      Dr. Kratky has grown tomatoes using this method. Check out his TH-cam channel or his research papers at the University of Hawaii. His TH-cam channel is dakineapproaches. Since tomatoes are a longer season crop than cucumbers, though, you will need to refill your water and fertilizer reservoir at some point or at several points.

    • @bummblebreez3798
      @bummblebreez3798 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Creating an optimum environment tailored to your target plant will result in fast growth and high productivity for example peppers ideal grow temps are between 20-26 degrees celcius, 14-16 hours per day of full sun, the optimum relative humidity is no lower than 50% and no higher than 70% and it requires deep loose soil which is well drained and rich in organic matter. I tried a grow tent and was absolutely amazed at the speed of growth and productivity. Want to try a green house next.

    • @brismith70

      For cucumbers, the water and fertilizer in the barrel will last for the whole growing season. For other vegetables and other sized containers, you may need to refill your reservoir.

    • @Infiniti25
      @Infiniti25 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      All I heard in the video about fertiliser is that he put it in at the beginning and said it would last the whole season.
      Other comments say stir in year or two year old dry horse manure.
      I suspect you could put some comfrey tea in a mild dilution rate and maybe have to add some more mid season. Comfrey tea can be a bit rich and burn some roots if not diluted according to what I have learned over last four years.

    Sir, with the plant starts being from a 6-pack I'm assuming its the smaller size to where the dirt doesn't fill the whole 4" pot.. If these were grown outdoors in this way especially or even in a tunnel, would the fertilizer act to kill mosquito larvae or is there something else that could be done to prevent mosquitos? Thank you :)

    • @cindyjohnson5242
      @cindyjohnson5242 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      There is a natural mosquito deterant that you put in watering troughs for animals. They are called mosquito dunks. I saw someone using the granulated variety in the soil of her plants to kill fungus gnats. I bet you could flot 1-2 in each barrel. They are non toxic!!!

Before the dirt or with the OFC pipe or when? Still a little confused.

    • @brismith70
      @brismith70 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The problem is if light get through the barrel, it will case algae growth. You want to make sure that the reservoir and root zone stay relatively dark. Another problem would be that the sun hitting the barrel will heat the water and cook the roots. If you can keep the barrel out of the direct sunlight, it would work well outdoors.
