O Magnum Mysterium by Morten Lauridsen
    Brian Buerkle, Arranger and Conductor
Concert Performed at St. Francis Xavier Church of Petoskey, Michigan
Spectacle Brass' Justin Rowan and John Thomas Burson on solo flugelhorns.
    About Spectacle Brass:
Spectacle Brass grew from inspiration to bring exciting and innovative music to communities around the globe. With a common goal of breaking down the barriers often surrounding classical and contemporary music, the group has traveled extensively around the United States, performing a wide variety of programs for countless audiences.
During early development, Spectacle was a finalist in the Calvin Smith Brass Quintet Competition in Knoxville, Tennessee and received a prestigious invitation to perform at the annual Georgia Music Educators Association In-Service Conference in Savannah, Georgia. The group opened for the renowned Boston Brass during the 2013 Crested Butte Music Festival, a collaboration that was a significant part of the quintet’s beginnings.
With a passion for education, Spectacle Brass has organized and hosted educational concerts, clinics, and special events with several middle and high school music programs. Last year, the group coached Atlanta Area Council Boy Scouts in a music merit badge session at Kennesaw State University. Spectacle also performed as featured soloists with the Wheeler High School Wind Ensemble in a presentation of Bernstein’s Mass, a project which served as a fundraiser for the school’s arts program.
Spectacle Brass made an appearance at the 2014 Bay View Music Festival in Petoskey, Michigan, during which the quintet performed several programs for surrounding communities including Harbor Springs and Indian Springs. Another project involved the recording of the brass music of William Funk, Artist-in-Residence at Washburn University in Topeka, Kansas.
    Spectacle Brass is:
    Justin Rowan, trumpet
    John-Thomas Burson, trumpet
    David Anders, horn
    Michael Lockwood, trombone
    Melinda Mason, tuba

This is the best version of the instrumental I’ve ever heard. Imagine a drum corp doing this as a ballad???

One of the most beautiful pieces of music ever written. This performance moves me beyond words.

Harmonic perfection. I feel closer to God whenever I listen to this piece. No group is closer to the organ than a well tuned brass group. Well done! Listen to a trombone choir play this selection if you want to experience heaven.

This piece brings tears to my eyes every time. I love the pedal Eb the tubas play in the middle of this work of art. Reminds me of an organ playing the pedal with his foot. So incredibly powerful and moving.

NOTHING like the deep pedal tone that provides the foundation to the full brass choir above. Great phrasing and shifts in volume. I would like to see the "greats" of the brass sections in the Big 5 US orchestras playing this. It would be stupendous !!

I was lucky enough to get to play this as a chorale in brass time, and I get goosebumps and am brought to tears every time I hear it, not only because of how beautiful it is, but also because of the fond memories it holds for me

It is so well done with the acoustics of the church. Great balance all the time. I am sure Morten Lauridsen would love it too.

4:05 in particular. The suspension and growth of those chords were perfect.

Oh my gosh. This is fantastic for Brass Choir. I've been considering arranging this for my woodwind quintet... wondering how that would sound.

Really nice rendering. One note - whoever was playing the middle (non-melody) trumpet part was sometimes playing too loud and drowning out the melody (which was too soft). Only heard that a handful of times though. Exquisite arrangement, and excellent venue!

C'est très beau, un grand merci!
    O grand mystère,
    et admirable sacrement,
que des animaux voient leur Seigneur nouveau-né,
    couché dans une mangeoire!
    Heureuse Vierge,
dont le sein a mérité de porter le Christ Seigneur.
    Alleluia!
