As a heroin addict, this movie is the closest to reality out of all the movies about drugs. Requiem for a dream comes close but this is so raw and for me relatable. Nothing sugar coated. Worse than a horror movie. Wouldn't wish this addiction upon anyone.

Bowie's music works so incredibly well for these scenes, and the scenes work excellently with the music. It makes my blood run cold and gives me goose pimples. It's so powerful and overwhelmingly sad

That's an extract from Bowie's Station to station LP. I still have this OST. Song is called Warszawa. Problem is that this is Anachronic cause the album release was 1978. I had an original press which cost nothing years ago. Bowie composed it in Berlin while being 24/7 on coke. He said later it was such a dumb thing to do. Christiane was already out of zoo when the album get out. Same with the sound scene and Boys keeps swinging that's his late 80' work. From what Christiane would have hear at this time was his first Works. Space oddity, Heroes, Changes, Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars and Alladinsane. Bowie was on H from at least the last two ones.
I was an American soldier stationed there from 77 to 79 about the time the events of this film took place. Been to the Sound and Duetchlandhall and saw Queen twice. I haven't been to the Zoo station Kunfurstendam is the one I got off to go downtown. The film brought back memories. Berlin was a culture shock to a young man from the corn fields of central Illinois.

In 1982 my mother attended a high school in Milan, the literature teacher immediately understood the importance and what a book like this could do, in Italy it was already a literary case. He made the whole school read it, many students were already on drugs. My mother always says that if it weren't for this book she probably would have done it too.

1986 I was 18 years old and saw this film in my small hometown in the south of Sweden. I was totally catched by the darkness and misery that I saw growing up in a somewhat idyllic environment. I bought a ticket to West Berlin planning to stay for the weekend and arrived to Bahnhof Zoo a could februari morning after a trainride through DDR. To make it short I stayed there for five weeks, earning money behind the station just like in the movie. Maybe stupid, but I loved it and do not regret it. I also met photografer Jürgen Baldiga at the club Schwutz in Kreuzberg. He is dead now but the witness of my time there is in a photobook he publiced some time after we met and I went back to Sweden. The most exciting time of my life.

This film has a haunting, hypnotic quality to it. It’s like watching someone else’s nightmare and seeing them waste away before you. And it’s made all the more sad by the fact that this journey for Christiane began simply because she was curious about life and wanted to escape her loneliness. But now she’s stuck in the loneliest place a person could be… being an addict at Bahnhof Zoo.
On me personally, it had the opposite effect. After reading the book in school and watching the movie, I was really interested in trying drugs - expecially Heroin.

I really hope that I am studying all this for a reason and my knowledge will come in handy. The needle is the way to nowhere, it's very difficult to get off heroin. I was very young when I first watched Christine F. This persona became a famous legend all across Europe in the eighties. After that I red the book: "Wir Kinder vom Bahnhof Zoo". On which the movie was based. This is a personal deep portrayed story! It was shocking for me, watching the movie, I was never drawn to drugs, I was too scared, and when I was close to the drugs (in many situations in my life) Christine was always on my mind! That dreadful, station scene, with the music of David Bowie and Brian Eno - Sense of Doubt! Even today (I am 50) when I hear that ambient piece, I remember a deadly breeze which was blowing through the station and all that faces in half a dream, rooking slowly like zombies in the draft blowing through the station. Waving their hairs, jackets... Their empty looks, without any hope, ambition, or enthusiasm. It made so deep scar on my soul... I am enamored by it even today. There are no words to describe the terrifying feeling I get watching that scenes and listening to that sound. This movie is a legendary piece of work! It will be remembered forever! It is a harsh and naked reality which we are facing, even 50 years after! And it will be present in our society, all over the world, forever!
natja was so young, she did a brilliant job acting in this film. i’m glad they didn’t cast someone older and try to make them look younger, natja fit this role very well.
I always wonder what kind of an effect playing this part had on Natja Brunkhorst . It must have taken a toll on her --- such a difficult place to be in , even if you're only acting the part .
You can find an interview in SWR Leute in German. She basically said she had fun. She was very young at 13 and nobody expected this remarkable success of the movie. After the set and success, she felt very lonely as everybody disappeared. So she decided to go to the Bahnhof Zoo location for once and identified that this is not that life what she wanted to.....
I red somewhere that this ppl where in fact real junkies at the time, and the director wanted to show how bad it was! The new tv serie about this will never capture what the 70s looked like, saw the trailer , looks amazing but the 6 guys look too polished and well dressed ! We shall see
It's true, the regisseur told in an interview, that they had trouble filming the scenes with actors playing the junkies, because so many real people were there, so they ended up filming the actual people... These guys are real (not the main characters ofc). Also most of the prostitutes and johns... they filmed in the real everyday life in and around the train stations.
I live in Schönerberg Berlin, 5 minutes from where Bowie and Iggy Pop lived and 15 minutes to the legendary Bahnhof Zoo Arya where this movie was filmed.

