I was lucky to be present at her performance in Pescara,a Town on the Adriatic Sea,in Italy.I was a teenager and quite flat broke...so I and my Friends bought the cheapest tickets for Ella's concert.The concert was due at the Naiadi arena, because It was Summertime...IT Rained a lot that blessed day...So the concert was held at Massimo theatre,and when the staff opened the Gates I run like Bolt And I won the Golden medal,the best Seat in the theatre.What a night,I nearly could touch Ella when She sang...Her pianist was The Grest Tommy Flanagan....

Terrific selection of songs by the "First Lady of Song!" One of the most talented artists who ever came down the pike, and with the superb piano/orchestra, pure listening pleasure! NO one in the world can do what Ella does in the scat department, though a few try but they can't match her style or range!. She was inimitable, in a class all her own! Thank you for posting! We'll be back, over and over to hear this! Just WOW, that first number can blow you away -- super-talented Ella! (And Ella had a sense of humor you didn't see that often but her "ants in my pants/worship the trousers that cling to him/ horizontally speaking he's at his very best" is amusing in her version of "Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered") Thanks for listing all the songs and their times, makes it handy to go back and hear something special we want to hear for a reason.
(It breaks my heart that such a great lady as Ella, in her last day on earth, was wheeled outside onto her front lawn, in nature, enjoying it, and then, she said, "well, that's it, I'm ready to go now" or words like that, and went into her house and died. She had diabetes and had to finally have her legs amputated towards the end of her life, but she was through, ready to go to her reward, which must have been HUGE, for all she gave us while here on Earth!) It just goes to show that no matter who we are, none of us really has charge of their own life in its very end. But few of us have given as much over their lifetimes, and brought joy to many, as Ella did! RIP, EF!
@Andreza Dantas Everyone is entitled to their own opinion; if we all liked the same things, had the same taste, or thought alike, it would be a very dull world! You mentioned Karen Carpenter -- what a beautiful contralto voice she had, and her wording and phrasing was unique -- we certainly lost a big talent there, I couldn't believe it when I heard she died. I listened to her and sang some of her songs at work during that time.
And Whitney was another talent we hated to see gone. Karen's problem was physical/mental (anorexia), and so many of our musicians have died because they OD'ed on drugs, it is sad and pathetic to lost gifted people that way, but it happens, and will probably continue as long as there are drug cartels that tempt and kill our artists with their drug pushing! I miss some of those great performers of yesteryear, so sadly gone too soon.

When ever I need a lift, I feel OFF and can't get started, I listen to this woman's voice and I'm lifted to heaven. Somedays I can't get started until I listen to MY Ella, especially Monday mornings (I hate Mondays UNTIL I listen to her). I'm adding this one to my already elaborate Ella collection.

Thank the Lord for excellent recording engineers/technicians and digital remastering! Listen to how clean and tight the vocal and the individual instruments are literally carved out in the mix... Then, when you're working with someone like Ella Fitzgerald, you don't want to screw that up.

I was seven when Ella first recorded A-Tisket A-Tasket and in the mid-40s Black American soldiers arrived in the town in Somerset I lived in, and we kids were allowed to wander around the camp. It was then that I was introduced to Jazz and I've been hooked on Bebop almost from day one, and as a teenager, I thought I could imitate Billy Eckstine. At the age of thirteen, I walked about twenty-five klms to see the first movie Sinatra made. I'll be eighty-nine in Feb, and I'm now in an aged care facility and without TH-cam and Spotify life would be pretty miserable. In ending; don't forget the greatest white female Bebop singer (in my estimation), Anita O'Day. By the way, you're right they don't write songs like that any more, back then they wrote beautiful melodies then added lyrics, today they write poems and scream them all to the same tune. I know I will have offended probably tens of thousands, but I'm too old to care. Happy New Year!.

As a musician all my life, I have favorites in this pop genre that I listen to all the time to hear the great old songs of this era, but I can readily see why Ella Fitzgerald was called the "First Lady of Song" because she certainly is that! There many talented female singers but none quite as exceptional as this incredible singer! Frank Sinatra certainly recognized her talent as well as did many other musicians as well! Incredible range, breath control, style -- she had it all!

Me too. I grew up down in Georgia during the Civil Rights days and I can say that TODAY it's more about politics and power than it was back then. Most of the folks who are cheering today about black lives matter don't give a f about black lives. If they did...like Martin Luther King did back then...then they would NOT support, encourage and vote for folks who support and encourage the abortion of black babies which is a LEADING CAUSE of death of African Americans. Black lives...including unborn life...DO INDEED MATTER...to God and to me too.
