Now i am over 40 and beginn to appreciate Vintage Things. Nowadays i try to search/buy my Old things together which i loved these Days. I love to see Elliot in this Young Age is able to see the Beauty in Vinage things. Greetz from Germany.
Hello Eliot I would just like to say thanks for inspiring me to start fixing stuff I just fixed a Mario bros game and watch the Dual screen one and I decided to record it and up lode it to my Chanel 😀
Freaky cool bike! I just picked up a 70's Panasonic transistor radio with a hint of rusted metal, I'll have to try that technique! That bike will turn out great.
Bro, that’s one of the best decision you made! That Raleigh is in prestene condition! I got the superbe 1960’s too. And man it’s in best condition too will all the original parts! These bikes are best in the city. Actually, I got two 1960’s Raleighs. A green Tourist deluxe and a brown superbe! This bikes are underated and unpreciated for most people! Only few people knows the rich history of this bike! Besides it’s the bike that was meant built to last a lifetime!
I can’t believe you were able to ride it so quick! I picked up an old Ross bike from a neighbor that was giving it away, two months later I’m still waiting for my thumb shifters and rear derailleur to come in from eBay! Still busting my ass on that bike 😂. Also wish we had cool thrift/antique stores like that in louisiana. Everything down here either got blown away from the storm or is filled with crap. Anyways awesome find and awesome video!
Keep the light and battery holder. They are part of the bike and should stay with it. I think it looks more interesting with the battery holder on it, anyway. This is a Superbe. It has the green paint and tell-tale fork lock on it, with 26" wheels, and that beautiful chain guard. The bag is a standard issue bag that came with these bikes and should also be kept. If you go to sell it someday, a true collector will want these things. This model was the top of the line Raleigh. The best thing about Raleigh's is they made so many of them, they are a bargain, but they are an extremely well-made machine. I live in the U.S.A. and they are reasonable in price here too. I have a 49 and 52 with Rod brakes and a 71 DL-1 with rod brakes and 28" wheels, called the tourist. I am hoping to find a bike like yours. The American equivalent of these bikes is Schwinn, also built to last forever. If you want a truly non-abrasive way to remove rust without damaging paint or removing chrome, a 50/50 mix of plain old white vinegar and water, let soak for several days. The rust just falls off, even in the cracks. Every bit of it. Then, wash with soap and water and wax it. 0000 steel wool, the finest grade, also works great in giving chrome a high luster without damaging the surface.
The bike is in good usable nick with a nice bit of age patina ,It is made of quality steel & better & stronger than modern bikes that can’t even take a 17 stone man .,These bikes would be worth a mint if today’s cyclist had the sense to realise how well these bikes were made .I doubt if we see many of today’s crocks around in a few years time .If I had the space I would buy loads of them & convert some to E. bikes better than the over priced flimsy rubbish new on sale now ..
My grandpa bought me this bike a few days ago at a flea market for 110 euros. That's an insane price for a bike like this. Mine is missing the pump and its black but it has the brooks leather seat and he and I are going to be repairing it this week. He probably did some work himself. And I did check the price of the bike on eBay and I saw someone selling it close to a 1000 dollars so idk if they are worth much but they are gorgeous.
I bought a 1970s era Ladies Raleigh Colt. 2 step thru down tubes are perfect for a lithium battery. Still undecided re: mid drive pedal assist or eliminate the Sturmey Archer 3speed with a 1000watt hub motor laced up to aluminum wheels. The mid-drive leaves room for fitness. Co$t$ much more tho. Made in Nottingham England and somehow was rarely ridden. Not mint but damn close. Chrome tips on the fenders, all factory decals and riveted steel Raleigh logo (made in Nottingham England) I think of a English woman putting the 1st 100 miles on it.Put some quality Continental rubber to deal with the extra oomph from electric and she will stand out.A woman out there will want this build guaranteed..My current Raleigh was made in China and the Raleigh emblem is glued on and made of not metal.Oh well
Ad so it begins. 30yrs later you'll have two garages filled with old stuff and the guys from the U. S. show American Pickers will fly over just to clean you out
Got twenty-two vintage British bikes, no longer a passion,,,, it's a sickness!!! These vintage bikes fetch top dollar now and are growing more valuable as the years go by. You can find the manufacture date stamped on the rear hub right next to the sturmey archer logo. 07 58 is July 1958. There is also websites to research the frame serial number. Don't trash anything from your bike, only original once but, if you must replace bits, eBay is a good place for correct parts.
Sweet i have a bike loke like that fore free it just olmost kleed up and every thing is update to now i just was Looking for a sample to see if i forgot somting
People here want to ride those kind of bicycles on a daily basis. I know that they are cool looking bicycles, but when these people "eat" them here they complain about me not being able to give them new spare parts with warranty. And that is why I don't allow them in my bicycle service/shop.