Film bellissimo, libro strepitoso. Posso tranquillamente affermare che se nella mia vita non mi sono mai drogata è anche merito di questo libro,così vivo e reale che ha scosso l'anima. Dovrebbero leggerlo nelle scuole.
Io invece ci sono cascato da giovane ed è durata otto anni , con relative ricadute . Personalmente ritengo che la droga non verrà mai sconfitta , mi spiace dire ciò , ma credo che in una società come la nostra , improntata sull'usa e getta e sull'individualismo spinto , i più deboli come lo sono stato anch'io continueranno a caderci . Tanti amici e conoscenti sono morti , io mi sono salvato in base a forza di volontà , tanta fortuna , condizioni del momento favorevoli . Ho visto il film , ho letto il libro . Rispondono a verità . La droga è merda , droghe cosiddette " leggere " comprese : oggi sono arricchite di componenti chimici che in pratica danno dipendenza . I made a presentation of the book at school when I was 13, and saw the film with 15! It inspired me in a way that I really, also want to try Heroin to be so cool like Christiane and her friends in book and movie... For me it really has the turned around effect!!!!

i saw this movie when i was verry young a great movie with great actors. verry good a verry sad movie. and with the music from david bowie. this movie is verry underrated. and deserved much more credits. all the actors played their roles verry well. natja is a great actress.
I remember watching this movie in school back in the day when I lived on the island, and that shit scared me to death. It becomes all too real when you see it happening to someone in your life.

Thats how Germany looked like on Trainstations in big Cities mostly, when we came from east to west Germany 1986. I was 9 years old and had the rest of my Youth in west Germany in the 80's. Junkies, Punks, Alcoholics, Skinheads, Criminals, homeless People and young Girls and Boys selling their Bodies for Money. Trainstations were full with them. I saw that. Seeing this today feels so strange and far away.
I just watched the new Amazon series (a remake of the movie) recommended by my boyfriend who grew up in (West) Berlin. The funny thing is, I have been living in Berlin for nearly ten years, no one ever told me about this book/movie. Having lived close to Fasanenstr. for a while, I used to take the 249 Bus from the Zoo almost daily, taking RE train from Zoo to Cottbus etc., I used to wonder why the Zoo station is often surrounded by weirdos (but then, to be fair, the whole Berlin is full of weirdos also on the ubahn 😂). There are always police and the entrance always smells like pee, lots of beggars and there's a DHL Packstation at the back, soooo many street people are living there and they are so drunk and obviously mentally ill all the time. I have always wondered why but Zoo Station remains practical and convenient to me, i actually quite liked it there. Also with UdK, c/o Berlin and Museum für Fotografie beside it, to me, its so cultural 😅 Oh and, I also wondered why doesn't the McDonald's at Zoo Station have a restroom. After watching this series, it BLOWS my mind, completely, inside out and upside down. Everything suddenly makes sense. Coming from a country where not even weed is legal and the price of having any drug is getting a death sentence, I had my first culture shock in Berlin knowing weeds are everywhere but little did I know, I knew still too little 😅 My bf told me they were required to watch this film in school (I think secondary or high school) and the McDonald's at Zoo Station indeed had a restroom before and it was installed with special lights that blur the vision so drug junkies can't see their veins and needles properly. Funny thing is, I used to work at Bülowstraße as well and it did seem to me that they were restrooms underneath the bridge.. And of course they would not exist anymore for obvious reasons. I cannot imagine how people grew up in Berlin back at that time, like how would any parents be okay with this 😂 I understand every big city has its dark sides but this is so extreme... All in all, its a very very good movie and series but also extremely scary if you think about its indeed based on real events..
Which one of these countries are you from? Because executions for drug offenses are confirmed or assumed to have only taken place in six countries: Iran, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, China, North Korea and Vietnam. I guess not Iran or Saudi Arabia, as these are Muslim countries, and you wouldn't be living with a bf as a Muslim woman. North Korea is out of the question as well. So that leaves Singapore or Vietnam.

