Queen Elizabeth II inspects the Queen’s Company, Grenadier Guards at Windsor Castle, 1983.
I was on that inspection.. very proud moment . I still have the photo on my wall. This was 1983 .I was 22 yrs. This the summer before we went to Northern Ireland.

That was one of the smartest turnouts I’ve ever seen, sorry guards of today but you have been trumped well and truly. I’ve no idea what’s happened to the guards recently but there just isn’t the same finesse as is seen here

@Ryan I’m afraid so, different kind of ops as well, usually year diploma deployments rather than the 2 or more that was the norm in Banner
@Ryan I dare say something has happened to the height of the guardsmen. That outfit seems to be of even height.

remember it well i was Front Rank , Right Flank of the Color , i was one of the shortest , with my 6 ft 1 inch takes place every 10 years , an Honour and every man a legend .

I remember your dad as I was in the same platoon but different multiple in Crossmaglen. In 1984 after we came back we went to the continent to do some 40th anniversary parades. I remember one day your dad being pinned down and someone popped a huge zit/ boil on his neck. The pus and blood went all over the coach rear view mirror and everyone cheered. Happy Days. Harry Flashman not my real name. Nickname was Cuz.

And Her Majesty is also the Company Commander of Her Company, The Queen's Company, carrying The Queen's Company Colour, the Royal Standard of the Regiment. The officer seen here, a Major, is referred too as the Captain of the Queen's Company.

The piece is Cornet Carillon, which my junior college Symphonic Band played about 30 years ago. Per my husband, the arrangement we played at the time was out of print.

1983 men were men ? 1983 was not 1943. 1983 failures got us to where we are now so I highly disagree. If men were men we wouldn’t of lost the empire and Hong Kong. Men stand up they don’t stand down

Yeah what's happened? Saw the GG at the Colonel's review of the 'Troop' 2019. The Queen's Company formed the 'Escort' I swear at least half of them were under the stick. I asked a GG WO2 afterwards. "if the Queen's Company had shrunk in the wash" and he replied "they didn't worry about height so much anymore".
My reply to him was " height is what the Sovereigns Company of 1st Bat GG is world famous for, if you're going to let this standard slip; and become just like any other Company in the Infantry. Then why should you have the privileges bestowed upon you, by the Sovereign" He didn't like it and I was sorry if I insulted him. I was just very disappointed with what I saw.

@@RossKyle95 Thank you for your reply. I'm not quite sure what point you're actually making. A good Soldier has always been a good Soldier! I've attended the 'Colonel's Review' since 2002, when the Scots Guards formed the Escort to/for the Colour.
In that time, I've watched each of the 5 Regiments of Foot Guards, troop their Colour past their Royal Colonel or stand-in. 2019 was by far the sloppiest performance by The Sovereign's Company First Guard, i've witnessed in this time period.
The Queen's Company of First Guard trooped their Colour in 2010. They had only arrived back from Op Herrick XI in April 2010, This was the shortest period a Guards Regiment had ever had to prepare for the Troop. The quality of their performance, was far superior to the performance in 2019. The Army at this period had never been running hotter. So I'm afraid that I will have to disagree with you on this subject. Once again thank you for your reply, good evening!
@@tayspuddy We are living in Different times under the stick is right the army needs brought back to its formation and build it back up even though Germany is closed to battalions stationed there we need at least 120 000 army plus reserves new IFV of wheeled and tracked a new rifle and go from there high standards of Drill can be achieved if we invest in instructors to train the next Generation and Guards height higher than todays .

Unfortunately uniformity in height is difficult today because of woke. Fat bottoms and hight lacking because of gender inclusion.
