    In a world of sliding glass doors, a challenge to explore,
    Rollers worn, sliding dreams seemed to be no more.
    I stood, unsure, with tools in hand,
    Not knowing how to make my door withstand.
    With doubt in my heart and a frown on my face,
    I sought a guide in the vast online space.
    Then came your video, a beacon of light,
    A DIY hero, making things right.
    Step by step, you unveiled the way,
    Replacing rollers, keeping troubles at bay.
    Each turn of the wrench, a triumph declared,
    In your tutorial, a skill was shared.
    With patience and knowledge, you paved the path,
    A poetic journey of a handy aftermath.
    The sliding door, once stubborn and slow,
    Now glides with grace, a smooth, silent flow.
    I thank you for the wisdom you've bestowed,
    For in your video, confidence was sowed.
    A tale of sliding doors, transformed anew,
    A lesson learned, thanks to you.

    I have a security door on one of my sliding doors that I thought I would have to remove to access the door wheels- going to be easier than I thought. The other door that I just replaced the wheels on this morning, did not have to remove the stationary side. It works so smooth now, thanks for the great video!

    Having never considered how the rollers on a sliding glass door worked myself (managed to dodge this chore for 56 years) I turned to TH-cam. Your video was very helpful! My door was different; I had to remove the bottom part of the frame, then slide the rollers out of the ends. All back together and working like new. Thanks!

    I was going to replace mine today but couldn't find local ones. So I just cleaned and lubed mine.
    I did not have to remove the lower trim piece or stationary door. I did however have to remove a vinyl trim piece on the end of the door to access the hidden removal screw.

    My patio door had a different design, the side bolt was also for adjusting the roller (and door) height, and should actually not be removed. Instead I had to split open the frame around the glass, which exposed a screw above the roller mechanism, to release it

    Great video, with that being said, I simply lift the glass door and slide over the track, easy peasy, this here is way too much trouble, mind you, I have a total of 9 glass sliding doors and they're not the standard size, they're tall doors, one of which is a triple pocket door slider, don't do it alone! I have and believe me, taking them off wasn't so much of an issue as putting them back on, also, I'm a female and barely 5"2, video was informative on how to address these darn wheels, we also have 8 outside huge plastic /vinyl sliders so I've got a significant amount of work cut out for me, lol.

    Thanks for the instructions. However, it was not that easy. My house was built in the 70's. Everything was stuck and needed a lot of lube and prying to get it all apart. With a lot of prying we finally got the door out of the track. After clean up and installing the new rollers as instructed we could not get the door back on the track just would not go in, too tight. So, we cut a 1/4" of the top of the door, went in perfect. I happy to say now have new rollers and door slids beautful. Thank you again for video.

      @mikespindor 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@emilemorais4106 Maybe the sliding door can come out inside the house first and then onto a table to remove old and install new rollers. It is possible that the only way to get sliding door out is to take off the stationary first though. Depends on the door/frame.

    • @privatename3621
      @privatename3621 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This technique may not work for many large heavy S. Florida sliding glass doors. Even when the rollers are set to their lowest position, removing each 300-400 lb glass door pane may still not lift up enough to clear the track on both bottom edges of the glass door. The inner edge of the glass door may not clear the entire bottom of the track, due to the angle required to remove it. May be better off using a rubber mallot and removing the metal edge caps on each door to access and pull out the rollers. Other videos demonstrated this technique: th-cam.com/video/Z2bm8MZiFgI/w-d-xo.html

    • @SWISCO

    What's plan be for older elders that don't have the corner brackets? Can the roller screw be loosened up in place, tightened up then manually lifted out?

    • @SWISCO
      @SWISCO  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well, there are two issues here: how do you replace a roller if there are no brackets, and how can the roller be lifted out?
      If you need help with your specific hardware set-up, due to your set-up not having brackets, send a photo of what you have, and we will judge for you. You can do that here: www.swisco.com/page-id-part
      If you're having trouble removing rollers from a door, especially if it's physically difficult, we recommend contacting a professional. It can be dangerous to remove a door without being prepared.

    I have some old three door (all sliding) aluminium patio doors... the center door is the only one that is used and I think must have square rollers as it is a keep fit exercise to open it now. We bought a house built in the 70's and noticed that the sliding doors were installed backwards. We have 2 sliding doors and the rollers are gone on the biggest one. I was thinking since I will need to take the sliding door off to repair the rollers, would it be possible to switch the stationary side (was installed on the inside) with the sliding side (was installed on the outside)? Would the whole frame have to be turned around?