Ho visto il film e ho letto il libro, che è uno dei più significativi della mia vita. Ho 64 anni e sono stata adolescente negli anni 70. Benché avessi molta paura delle droghe, se ne avessi voluto fare uso, girava tanta di quella eroina, che ne avrei trovata facilmente.

I remember I first read the book (Wir kinder vom Bahnhof Zoo)this film is based upon, this was back in 1987-88, and it made a deep impression on my young self, I believe the author is named Christiane as well. The movie makes a good job of depicting Christiane F’s life, but the book goes much more in detail and I recommend it everyone, not for romanticising the usage of drugs, but as a scare. Ironically, I got so curious, in lack of a better word, that I have to admit I tried H. myself a few years later. I have been to Berlin many times, but Sound was closed long before that…Regarding Christiane F, she is still alive and kicking, and doing well as far as I know. 😊

My girlfriend took me to seee it...me hadn't a clue what it was going to be about.. couldn't believe subtitles what the fuck...I was 22.. opening lines "shit and piss everywhere..at that moment instantly thought this is going to be good....and it was..it stopped me from ever taking heroin... It should been shown to twelve upwards at schools.... fantastic..
I feel kinda of this way. Idk why,but this movie kinda romanticize things. I never wanted to do drugs,I wouldn't use it now either,but this movie is in my mind for month already. It made things look nicer. I'm going crazy.

Good representation of what heroin addiction FEELS like in that culture in large cities. Swept away and deposited on street level. Alot of waiting and low functioning too. Thing is, they're there for the endorphin release opiates give. It's so insidious.

I was very young when I first watched Christine F. This
persona became a famous legend all across Europe
in the eighties. After that I red the book: "Wir Kinder vom Bahnhof Zoo".
On which the movie was based. This is a personal deep portrayed story! It
was shocking for me, watching the movie, I was never drawn to drugs, I was too
scared, and when I was close to the drugs (in many situations in my life)
Christine was always on my mind! That dreadful, station scene, with the
music of David Bowie and Brian Eno - Sense of Doubt! Even today (I am 50) when
I hear that ambient piece, I remember a deadly breeze which was blowing through
the station and all that faces in half a dream, rooking slowly like zombies in
the draft blowing through the station. Waving their hairs, jackets... Their
empty looks, without any hope, ambition, or enthusiasm. It made so deep scar on my
soul... I am enamored by it even today. There are no words to describe the
terrifying feeling I get watching that scenes and listening to that sound.
This movie is a legendary piece of work! It will be remembered forever! It is a harsh and naked reality which we are facing, even 50 years after! And it will be present in our society, all over the world, forever!
It is a horror story to learn from.

