This episode was so boring. 😞 There were no action scenes or dragons fighting. 😢 I felt so bored.
Vhagar is a seasoned war dragon and a lot of people forget that. Visenya was her rider for 50 something years and they were a ruthless duo. They say that Laena was her only ‘peaceful’ rider and then Aemond comes along and basically brings out those old tendencies and tactics from when she was in her prime. It’s really sad to think about because I don’t think any of the dragons want to fight, but their bond with their rider trumps anything else.
Not too sure about the whole "dragons don't want to fight". They aren't vegetarians and lizards are often particularly brutal animals. Crocs will tear each other apart if they have to or eat the smaller ones.
Take Cannibal, for example, a wild dragon that has absolutely no issues murdering the shit out of people or other dragons.
@@naosou921Cannibal is a completely different case, as it's pretty much the only dragon that could never be tamed. But dragons do have their own emotions which they express clearly without any hdiding, and mainly their scales and bodily features reflect off their personalities.
@@majestic8054 I never said they don't have their own personalities or feelings. I just questioned the statement that dragons "don't want to hurt each other". They are massive predators of the lizard family.
There is no reason to believe that they would hesitate to attack each other if comes to that out of sentimentalism, and we repeatedly are shown evidence that they don't.
I was simply pointing out that intelligence and feelings don't neccessarily prevent predatorial behavior or even sadism. Look at humans, dolphins, orcas, otters and many other complex animals.
You said it best Vhagar is a seasoned war dragon. She's the only dragon thus far to show real aggressiveness to the point their rider can't control them and seems to have been itching for a fight for a long time.

You don't have to be a master dragon rider to know he probably could have just had Vhagar physically attack instead. But even if it wasn't intentional, it is still a bad look and he is clearly not wanting to say it out loud.

Well, depends on your perspective. They've always been a problem for the Tullys. Every Paramount House in Westeros has a traditional rival within their "kingdom" that is subservient to them but always looks out for an opportunity to replace them. For the Starks, it's the Boltons of Dreadfort, For the Lannisters, it's the Reynes of Castamere and for the Tullys, it's the Freys of the Twins. There is a reason why they always try to claim lordship over Harenhall.
They're mostly chilled but the other great houses consider them up-jumped toll collectors. Also they allied with the Blackfyres in their 1° Rebellion
@@hazarozgen6508The Riverlands in general are a mess, lots of Houses in the Riverlands are more powerful than their paramounts the Tullys (Freys, Blackwoods, Brackens, Mootons, Whoever controls Harrenhal) which makes them more confident to act out and do their own thing.
@@hazarozgen6508 The Riverlands and the Reach are unique situations where the ruling Great House was put in power by the Targaryens for their loyalty, not because they themselves established their dominance over the region. In the books, "Lord Paramount" is a title given by Aegon the Conqueror to houses which don't really have a precedent for ruling the region, the only Lords Paramount are the Tyrells, Tullys, and Baratheons. The Baratheons at least had continuity with the Durrandons, but the Tyrells and Tullys are only in charge because they're backed by the Iron Throne. Their vassals are just as powerful if not more powerful than they are.
Alicent's world disintegrating around her is so unbelievably sad but depicted so beautifully. The shot of her hyperventilating in the small council is so chilling; she sounds like she's underwater.
Olivia Cooke has been so good but I think she doesn't get much mention or credit because people hate her character. really hope she scores a nomination for her performance.
Why would it be sad?? All she's been doing was use her children to climb to power... without caring at all about their problems.

Technically the men’s hesitation to listen to Rhaenyra and Alicent concerning war isn’t blind sexism. At the time Men were taught about war and women were not, so why would you want take orders from someone who simply knows nothing about war. Rhaenyra says that none of them ( except Daemon and Corlys ) have seen actual war , which is true, but they have been taught about it since they were children and the Queen hasn’t been. If you needed emergency surgery and your only 2 options were someone who has been taught and studied about surgery and human anatomy their whole life but never actually done one, or a high ranking politician ( simply due to their status ) you who would you choose? You may be screwed either way but one definitely gives you better odds of survival. The big take away is that women should also have been taught about war, but unfortunately it’s to late for the current conflict.
In that small council scene, you can see that Alicent was having a panic attack because she is terrified of Aemond

I kind of agree with Crispy on this. Alicent was very naive in this situation. Rhaenyra knew once dragons got involved that would be the end. It will be mutual destruction. No one is winning here
Yeah. He got to see firsthand at what this war will be about so of course you would want Aemond, the one who gave them a victory, a dragon rider, and the one who clearly has a great head for battle strategy, to be the regent
Seeing that power in action will change a lot of minds. Aemond has at least proven himself as masterful in battle and Kings Landing probably needs a war king to survive what's coming.

