wouldn't you say it's frivolous to notate on 12 staves? Let's assume that the maximum number of voices on a stave is 2, I know there is some exceptions like mereaux 60, but stay with me. People, usually have 10 fingers, so even if each finger was playing a different voice, which would be highly unusual, then the maximum number of meaningful staves would be 5. So why is Hoban notating is 12 staves here?
I am not sure the specific purpose of notating them on 12 staves but each staves is represented as each finger as you know and Hoban deliberately wanted to describe and design physical demands extensively utilizing confusing and awkward fingerwork.
