on binge of all episodes i could find... now on to her stand ups and enthralled by this incredible talent and woman. And, just now, have learned that she is gone. So saddened!

      I too just came upon this remarkable talented woman. This awesome series "Dinerladies" somehow I never knew existed. As an American, and as I worked in London for a year several years ago, I've always totally enjoyed British comedies e. g. Are you being served, Keeping up appearances, Faulty towers, etc.
      I'm thankful finding the 2 seasons of Dinerladies, still as many fans wishing there were more. Victoria Woods left us far too early, but we cherish her talents allowed us! RIP Ms Woods we miss you!

      Try "Victoria Wood As Seen On TV" her series from the 1980s. BBC Also "Wood and Walters" from even earlier. Also her "AN Evening with.." in front of celebrity audience. All wonderful. Her country loved her.

    It's very easy to sneer at Victoria Wood's brand of comedy - it's observational, familiar, cosy and conventional, but in the right hands it can be extremely funny. And she had the right hands, no doubt about that. She drew on iconic comediennes of the past, such as Hilda Baker, Peggy Mount, Joan Miller etc and gave their type of material her own special twist. Nothing radical or challenging, that wasn't her style, she just 'Woodified' it. Occasionally she would plant an outrageous double-entendre and then give it time to fully ripen as the audience fell about. Dinnerladies is IMO probably the best thing she ever did, and she did some mighty fine stuff. A clever and precise writer and performer, she would not settle for anything second best.

    We still feel her loss. I hope she understood just how loved and admired she was by her audience. There’s a huge gap in the cultural fabric, and I can’t imagine who or when it will be filled. RIP Victoria, truly a giant.

    And she didn't need to drop swear words all over the place. Her characters were 3 dimensional and "they" came up with the comedy. Such a talented woman

    • @MisterBuffers
      @MisterBuffers 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      What is it with some people’s obsession with swear words? It was a cosy comedy. Swearing would’ve ruined it. There are plenty of shows that have swearing and it fits in perfectly with the nature of the show.

    Housewife, 49. Awesome. So full, one can watch it over and over and still spot new elements. Once saw her at London Palladium probably around late 80s, early 90s, a one woman show. Humour without any mentioning of swear words, genitalia or anything that comes out of our bodies. (Those topics are worn thin). Before she appeared on the stage that evening, from the wings, she had us laughing out loud.

    • @MisterBuffers
      @MisterBuffers 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Those topics aren’t worn thin, they’re just not fit for some style of shows. Swearing and crude comments fit in with other shows that may not be to your taste.

  • @MyTopC

    Victorias work was never political, never trying to push any social or popular agenda unlike most of the so called comics today who can't hold a cancle to her comedy because here comedy was based on the observation of people, never nasty of cruel just funny. Think about all those comics who have left us and we still love to watch old clips of them they were never political never nasty just funny.

      Since I worked in restaurant kitchens I get it; the humour, the machines, everything. And I am in the US, so while different, it is similar.
      It is the combination of her writing and the talent of the cast, the ensemble of actors, that Made Dinnerladies not only a comedy, but most importantly, a show that was worth watching, told with humour.
      From the inf I have gathered, VW did not want to do a second series, but the first was so popular that she reluctantly came back for season 2. Some feel somewhat letdown by the second series, she gave it a final conclusion, she was onto her next project, her next topic.
