FAQ (Updated 2020)
Q: How many tissue paper sheets do I need?
A: When buying supplies, purchase 32 total sheets of tissue paper, which makes 2 pom poms. 16 sheets per pom pom.
Q: How many toilet paper rolls do I need?
A: Two empty toilet paper rolls for the pair.
Q: Can I use more than 16 sheets?
A: Absolutely. The more sheets you use the more full the pom poms will be.
Q: Can I use fewer than 16 sheets?
A: Yes, but the pom poms will be less fluffy and more sparse.
Q: Can I use different colors?
A: YES! That's the beauty of it! You can use one, two, three or more colors.
Q: Can I use other material other than tissue paper?
A: YES!!! You can use whatever material you like. The sky is the limit! The steps of the tutorial will yield the same general result. However, I cannot guarantee the finished result (how they look, handle, or last) of pom poms made with a different material (such as plastic table cloths, paper, plastic trash bags, foil paper, etc) simply because I haven't made pom poms using those materials.

I just finished making one, gonna make the other tomorrow bc it’s reaaally time consuming. But for whoever is gonna make this, just know that it’s a very trust the process kind of thing. When I started cutting the paper, the scissors weren’t super sharp so the cuts were ragged and it was looking terrible, I really wanted to give up. But after all the fluffing, it looks AMAZING. All the “ugly” details of the cuts don’t even show, it looks hella cute. So if you’re doing this, don’t give up and trust the process cause it really works out in the end. And the result is awesome, I totally recommend it.
I couldn’t have said it better myself. I’m so glad you pushed through and finished because - while fluffing out the tassels does take time - the end result will make you feeling like a crafting queen! Way to go girl!

Actual cheerleader pom-poms have the handle in the middle. I was a cheerleader in Elementary school.

My 3 yr old wanted rainbow pom poms for his brothers basketball games. I started making them and knew I wanted the baton style, but got stumped. Lo and behold found your video and it was perfect. I love this!! My cousin lost her mom(my aunt) and she is 10. She has been working so hard to make the cheerleading team and then she gets Covid, so I just got word from her teacher that she made the team but she of course will be out for another week due to Covid. You’re welcome! I recommend using plastic tablecloths so all your hard work lasts longer. I have a video for that if you’re concerned with how to work with the material. I hope it helps. They are fun - if not a little time consuming to make.

The ones I got are rectangle and I did 3 colours so went 18 but when done folding it’s rectangle still. Should I trim them to squares or if I leave them as rectangle will it work but just be longer and bigger ?? If not I’ll just trim to squares

Absolutely. It just might have a slightly different looking/feeling texture based on the material you use.

Hey there. I’m not sure what you mean by “the paper”? But, you can use whatever material you want and make Pom poms in this style by following this tutorial. My caveat is that I’m not sure how the medium you chose will behave overall or what special preparation you will need to work with the medium you choose. Good luck liebchen.

Well I'm not really a lady, but I always wondered how Sports Pom Poms were Made, Now about the Colors Yeah use the Color of your School, or your Favorite Team The Sea Hawks are Green and Blue, Megan is Using My Dads School Colors, And If you Really want Red and White or Red and Green for Christmas, Or any Holiday Color you want. Have Fun. Yes Bring it On, But I'm A Cheerleader, or Any film with Cheerleaders would be good when makin' Pom Poms.

Says the same as the pros but I know good and well that NFL/NBA cheerleaders re-use their pompoms aren’t made of paper. Someone chime in with the proper material for pro pompoms.