    • @SWISCO
      @SWISCO  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Kevin Sissons It's very hard to say, Kevin. Firstly, some patio doors have the slider installed on the outside (see Peachtree doors). At this point, we would really need to see some pictures of your current setup in order to offer some recommendations. More specifically, we would need to see the patio door sill to see which way it drains. Normally the inside of the track has a high lip and the outside of the track slopes to the outside for drainage. Be sure to check out our Discussion Board over at SWISCO.com - there you can submit pictures and get some feedback from our experts.

    • @SWISCO
      @SWISCO  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Unfortunately, the make and model will not tell you the correct rollers for your door. The only way to match up the correct roller is to remove one and match it up by style and dimensions.

    Is it possible to switch the side the slider opens on? Without employing a professional?

    • @SWISCO
      @SWISCO  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Tommy Monje On that particular patio door shown in the video, you can switch it from left to right. It's a vinyl door that has cutouts for wheels on both the top and bottom of the operating door. On the stationary door, you would just "flip" it around to the other side. Now, you'd have to make sure the inner-locking mechanism matches up with both doors. Keep in mind, not all doors can be switched. It will depend on the type of door you have.

    do we have to remove stationary door first?! could we take moving door out from other side without removing stationery door?1

    • @SWISCO
      @SWISCO  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Fara. We removed the stationary door for easier access to the sliding door. In most cases, whether or not you can remove the door from the inside depends on the shape of the track. If the sliding door clears the inside lip of the track after raising the rollers, you should be able to remove it by tilting it towards the inside.

    • @SWISCO
      @SWISCO  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      For the roller used in this video, turning the adjustment screw clockwise raises the door. I believe this applies to the majority of rollers since a lot of them use the same type of adjustment mechanism.

    This technique does NOT work for many large heavy S. Florida sliding glass doors. Even when the rollers are set to their lowest position, removing each 300-400 lb glass door may *still* not lift up enough to clear the track on both bottom edges of the glass door. The inner edge of the glass door may not clear the entire bottom of the track, due to the angle required to remove it. May be better off using a rubber mallot and removing the metal edge caps on each door to access and pull out the rollers. Other videos demonstrated this technique: th-cam.com/video/Z2bm8MZiFgI/w-d-xo.html

    nice video. How do you determine the correct adjustment?

    • @SWISCO
      @SWISCO  8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      +raveniskcrow Thanks! There are a few factors at play: how smoothly the door rolls on the track, how easily the door can lock and unlock (lock height), and how flush the door sits in comparison to the frame. If you have the help of another person, have them hold the door up so you can play around with the adjustment. You may need to adjust a few times to find the right spot.

    • @SWISCO
      @SWISCO  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Harold, the replacement of a sliding door can be tricky. Not just the physical aspect of it, but also identifying and locating the right replacement door. Is your current door damaged? Or is it just not working as well as it used to?

    • @cuadra11
      @cuadra11 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It rattles at bit at low winds. For the most part it's just not working as well as it used to. Even to lock it I have to pull the door in towards me. It may just need some overall adjustments. I don't know, Any advice?

    • @SWISCO
      @SWISCO  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Harold Cuadra What material is your current door? Is it vinyl like the one in the video? If you happen to have an aluminum door, it may be a good time to replace it with a new vinyl door. However, if you have a vinyl door, you should maybe consider replacing the weatherstripping around the door. Newer (thicker) weatherstripping could give you that tightness you need in order to keep it from rattling in the wind. Either way, I definitely recommend going to www.swisco.com/discussions so you can talk with one of our experts about your project. You can even submit some pictures of your current set-up so we can see exactly what you have and help you find a solution.

    • @SWISCO
      @SWISCO  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +G Wubllu That's definitely a possibility and is worth looking into. Although through our experience, we've noticed worn weatherstripping to be the main cause of the closing and locking difficulty, as described above.

      Hi Alexander, The track cover is great for tracks that have nicks and dings. If you have any protruding dents make sure to file them so they do not stick out before placing on the new track cover. why did the stationary door have to be taken off at all?

    • @SWISCO
      @SWISCO  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      On certain patio doors you can remove the rolling door from inside the house, but not all. I believe Pella and Andersen wood doors are removed from the inside of the house. And on some vinyl doors you might also be able to remove from inside. However on most if not all Aluminum patio doors you almost always need to remove the stationary door and screen door off to get at the slider and remove from outside. I would suggest adjusting the wheels in the sliding panel up into the door rail and try to lift the door off from inside the house. If it doesn’t work then you will have to remove from outside. Sometimes I find it easier to remove from outside so not to get involved with moving furniture.
      - Dave at SWISCO.com

    • @connormacleod2572
      @connormacleod2572 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Older Pella sliders are on the outside, so the stationary and inside screen are not an issue.
      Newer vinyl Pella doors are Viking doors that Pella bought. They come out to the inside.
