- Comparing the DJI Air2S drone vs the Mavic 2 Pro is totally unfair. They are not even close to be similar drones.

At this point, I can see that DJI is trying to make variety of drones to cater almost for every individual. From a budget friendly to a much more expensive drones. That’s why this company is such a huge success in the drone market because there is a drone for you to suit your means.

I mean if I can splurge, why not?! In the meantime, I’m perfectly happy with my Air 2S.

The Mavic 2 pro was leaps and bounds ahead of its time in technology when it was released 3 years ago. The fact that the M2P is still competing now is a huge accomplishment and those early adopters of the M2P should be happy that their drone is still not obsolete. In any case, I do not think that the M2P is better overall than the A2s. They both have their strengths and weaknesses. The A2s has an insane amount of technology packed in a small frame at a great price point. The next Mavic Pro will have even more technology packed in a larger frame at a premium price point without a doubt. I do think one can argue that the A2s can be superior to the M2P but it depends on what is important to the user. This argument will not really be valid in 6 months or so when the next drone gets released.

My hope is that DJI's future M2P replacement improves dynamic range and offers interchangeable lenses. All this 6K/8K business is the too-much-is-never-enough craziness we've lived through in the handheld photography field for 2+ decades now. Personally, I would gladly go back to a 10MP sensor if it had vastly improved noise and dynamic range capability.
Well and correctly said Alex, it all depends on the task and goals.
I had thoughts on the number and models of drones and I made an analysis of the requirements and capabilities - as a result, I chose 2 drones Mavic 2 pro and Autel Evo 2 pro - they cover the range by 99 percent in any work. Everything proved to be true in practice - both drones paid off the money invested in them in one flying season and earned additional money for "beer with fish". I also postponed the amount for the future Mavic 3 pro - I really hope that it will not disappoint. Good luck!
I agree with not comparing in most scenarios.... unless you're in the scenario where you need a new drone now as maybe you've lost your drone and cannot wait for the Mav 3 ? In that instance i would be comparing the Mav2 pro and the air2s as from previous experience i know i would want the low light improvements from 1 inch sensor and i honestly think my decision would come down to if i was focusing on photo or video.
I held out for years for the mav 3 pro and chose not to buy the 2 pro as i was in hope of a drone with 4k 60fps video and possibly a sensor crop / optical zoom ... . The the air2s advertised and had everything i wanted in theory -1 inch sensor, (4k 60fps) and zoom / Sensor crop, i couldn't control myself and ran out and got it as soon as my local store had in stock. So far I've found the 5.4k is really is a bit of a gimmick and i suspect probably hardly anyone uses this resolution anyway ... I've made one video in 5.4k since it came out just to see the quality and i cant really see too much improvement if any , having said this i only own up to 4k res monitors and tv screens though.
I am super happy with the unit but there are all these great features that cannot be used together. .. i can only assume it due to the single processor in the air 2/2s compared with dual processing units in the pro 2 ? Unfortunately i found out by playing with my air2s myself... You cannot run 4k 60 /5.4k / D-log and utilize sensor crop (expected for 5.4k ), you cannot use active track, you cannot use Master shots (which are great, the drone can capture more B-roll than i can in under 3 mins of self flying), or any autonomous flight. Which is a big pain as you have to trust DJI Fly apps over saturated color profile corrections just to use the sensor crop and try and work backwards with a saturated image in post :(.
I am still super happy with the Air2s, i have just learned to live with limitations. I.e 4k 30 , in manual settings and making use of zoom (anything above 2 is rough i find). i find the zoom on the drone to come out clearer than doing 200% x zoom in Premier pro . I am also contemplating trying to make use of the 2.k 60 as i can use zoom etc for my surfing videos as most people watch content on their smart phones or tablets anyways , which will give me the ability for some nice Slow mos.
So i guess ultimately the Air2s is great but hasn't nailed it for what i wanted for., i feel the limitations and always feel like i miss out on something i want to make use of every flight. I think if the Mav 3 pro has a 1 inch sensor or above and the ability to sensor crop / optical zoom and all of this whilst in D-log . This would tick all my boxes and be the next drone i sit with for years like the original mav was. The only thing that may stop me is price - Mav 2 pro Fly more was 3000 AUD , and i can only assume this will be more expensive!
sorry for the rant, i just feel i was in this position of wanting to upgrade for years and got slightly cat-fished into giving up on mav 3 pro due to the air2s capability and not knowing i could use all the features i wanted combined together. You win some you lose some :D P.s Great Vid
