      Let's not go too-far,
you have 50% chance they say "it's like a wolf, but bigger"
40% chances they say "it's a man but it has very long fingers"
And 10% they say "it has the wings of a dragon, but body of a human, and the head of a octopus"
      What I'd really want tho'
Is to see a monster designed by a bunch of zoologists.
Imagine designing the perfect monster based on real-life equivalents.
"so we're making the perfect hunter...
It need the ability to smell blood and hear sound on kilometers like sharks...
-what about giving it paralyzing poison to keep his preys from running away? Like platipus, and if it's a hunter how about giving it the feeding habits of a spider?, with a second much more deadly poison it use to liquidate it's preys to feed on them
-yeha that's a pretty cool idea, how about also giving them.... "
And the list goes on, in fact I wouldn't be surprised it's how they came up with the design of the Xenomorph in alien.

    • @deadfr0g
      @deadfr0g ปีที่แล้ว +46

      Hey yeahhh, you’re right!
Why don’t they just have kids come up with all of the cool stuff from now on? As a matter of fact, they should force more children to work in idea farms, mining their own creativity for the profit of the entertainment industry. These infants contain a raw purity that it would be an absolute waste to not fully exploit.
Actually, wait, hold on. How will we know if we go too far?

Obayashi's backstory reminds me of Kinji Fukasaku, the director of Battle Royale. He was a teenager who worked in a munitions factory during the latter part of the war and had to hide under the dead bodies of his coworkers during American bombing raids. So yeah, the theme of youths both being abandoned and exploited by the adult world is *very* palpable in his work

I feel you. One of my best friends was murdered and then the landlords of both my family business & my family and I's house are kicking us out next week. We are struggling to find places to except us on such short notice and having to move everything into a bunch of storage units until we get approved which is expensive and means we have to move a business worth of stuff and our house twice. I have a bunch of medical conditions and my dad had a stroke a couple years ago, so it's pretty much just my brother and I moving everything. I'm extremely worried that we don't have enough money to get first & last month + deposit on both locations. I'm not really sure what to do at this point... Little things like KaptainKristian uploading again after a long hiatus seem insignificant, but mean a lot to me right now to take my mind off of the stress. Just to have 8 minutes that I'm not stressing over it and in awe of his editing and subject matter means the world. I hope things get better for you. I hope your dogs feel better and your surgery/recovery goes well. My condolences to your relatives. May they rest in peace. All the best to you and yours. Sorry for the rant. Your message just brought up a lot in me. 💜

I saw House for the first time when I was in highschool, rented on dvd from Hollywood Video, and just a few years ago was lucky enough to see a film screening in an Alamo Drafthouse. Man you're the all-time GOAT of video essays and it isn't even close. Almost every other writer on this platform feels like they don't really have anything to say beyond "I like this thing." Your essays are always direct and focused; it's clear there's always something specific or special about what you're talking about and a core point or idea you're trying to highlight in the media you're addressing. And the beauty in your videos specifically is you're able to stay on topic and only ever mention what's necessary to make that point. You stay exactly on topic and never falter. It's like watching Olympic diving where no unnecessary movement is made; only the few small movements necessary to obtain the most beautiful and concise entry to the water. And that's what I absolutely love about this channel.

Check out Jacob Geller, The Morbid Zoo, Acolytes of Horror, In Praise of Shadows, Patrick H. Willems, Accented Cinema, and The Royal Ocean Film Society. There's honestly plenty of others too, who maybe aren't quite at kaptainkristian's level of consistency or precision, but who absolutely go into real depth and talk about something meaningful.

I know I’m kinda late, but even if I haven’t gone through such horrifying things as atom bombs, I still had many traumatic moments in my life and I interpret them in my poetry, prose, and even drama
I can’t just shut up about all the things I’ve gone through and the language of metaphors along with the stream of consciousness are the best tools I can use to make the reader realize what it feels like
And my friends pointed out it to me many times, I turn ugly things into beautiful poems-because each of them contains a piece of my heart I guess: writing became my life, I can’t imagine my life without it anymore

    A great video, sir!
I love Hausu with all my heart and it might just be my favourite movie of all time.
Just for the very simple matter that watching it made me feel like no other movie before or since.

I actually came across this on a TV channel late one night many years ago. I was so engrossed with the absolutely insane deaths the girls suffered. The eating piano stills burns in my memory. It's one of the fears I have, a household item coming to life and eating you. This is one of those films I would like to watch again late at night.

The nightmarish terrors I had in early childhood can be reasonably explained by real life trauma and situations. Before that time I had chickenpox, had that fever dream that made me scream louder and longer than I ever had before. From then on they often became so surreal I couldn't explain them to anybody. I wish I could have filmed those terrors inside of my head!

Young girls eaten by a house(clearly a metaphor for patriarchy) is painful to see in a certain way. Whatever their personalities and potential, the only path left for them is to eventually become brides and be part of the 'house' as obedient wives. In fact, the actress who played Sweet in this film followed the same path and the marriage closed her acting career. This story may show the embodiment of a nightmare to most girls.
I think that's why HOUSE leaves us unsettling feeling and doesn't end up just a crazy(which I love though) film. But there would be many different interpretations anyway.

I gotta say if I watched this as a ten year old I would have been traumatized beyond belief. All the movie needs is a toilet with teeth and I'd be living outside.

This seems like one of those horror movies that is amazing, despite being absolutely hilarious these days. Like how my sister and I absolutely died laughing throughout Nightmare on Elm Street.

The spontaneity and scattered topics of this channel are perhaps my favorite things about it. These aren’t video essays about something that has been sought out or is popular. These are love letters to the passions and interests of one person, and that is something you won’t find elsewhere.

I love stream of consciousness media like this. Phobias are irrational things and deserve to be explored in an unconventional way. Plus it's fun to get lost in someone's head once in a while.
