My partner and I just bought our first home and my immediate thought for the basement was a greyish navy blue very similar to Hague! I grew up with everyone painting basements white to ‘brighten them up’, but I actually like leaning into the dark and cosy atmosphere for basements.
I painted my basement brighter colors than my main floors and it worked well. I used warm colors because I put in a warm earthy brown vinyl plank flooring. First I upgraded the lighting to brighter LED bulbs in the ceiling lights. Then under the 3 ft chair rail I put Benjamin Moore Safari, and above it Sherwin Williams Casa Blanca. Then for added color I painted Benjamin Moore CSP 1120 Canyon Rock on a short diagonal wall and a shelf area notched into the room, which are in opposite corners of the room. It's bright and very inviting.
Yes agree, white in our basement was grim, felt like sidewalk chalk. So we had some fun - can't remember the Ben Moore warm sandy color in the rec room and extra bedroom, but it livens up those spaces nicely. Then Hale Navy in office down there, very happy with the result.
My brother has a deep green, like the green in the Edmonton Elks. He had paired it with white shelving that lights up and clear glass cases that also light up. When you’re in the basement, it feels vibrant with all the lighting and you forget you’re in a basement!
Yes! We're about to paint our refinished basement bedroom Rosaline Pearl from SW, which is a very close dupe for sulking room pink. We live in the PNW so I'm trying to avoid a standard gray/mutee blue vibes. We are considering Bluebird feather for the main living space.
We used Agreeable Gray in our Rec Room, Crushed Ice in our hall and On the Rocks in another room in the basement…the second two look a bit sterile and I would’ve liked to use Agreeable Gray everywhere but the hubby wanted something else.
Hi Sophie, yesss, Crushed Ice is definitely a cooler color whereas Agreeable Gray is warm, so that's why the Crushed Ice is reading more sterile in comparison.

I had planned on Edgecomb Gray but it wasn’t right so I used some Palladian Blue that I had on hand. It’s really nice. Looks alive