natja was so young, she did a brilliant job acting in this film. i’m glad they didn’t cast someone older and try to make them look younger, natja fit this role very well.
I always wonder what kind of an effect playing this part had on Natja Brunkhorst . It must have taken a toll on her --- such a difficult place to be in , even if you're only acting the part .
You can find an interview in SWR Leute in German. She basically said she had fun. She was very young at 13 and nobody expected this remarkable success of the movie. After the set and success, she felt very lonely as everybody disappeared. So she decided to go to the Bahnhof Zoo location for once and identified that this is not that life what she wanted to.....
I red somewhere that this ppl where in fact real junkies at the time, and the director wanted to show how bad it was! The new tv serie about this will never capture what the 70s looked like, saw the trailer , looks amazing but the 6 guys look too polished and well dressed ! We shall see
I was looking for this answer. If so, then that means most of these people have already succumbed to AIDS or overdose.
It's true, the regisseur told in an interview, that they had trouble filming the scenes with actors playing the junkies, because so many real people were there, so they ended up filming the actual people... These guys are real (not the main characters ofc). Also most of the prostitutes and johns... they filmed in the real everyday life in and around the train stations.

I read the book 'Christiane F' back in the 1980s. It was very good.
I live in Schönerberg Berlin, 5 minutes from where Bowie and Iggy Pop lived and 15 minutes to the legendary Bahnhof Zoo Arya where this movie was filmed.

Film bellissimo, libro strepitoso. Posso tranquillamente affermare che se nella mia vita non mi sono mai drogata è anche merito di questo libro,così vivo e reale che ha scosso l'anima. Dovrebbero leggerlo nelle scuole.

Io invece ci sono cascato da giovane ed è durata otto anni , con relative ricadute . Personalmente ritengo che la droga non verrà mai sconfitta , mi spiace dire ciò , ma credo che in una società come la nostra , improntata sull'usa e getta e sull'individualismo spinto , i più deboli come lo sono stato anch'io continueranno a caderci . Tanti amici e conoscenti sono morti , io mi sono salvato in base a forza di volontà , tanta fortuna , condizioni del momento favorevoli . Ho visto il film , ho letto il libro . Rispondono a verità . La droga è merda , droghe cosiddette " leggere " comprese : oggi sono arricchite di componenti chimici che in pratica danno dipendenza . Triste doverlo dire , ma è meglio accontentarsi di questo mondo schifoso cercando di fare ad esempio del volontariato , piuttosto che " suicidarsi un giorno alla volta " mediante eroina , cocaina e consimili . It inspired me in a way that I really, also want to try Heroin to be so cool like Christiane and her friends in book and movie...

i saw this movie when i was verry young a great movie with great actors. verry good a verry sad movie. and with the music from david bowie. this movie is verry underrated. and deserved much more credits. all the actors played their roles verry well. natja is a great actress.

L'unica vera attrice ingaggiata fu la ragazza che interpretava Christiane, il resto del gruppo erano normalissimi ragazzi del luogo. Nella scena dove si vedono tutti quei ragazzi tossici alla metro mentre Chrisyiane cammina, beh, quelli erano veramente drogati che stazionavano li ogni giorno, quasi un documentario in quel momento.

Thats how Germany looked like on Trainstations in big Cities mostly, when we came from east to west Germany 1986. I was 9 years old and had the rest of my Youth in west Germany in the 80's.
Junkies, Punks, Alcoholics, Skinheads, Criminals, homeless People and young Girls and Boys selling their Bodies for Money. Trainstations were full with them. I saw that. Seeing this today feels so strange and far away.

