A fun bit of trivia: the 'blue' Batman suit of the early iterations was usually meant to be seen as black (in the same way black hair in old comics often has blue streaks.) The old cartoon given as an example was made in an era where black and gray paint/ink was expensive and not practical for coloring in animation cels.

Interesting fact about the target bit and shooting where the steel plate was.
It's later referenced in a few movies/comics/games that the bat symbol on his chest is the strongest part of the armor on his suits. Why? Because people are more likely to shoot the symbol, thus ignoring the rest of the weak spots in his armor.
A few people are aware of this, particularly Commissioner Gordan, which comes in useful when he is forced to shot the caped crusader off of a building. He shoots the bat-brained buffoon in his chest, right on the bat symbol, thus causing batman no harm, but tricks the villain into thinking he's killed batman.

That kind of bugs me still, like wouldn't a shot in the middle of you chest not kill you unarmored? I mean he would have to get good medical attention but like he should have top of the line n stuff? If I was a villain in no way I would assume Batman is dead from a shot in the middle of his chest.

Actually, Mr. Huggbees, the entire reason batman wears that bright yellow sigil on his chest is for the same reason he claimed he wore a target. In the mass of black and grey and dark blue cloth that is the batsuit, the only two bright points are his face and his chest. The big fat symbol instinctively draws the eye due to the principle of contrast, and in draawing the eye, it draws the aim as well. This is also why his cape is so massive. Beyond making him look batlike when he glides, the giant swooshy cape breaks up his outline and makes it hard to find his body in the dark. And if you can't see anything to aim at in a dark mass but a bright yellow spot. then you're going to aim at it.
Unironically, this is why I'm so bad at shooting Mercy in Overwatch. While flying, her wings are spread out but don't have a hit box, and everything is outlined obnoxiously, so I end up shooting right behind her and getting butt frustrated.

That's actually... quite clever, and makes sense, he is a shady, hard to see figure most of the time, so by giving a clear spot on his body, people will be more likely to aim there, thus... making that spot specially armored/visible is actually not a bad strategy. I mean it won't be foolproof, some people might be aware of it and ignore it. But sure as heck I'd end up aiming at the one easy to see spot on my target, if I was in the imddle of the night and trying to stop him.
I honestly thought the idea was gonna be that the criminals were gonna hide a gun in the camera or something, and when Batman went out in his stupid outfits, all the cameras would look at him except for the one pointing at who they were gonna kill, and that’s how they would know who the bad guys are. God that was so much worse lol

Australian currency is extremely hard to counterfeit because it has so many security measures built into it.
Every type of dollar bill is colour coded so you can just look at it and know exactly what value it has.
It’s also washing machine safe and recovers from scrunching quite easily.
It’s quite useful.

It would actually be highly likely that someone would miss the whole swapping cameras thing. Why, you ask? Well, I worked at a mcdonalds, and we had a phantom thief stealing the chairs from our restaurant almost everyday, in the middle of the day, when everyone is around, and should be able to see them steal the chairs. They took a whole set of those spinny stool chairs from the restaurant, and they were BOLTED DOWN. These guys literally, in plain view of sight, UNSCREWED THESE CHAIRS AND STOLE THEM. Dif we ever catch them? Somehow, we did not. Did our managers care? I don't think they got paid enough to do so. So in conclusion, YES, you could definitely swap out a 300 pound camera without anyone batting an eye.

the bullseye thing is also used in arkham knight. The bat symbol on his chest is extra armored, since it draws the eye and people would aim at it. This is stated if you listen to the arkham knight's speech when he has you behind the bullet proof glass.
Batman getting tons of media coverage for wearing different coloured suits is actually incredibly realistic.
Okay, Batman Zur-En-Arrh is a lot more cooler, because he's basically Bruce Wayne alt persona but even more unhinged. Like, actually close to killing unhinged.
Edit: Did a little bit more research on Zur-En-Arrh, and I was basically right about the stuff I said before, but there's even more cool stuff about him. He's basically a backup personality for Batman if he was ever badly psychologically damaged, so he can keep on going and Bat-Mite (Yes, the 5th dimensional trickster imp), is a kind of imaginary figure made by Batman's last rational thoughts to stop him from doing things like killing (Bat-Mite isn't real in this Batman comic run, I think, but I could be wrong.)

