2:20 "that's your problem, not mine" - mindsets like these keep up the bad image of cars vs bikes that exists almost everywhere today. Spending 5 seconds stopping, giving the driver a smile, waving them through would have left both of you with a better day and the roads a safer, shared space.
@@cycleyyz sure, that would be ideal, and I'm happy to hear you don't. Sometimes, people missjudge e.g. the flow of traffic... Even if they might do it on purpose, giving a driver the benefit of the doubt and resolving the situation friendly and calmly just improves traffic for everyone.
@wiel4nd I think it's possible to resolve issues calmly without ceding right of way, especially when vulnerable users are "bullied" into yielding. Blocked intersections aren't a one-off mistake downtown - it's a rampant problem. Our drivers (myself included) need a drastic shift in culture to respect road rules and thay won't come if we continue to give everybody a break. It's not being overly dramatic. Some people are honestly braindead and have very little spatial awareness putting the responsibility for their safety on cyclists and other road users. We have no idea in the split second if they will continue on their path, jump backward to avoid us, or if we should take it into our own hands and swerve around them even when we have the right of way. In any case cyclists are much safer road users than cars and actually have the ability to act in these split second situations more aptly than drivers
@@warlocksmiling4586 I'd add that cyclists "have skin in the game" quite literally. If we hit something, we're getting hurt too. As a driver, the pain may be felt in the wallet for civil liability, insurance or repairs - but rarely physically.