I think at this point we should just make a kickstarter to invent a time machine so we can send Elliot back to 1970 where he belongs :)
I was born in 1966 so the 70's i grow up in...i'm going back with him Nick...
more like mid 90's, where his gameboys are still relevent
@@shept.7736 How DARE you!!? 😉
Hello Eliot I would just like to say thanks for inspiring me to start fixing stuff I just fixed a Mario bros game and watch the Dual screen one and I decided to record it and up lode it to my Chanel 😀
I'm your age and I have the same fascination for old stuff that I should not have a connection to because I wasn't alive back then lmao
That green beautiful car in the background makes a good pair on that green beautiful bike
Freaky cool bike! I just picked up a 70's Panasonic transistor radio with a hint of rusted metal, I'll have to try that technique! That bike will turn out great.
You should seriously think about doing a refurb on some bicycles. I would definitely be keen on watching. Cool find.
I'm 54 and love anything retro See my channel but seeing Elliot at his young tender age getting excited with old stuff is awesome ....
I am always jealous of your handheld collection and now I am also jealous of your vehicles lol
Didn't know you can take rust off chrome like that! Nice find.
DOPE.
I don't have a vintage bike but I do have an old one I need to maintain.
Brilliant idea, the tinfoil trick! Other attempts only work half when there's too much rust, so will give it a try

That saddle tho! An absolute beauty
Awesome find bro. When I’m next over I’m keen to explore that Antiques place.
Nice bro, love how light they are too, I have a 1988 Raleigh Technium
Finally a change from the peugeot

That is a great bike. Oh, and I think the hand choppy thing is probably a magic trick.
i love antique shops, so much cool stuff!
That is a splendid bicycle ! Nice work mate !
That bike would look good with an old cyclemaster hub engine on it.
keep the light
Do a video on rebuilding the generator please
I love this channel so much!!!!!
a very nice bike, indeed! 😉 excellent find!
Get some North Road bars on there to complete the look. Loving the British green
I love this type of video
Sheldon Brown had a Raleigh Dl1 with the combined SA hub and Dynohub, he said patching a flat on the rear tire was a half day project.
I use Brillo pads to clean off the rust and seems to work great.

There should be a month and year on the DynoHub so that you can date it. It's lovely.
The briefcase is amazing
Nice Classic 👍

What a beauty
You can remove the pitting using a brass wire brush by hand - you won't scratch the chrome.
Never thought I'd hear elliot drop the f bomber, let alone twice in one video
I think this is one of the top model Raleigh superbs. I have a 1953 Raleigh sport that is similar but not quite as special as this
Removing the FSU (The battery tube) was a mistake. They're very useful and getting rare as hell.
Wow, your channels really do it for me, you run through everything I’m into and more. Keep it up!
I have a green Schwinn Varsity from the 80s, and it literally has the same seat. Got it for 2 dollars at my town's police bike auction.

Geez that stuff is old!
The place at the beginning of the video looks just like the upstairs room in my house: full of things we don't use
Floyd, maiden, new bike. OMG 🥰
Awesome🤩🤩🤩
Nice. Ride safe.
I know this has nothing to do with the video. But I saw you on SVG gaming news a week ago and got super proud for you :)
if you do not protect with rust-converter the pitted spots and put some protective layer (wax or else) it will rust again in no time.
Yes! I restore old Raleigh Strikas (my fave childhood bike!)
You are Lucky Guy...Getting Raeligh..its a Rare series and I wan to 😊 How much Price you buying ...???
Intresting
Hi Elliot, can you share the name of this treasure trove shop in Jersey, it's contents looks amazing. Could spend hours musing around.
I had a Raleigh Twenty was a good time.
I think the saddle alone is worth 60 👌
Impressive sympathetic restore. Is that a Jensen Interceptor in the background as well? 😃
They just don’t make bicycles as sexy as they used to. Awesome bike.
They very much do, you just need to look a bit harder....and they have the bonus of having brakes that actually work now.
I'm pretty sure that Antique store might have your millions for sale in it (especially given the locale).
Do we need to organise a intervention? He's getting dangerously close to hipster territory here.
Will the rust return after you've cleaned it off using your trick as it hasn't been treated?
Yes, this just removes the rust. With the chrome gone in the spots where the rust was, it would rust again.
I have the exact same one except I think it's a different year there's like two minor differences
Are u an old soul in a young body? 😄 I love all of ur vids btw!
You could get the chrome pieces rechromed.
It'd be cheaper to just buy non-rusty bits to replace them with.
do you still have the original dynamo and light set? I am looking for one to restore
Oh wow I didn't know about the tinfoil trick, that's awesome! I'm gonna try it on my gf's bike that looks disgusting
Ad so it begins. 30yrs later you'll have two garages filled with old stuff and the guys from the U. S. show American Pickers will fly over just to clean you out

Make a Gameboy with 4 Buttons as a dpad
oil it to slow down the rusting
What a great technique! But what made you realize that worked? haha
It's a well known way to deal with rust.
