One of my Favorite bands I have seen them live 4 times and loved every second of every concert! Being a drummer this is my most influential band for me since the first moment I heard them!
Not only is JP one of the best guitar players on the planet, but like you said he nails his tones. Caught them on this tour about 1.5 months before covid hit. They should be releasing a new album sometime in the fall I think so hopefully I can catch them live again next year.
Absolutely! His tone is really thick like each string is wrapped together with 3 or 4 strings underneath all playing in unison. You barely even hear the picking either, it’s this warm buttery flowing of notes. His signature guitar is an important factor but I’d love to see his rack settings and pedal positions. It’s a secret sauce that I’ve seen bits and pieces of revealed in videos. Last but not least you have the man himself and his ability to evoke those emotional responses in his playing
Hearing this song when the album first came out literally brought tears of joy to my eyes.. This song is beautiful and captures all the essence of Dream Theater in one song!! Great reaction!!

I have been checking out this band for a while. As much as I admire their abilities, this is the first song I've really liked. I definitively like Mangini's style/sound/tuning better than what I have heard from Portnoy''s. Just my own personal preference.
As a person who works bar security, the way he said “ Oh hell yeah “ made me want to start swapping stories cause them sounded like some good memories 😂
Appreciate this band . Historical . When they were founded they were inspired to Rush and Iron Maiden . Mike Portnoy you know was the original drummer . Mike Mangini is the drummer nowdayZ . They have a pretty own style !

Interesting note on James' voice - many early on in the DT days in the early 90s found his voice to be the ONLY thing they didn't like about the band. Never made sense to me either but there you have it. :)
It is shame that he busted his vocal chords back in the day with the foo poisoning incident because his voice used to be insanely powerful. I still like his voice though but he struggles more nowadays. Check out the Dream Theater Live at the Marquee CD performance of "The Killing Hand" for insane live vocals

Huge DT fan and JP fan, but he always botches the fast part of this solo live. they def corrected it for the blu ray version. every video on youtube of that solo live he messes that part up.. cmon JP!
One can only listen in awe, mouth open and drooling when JP wrenches emotion out of the beatiful guitar.
His ablity to emote with his choice of notes just wrenches the heart strings. Absolutely masterful.
Dream Theater - Lost Not Forgotten (Live Luna Park) will blow your mind away. I guarantee.