Forrest Frey and Sabitha Vypren were really botched. A gallant and renowned knight who as a boy had asked for Rhaenyra's hand and then joined her side in the war, and his wife who wore armour and led the Frey's armies after Forrest died to... a middle aged portly man and a wife in a wimple.

I mean, some of the things that are said here, by Ser Alfred and Larys are uncomfortable, but true. Women have not been made privy to the ways of warfare in Westeros (outside of the likes of Dorne, and maybe a few in the Iron Islands - it clearly isn’t even common in the North as evidenced by Arya & Lyanna). It isn’t their fault, or that they aren’t capable, but a reality of the patriarchal system of the continent. Instead of criticising Rhaenyra for that though, they should be aiding her all the more to teach her. And Larys’ observation makes sense. Aegon’s claim to the throne relies strongly on the idea of male primogeniture, and uses the coronation of Viserys over Rhaenys as precedent. We know that at face value they’re saying that Viserys changed his mind about his heir, but they were prepared to use Alicent’s sons to usurp the throne even if she hadn’t mistaken his will in his dying breaths. Raising Alicent to rule as regent again may make many question why they wouldn’t prefer being ruled by Rhaenyra if it’s okay for a woman to rule.
The writer based his system of government on European Feudalism and makes sense the apprehension by her advisors in this fantasy world. IRL, it was only in rare occasions where women taught the complex nature of warfare and trained for it in Feudal Europe. It would have been risky in most circumstances if a princess was thrust into the Queen role and had to fight a war against very experienced military commanders who were experts in tactics, logistics, planning, etc.

For some reason the showrunners want to strip Daemon of his one redeeming quality: his love for his family.
@@jimjimcherie Forgive me if youre referencing the books as I have not read them but if youre speaking on the show then Daemon not loving his family is partially why the entire conflict started. He couldnt set aside his petty emotions to be a family man who acts for the family and not his own agenda. If Daemon's focus was always love for his family he wouldnt have acted in ways that cost Visery's trust. And therefore Daemon wouldave been named heir rather than Rhynaerya but Daemon had to act like a second son.
I don't know if anyone has noticed, but the waitress girl that Rhanerya's lady in waiting met with, is the same girl that Aegon "defiled" in season 1 episode 9, and that Alicent had to pay off and give Moon tea (Plan B tea)
Summoning the Targaryen bastards looks to me like one of Rhaenyra's major mistakes. A man without family or name will get his hands on power, a dragon and the most powerful family name in Westeros. One can guess the consequences... A struggle for the throne arose even between the children of the same king.
Having read the book, it will separate the shitbags from the honorable. Give anyone power and you see who they really are.
Everytime Daemon gets idiots to do his dirty work he makes Rhaenyra and the Blacks look worse to the people she wants to rule. He is a nightmare to the Blacks.

The actors who played Jace, Aemond, Aegon, Bella, Rhaena, Helena are doing fantastic job. Last season they didn't do much but they're are cooking this seasons. They really do focus on the children this season. I'm happy where the show is going.
Obviously it's bad, but Larys' point about "what would they say if we raised up a woman of our own" makes sense in their position, because the entire point of the war is that their side believes Rhaenyra shouldn't be queen because she's a woman, and it should go to the eldest male heir. If they put a woman on the throne too, their entire cause is fucked, so it's hardly a shock that they chose not to.
There's also the reality women in feudalism weren't taught warfare. It's a very valid point in the time of war, someone with a military mind should be king. Aemond Targaryen has proven he's an excellent strategist and probably one of the best military minds of the Seven Kingdoms.
Jace is the best, a good hearted leader, great diplomat, he's proving the most capable of them all.

So the thing about Rhaenyra is that she was never educated or trained for military matters, she know nothing of war, she was educated and trained to be a diplomat of peace, yes the lord in her council don't know much of real battle, but they have a military education, they know the theory behind, they learn from people that fight in war, so yeah they know way more about war than Rhaenyra, BUT that is the whole point to have them in the concil, if Rhaenyra know about war herself, she don't need military advisers.BUT Rhaenyra refuses to listen to her advisers, they are all trying to help her, trying to say that she needs to take action quick.
but Rhaenyra is basically doing nothing for 5 episodes, until now she given zero indication she has any leadership skill, and ow she has a middle age crisis thingking about becoming some big warrior queen in 5 minutes, she talk about how her father never teach her about war, but is not like she ever show any interest, after she split from her father and go live in Dragon Stone, she has at least 10 years to learn it but she probably spend this time drinking tea. Rhanyra was the heir of the throne but she take zero actions to get ready for it.
Rhanyra has a lot of Skills but she is not warrior and she dont know about war, she know about Politics, she is the one that was supose to be in HarrenHal talking with the nobles, making alliances, while keeping Daemon on a leash and telling him who kill and who intimidate. while Corlys as her hand take care of things in DragonStone, but took Rhaenyra 5 whole episodes to choose a hand.
Sorry but her family and supporters are right to be frustrated with Rhaenyra, she has no idea what she is doing and she keep wasting time and refusing to take action

