@@samwelndonga8795 Very unlikely because if they drink or touch the water image disappears. They would need to stand next to a pool of still clear water and look directly in to where there image might be and somehow I don't think this would happen.

To those that don't know, this is a test of self recognition. Only the most intelligent of animals will realize it's their own reflection and not another animal. Most apes can understand this and even use it to check their teeth and eyes. But I think the lion did show signs of intelligence. He seemed confused, which is more intelligent than if it just attacked the image. He was clearly thinking.

Animals move from one place to another, this is normal. But the home of the barbarian lion, as everyone knows it, is the Atlas Mountains. This type of lions does not live in flat forests. Rather, he used to live on the heights of the Atlas Mountains in Morocco. That is why it has dense hair more than other species because it lives in often cold climates. It is called the Atlas Lion because of the place it originated, and the Atlas Mountains are located in Morocco

It's interesting. If the lions thought there were other ones over there, they would not be so calm. Especially for a male lion, which would become very aggressive when it saw another strange male. So I guess although they didn't know the fact of reflection, they realized, in some degree, such things were not real. They focused on the mystery, not only the reflection.

These parks are often commercial (and sometimes voluntary) enterprises for the entertainment of urbanised humans.
The animal stock has very little hunting and survival skills and cannot replace the diminishing wild stock.
At least in protected wildlife parks such as Kruger and Sabi Sands (privately owned I think) the animals live and procreate in a wild environment and at the same time are available for viewing.
I think that urgent funding is needed to preserve and expand wild territory and should not be wasted on futureless side shows - not only for lions but for all wild species.

But still is it really better for animal to live in wild than in zoo? Im talking only about svereal individuals, not the whole kind. In wild animals every day are afraid to starve if they cannot find food, or to become a prey. In zoo they are spared of such fear and can rest or mate till the end of the life. And for exchange animals in zoo should tolerate people behind the fence who are just watching.... not trying to kill, not trying to harm... just watching. Are you sure this is bad trade for animals?
Im not talking about circuses or bad zoo where animals are treated bad. Only normal ones (which are the most).

This experiment is fascinating because it shows how animals think. One can say that primates are more intelligent because they end up recognizing themselves in the mirror, but their first reactions are usually to attack their reflection. In this case, these lions knew that something was strange here and they definitely saw other lions, but they never acted aggressively, I think it has to do with the smell, they didn't perceive the scent of another lion and it seems that they trust a lot in that sense, just like dogs.

I love the way these lions, just like house-cats, look behind the mirror to see where that 'other cat' went!
