    ----------------------------------------------------------
    Starboard's design brief for the Gen R was to create a race paddleboard that is fast, user friendly, has a lower thickness for technical racing, small bumps, and surf yet still being able to maintain a race pace in flat conditions.. The resulting efforts by arguably the most successful design team and paddleboard brand in the world, Starboard, see's a beautifully crafted SUP fit snuggly between the existing flat water focused Sprint and the all water performing, All Star.

    Is this not pretty much back to a ~2017-2019 All Star design?

      Thanks for watching. Can see why you'd say that but it's not... the 17-19 Allstar's where thicker, way more volume in the nose, with narrower tails and most striking of all a deep centre concave with hard rails that gave a distinct secondary balance point of stability. The Gen R does away with all of this and ends up feeling far more useable as a result, just more predictable underfoot. As we say in the video, it was hard initially to understand the need for 'another raceboard' from Starboard but given the extreme design direction of the new Sprint (we loved the old Sprint as did many of the top flight racers like Boothy) and the design direction change of the Allstar a couple of years ago to what we have now, the Gen R makes sense in the line up. The Gen R just covers a much broader range of use; more than the Sprint and more than the Allstar.

    Awesome review!! To the point with clarity. I’ve been racing an Aquamarina race elite 14x25 inflatable pin tale, All star hard board has always been the goal to get and now this Gen R is here. I am really curious to how this downwinds small to medium waves. Is there a possible compromise in foot placement back for the slight less rocker than the allstar vs that nose perhaps punches better and will keep things moving efficiently anyways? If this is more playful then perhaps this is a better way to go beyond the amount of races I enter. I thought the starboard Gen would be a good board for me, but now I just want a fully dedicated surf sup as well anyways. So perhaps the Gen R is the one for me ?

    Coming from an inflatable All Star 14' x 26", would you recommend this over an All Star composite (as someone primarily flat water leisure but wants to get into both flat water and tech racing)?

      @TheSUPCompany  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      Thanks for watching. The Allstar is quick, but the Gen R is quicker in the flat. The flat deck also seems to be gaining popularity after the wave of dugout boards we have in recent years. You'll find the 14 x 25 Gen R comparable in stability to that of your current Airline.

    great review thanks, is the dugout style already obsolete ? we'll have to wait to see the other lineup for 2024

    • @TheSUPCompany
      @TheSUPCompany  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Obsolete... absolutely not. But due to the changeable nature of conditions, it could be argued that evvery board is a compromise. The Gen R as a hybrid represents the least amount of compromise in the Starboard race range for 2024.

    How stable would the 29 be compared to the Generation 30 for a non-elite. Great review again team!

      ik have a generation 14x28 now for 2,5 years anyone can paddle this board , even beginners. great for starting great price point for a hardboard. great for downwinding ;-)

    • @TheSUPCompany
      @TheSUPCompany  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Thanks for watching :) Stability wise the Gen R at 29" wide would be very comparable if not slightly more stable, particularly in the tail due to the overall outline shape of the Gen R. The hull shape of the Generation also plays a factor as this model has a double concave that is designed to make the board respond quickly from rail to rail making it a little more lively than the Gen R underfoot. Would it be a good and stable, board on ocean chops?

    • @TheSUPCompany
      @TheSUPCompany  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi @@danpintal1215 - without a doubt. As with all boards; the paddler is very often the biggest and most limiting factor but the Gen R does work well across a broad spectrum of sea states across the range of sizes.

    Closer to a SIC RS?

    • @TheSUPCompany
      @TheSUPCompany  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Closer but not quite especially when you factor in price point (and the RS v2 is no longer in production) as the SuperFly construction of the SIC RS is more than Starboard's Carbon Sandwich. And there is no 'entry' price point option on the SIC RS as per Starboard's Wood Carbon.

    In recent years they have boosted the all star now that the patents have expired they invented the gen r they made a mistake, killed the all star and their credibility
    How now will they be able to revive the All Star?

    • @TheSUPCompany
      @TheSUPCompany  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for watching. The Allstar never had a patent on it. As a shape, it certainly led the way and inspired other brands but its success has been unrivalled. Board designs are ever evolving as they look to make faster and faster shapes. The long standing race board range of 3 models (Ace, Sprint and Allstar) has simply now become 4 models as racers needs increase. The biggest change in the Allstar was three years when its moved from a single concave flat deck to a double concave dugout making it extremely different from all previous generations of Allstar. This has led to the need for a flat deck all water performance race board - the Gen R.

    looks very useless. mby its good for surfing on waves if you cant surf normal surfboard. but it looks like a crap canoe.

    • @TheSUPCompany
      @TheSUPCompany  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      Ha.... we'd say proof is in the pudding. At first glance, we too were pretty underwhelmed by the overall shape as it is a huge contrast to what we have in have the Sprint and Allstar. But on the water it makes sense, it really marries the two extremes that we now have in the race board range from Starboard.