I just watched the new Amazon series (a remake of the movie) recommended by my boyfriend who grew up in (West) Berlin. The funny thing is, I have been living in Berlin for nearly ten years, no one ever told me about this book/movie. Having lived close to Fasanenstr. for a while, I used to take the 249 Bus from the Zoo almost daily, taking RE train from Zoo to Cottbus etc., I used to wonder why the Zoo station is often surrounded by weirdos (but then, to be fair, the whole Berlin is full of weirdos also on the ubahn 😂). There are always police and the entrance always smells like pee, lots of beggars and there's a DHL Packstation at the back, soooo many street people are living there and they are so drunk and obviously mentally ill all the time. I have always wondered why but Zoo Station remains practical and convenient to me, i actually quite liked it there. Also with UdK, c/o Berlin and Museum für Fotografie beside it, to me, its so cultural 😅 Oh and, I also wondered why doesn't the McDonald's at Zoo Station have a restroom. After watching this series, it BLOWS my mind, completely, inside out and upside down. Everything suddenly makes sense. Coming from a country where not even weed is legal and the price of having any drug is getting a death sentence, I had my first culture shock in Berlin knowing weeds are everywhere but little did I know, I knew still too little 😅 My bf told me they were required to watch this film in school (I think secondary or high school) and the McDonald's at Zoo Station indeed had a restroom before and it was installed with special lights that blur the vision so drug junkies can't see their veins and needles properly. Funny thing is, I used to work at Bülowstraße as well and it did seem to me that they were restrooms underneath the bridge.. And of course they would not exist anymore for obvious reasons. I cannot imagine how people grew up in Berlin back at that time, like how would any parents be okay with this 😂 I understand every big city has its dark sides but this is so extreme... All in all, its a very very good movie and series but also extremely scary if you think about its indeed based on real events..

Because executions for drug offenses are confirmed or assumed to have only taken place in six countries: Iran, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, China, North Korea and Vietnam. I guess not Iran or Saudi Arabia, as these are Muslim countries, and you wouldn't be living with a bf as a Muslim woman. North Korea is out of the question as well. So that leaves Singapore or Vietnam.

Ho visto il film e ho letto il libro, che è uno dei più significativi della mia vita. Ho 64 anni e sono stata adolescente negli anni 70. Benché avessi molta paura delle droghe, se ne avessi voluto fare uso, girava tanta di quella eroina, che ne avrei trovata facilmente.
30+ years ago we had "religion" classes and the teacher was putting this film on and on

I remember I first read the book (Wir kinder vom Bahnhof Zoo)this film is based upon, this was back in 1987-88, and it made a deep impression on my young self, I believe the author is named Christiane as well. The movie makes a good job of depicting Christiane F’s life, but the book goes much more in detail and I recommend it everyone, not for romanticising the usage of drugs, but as a scare. Ironically, I got so curious, in lack of a better word, that I have to admit I tried H. myself a few years later. I have been to Berlin many times, but Sound was closed long before that…Regarding Christiane F, she is still alive and kicking, and doing well as far as I know. 😊
Seen it at the movies 82. My girlfriend took me to seee it...me hadn't a clue what it was going to be about.. couldn't believe subtitles what the fuck...I was 22.. opening lines "shit and piss everywhere..at that moment instantly thought this is going to be good....and it was..it stopped me from ever taking heroin...

Soon I'll start reading it to finish. I feel like alot of things in the movie were pretty bad (not movie,but things like prostitution of Christiana etc) and I know I won't do it. I'm seventh grade now,soon my 14th bday (like Christiana) and comparing it to now,I wouldn't do it. Some aesthetic in the movie were VERY nice lol ('80s aesthetic),but then was different time and I know now it doesn't look that attractive. Idk,I feel different way but I can't explain what I feel about the movie. I felt nice things but reading you guys comment made me think better about it and I realized by looking on all Christiana life some things. Thank you both. Btw I hope you are okay now,if your life wasn't good neither now or back then,I believe soon it will be better.

Good representation of what heroin addiction FEELS like in that culture in large cities. Swept away and deposited on street level. Alot of waiting and low functioning too. Thing is, they're there for the endorphin release opiates give. It's so insidious.