It's also the optics before their allies, a big point of the usurpation was that a King is tradition and should be maintained, but then if in a moment like this they accept a woman regent it really undermines their position politically.
Also the greens main argument of why rhaenyra shouldn’t rule is why choose a women when we have a male heir.. their whole argument is based on we are the better option cz we got a male… so if they replace aegon with alicent they loose their main argument…

Now is the time i would attack Vhaegar. She's weakened, and now may be one of the only opportunities to go after her. In fact, as soon as I heard about Rhaenys, I would have gathered all my dragons to press the advantage. Daemon would have definitely joined, because that's what he wanted.
So, they were not wrong, Aemond is next in the line of succession and choosing Alicent over him, when one of the reasons for choosing Aegon as king was the fact that Rhaenyra is a woman, would be hypocrisy. And in the end, Alicent realized how stupid she was, no matter how much she criticized and thought little of Aegon, he was the only one who listened and stood by her, yet she belittled him. In the end, her only ally was the son she despised.

I find Jace and his wife so intriguing! Anytime they are on screen I’m so captivated! I genuinely didn’t care about them at all and sort of still don’t but after this episode I’m definitely a lot more interested.

All the named hours of time are the hour of the bat (first hour after sunset), the hour of the eel (second hour after sunset), the hour of ghosts (third hour after sunset), the hour of the owl (some time between the hour of ghosts and the hour of the wolf), the hour of the wolf (around midnight, no Thelonious Monk, though) and the hour of the nightingale (first hour after midnight, so around 1AM).

The thing is, Alicent never ruled for Viserys and it's cute she thinks she did. The only time she had power was when she denied the betrothal of Helaena and Jace, which would never happen tbh bc if the king agrees, then it's done, Viserys decides and that's it, in truth, this betrothal was never suggested as Rhaenyra betrothed her sons to Daemon's daughters when they were babies due to her love for him and Laena, as they were... friends. Alicent actually suggested marrying Aegon to Rhaenyra in the book (she is almost a decade older than Rhaenyra), but Viserys denied her.
The moment she asked Larys to rid of Lyonel Strong so daddy could come back, he ruled. She thought she was regent for Viserys, but the Hand made the decisions in truth. Helped she was aiding him because she was planning to usurp since she wore the green dress, a thing she casually forgets now.
Aemond becomes Prince Regent, but in the book Aegon and Helaena had another son, Maelor. GRRM already complained they cut him off.
Alicent ran his household for the entirety of his sickness, raised his heirs and controlled the tempers of his small council during the serious part of his illness. Even Daemon and Rhaenyra couldn't cross her. She relied on Larys, but claiming he could actually call the shots with other lords is insane. Calling her regency 'cute' stinks of the same kind of misogyny that pervades the show.

Im wondering if Alys is actually there in the scenes we see her in. The most acknowledgment she gets from anyone else other than Daemon is Simon looking at her, but it seems more like he's looking at where Daemon is looking to.
The interesting part about the people suffering is that they’re suffering and starving due to the blockade team black has set up. Obviously aemond forcing the people to stay in the city and locking them inside is horrible and going to backfire…But the decision for rhaenyra to create a blockade and refuse to show mercy to the people of kings land, may come back to haunt her at some point.

All in all they were all kind of spitting. You want to show strength in a time of war and unfortunately a man is looked upon especially in older times as a symbol of strength. You don’t want to look hypocritical after denying a woman for the throne by placing another and you would WANT someone who actually knows how to combat a dragon.

Aemond is basically Aegon’s Daemon: both are smart in their own ways but they are just unfit to rule.
If you listen last episode, Daemon told Willem Blackwood that he'd DESTROY House Bracken (ending the feud) in return for their support, we then see Daemon trying to RECRUIT the Brackens, why should House Blackwood respect and honour their part of the agreement when Daemon clearly didn't care about honouring his. Plus, he threatens to kill the Brackens should the refuse to pledge fealty... and he DOESN'T, well, why should he be feared if he won't even follow through on his own threats. In other words, Daemon has turned House Blackwood against him, and they in turn, decided to use the sigil of the Targaryens as a nice scapegoat to deflect all the blame they'd get for prolonging their feud with the Brackens directly towards... ding, ding, ding, Daemon!