I'm loving that more of the more obscure DC characters are getting live-action adaptations (Suicide Squad, Harley Quinn, Birds of Prey, Peacemaker, to a lesser extent Aquaman with Black Manta, etc.) because it really takes the dumbest-looking outfits and stupidest characters in theory (characters that when you take a step back you realize how dumb they look or how dumb they are; there's a lot that fit this and most of them were in the two Suicide Squad movies and Harley Quinn movie; I didn't watch the new Superman show, Doom Patrol, The Flash, Arrow, or Titans, I have seen the stand-alone Harley Quinn show, but knowing there's a character called Robot Man, I kind of get that that's the same kind of stupidity-in-hindsight) and they're making these action-packed drama-adventures out of them while making you root for these costumed cooks. It's like going back not even 10 years and telling a gamer that Steve from Minecraft, Banjo Kazooie, Sans from Undertale, and Sora are going to be in a Super Smash Bros game together, except with D-list DC characters, it's that level of absurdity and I love it. I had zero fucking clue who any of these characters were before these movies and shows and I love them. If you told some comic book nerd 10 years ago that he'd be crying over Polka-Dot Man, they would laugh at you.
This is one of the reasons I loved the recent Harley Quinn show. They had plenty of weird, obscure characters just coexisting with normal people and it was the best thing ever.
I love that they were able to make Aquaman and Black Manta look cool without changing their looks too much. I’ve had a soft spot for Aquaman since I saw Superfriends on Boomerang.
Highly recommend Doom Patrol, very fun. I've also enjoyed Arrow, and The Flash.

13:24 I mean, that's the very reason many iterations have the Batsymbol on his chest such a contrasting color to the rest of the suit. It makes for an easier and larger target than his head, and that part of his suit requires the least flexibility so it gets the heaviest armor built in. It literally is a target for thugs to aim for, just much more subtle than a literal target.
Same goes for Punisher's bright, white skull. It's painted onto a ballistic vest so they won't be as likely to aim for the head...

The bullseye thing isn't that weird considering many modern stories have made it clear that the BAT LOGO on the chest of the Batsuit is intended to draw enemy fire as the chest portion is heavily armored! So yeah, while the Bullseye Batsuit is silly, the concept has actually been incorporated into the lore of the Batsuit that the bat logo serves the same purpose as the Bullseye on the Bullseye Batsuit!

A steel plate doesn't stop a bullet. In fact, it makes it worse by denting. Bulletproof vests have a special liquid inside that disperses the force. So not even that makes sense.

They aren't liquid filled, kevlar is closer to a fiber or cloth
I think you're thinking of the proposed replacement for bulletproof vests that shows up in every syfy tv show. Most modern bulletproof vests are Kevlar with some sort of plate in it (usually some sort of ceramic composite). The ceramic plate cracks from the bullet, which spread the impact over a larger area. You'll still get a nasty bruise, but you won't die.
Also bulletproof vests have different ratings, so not all of them can withstand the same caliber of bullet

The target chest costume is redundant because the bat symbol on the chest is meant to serve the same purpose (as it's the most armored part of the suit).
I want to mention that Brave and the Bold also made fun of the movie costumes by pointing out the bat nipples (the costume forms on Batman and they shoot out before going back down on the costume) and how hard they were for him to turn his neck in as struggles to move when he's put in one.

whats funny is the reasoning for the bullseye suit (wanting them to aim at his armored chest) is the same reason they usually give as to why he has a bat symbol on his chest.

I'm gonna defend that Brave & the Bold "plothole", the Rainbow Monster fired the green ray at Robin which hit him on the yellow part of his suit. Since the cape was covering the sleeves, the attack couldn't be deflected

@@Rad-Dude63andathird The colors are all vertical, not horizontal. So no matter what ray hits Batman he's fine, unlike if the rainbow was horizontal or if his costume pieces were color-blocked
@@ncisfan1002 Ah okay I see what you're getting at, the cape's a separate piece whereas the suit is multiple colors yeah, but is one big piece of clothing. That does make more sense to me.
