I love love love that no drama or misunderstandings linger and stop progress in their relationship. Almost instantly anything that happens gets resolved and they get closer as a result. So cute and such a breath of fresh air ❤
What I like in this show is that these two always mends there conflict or problems quickly. They don't let a day pass before saying sorry to each other., unlike other romance anime that takes 2 to 3 episodes before apologizing to one another.
It's more real. When you really like a person or get along with them you want to immediately remove any misunderstanding or hurt feelings. I am at least this way, I'll even offer a gift sometimes.
I also like how every issue or misunderstanding they have isn’t rooted in cliche things like jealousy. For example, this episode Momo isn’t all that upset that he’s interacting with a girl. Just shocked that “wait, he said he had no friends?”. When she realizes that she’s a bully and his badmouthing him, THAT is what makes her upset. Whenever you think it’ll be cliche romance plot, they actually have a valid reason for being upset. While the problem might not be something they’re justified in, it’s completely understandable why they’d be upset. And they resolve it pretty fast cuz they’re willing to speak to each other
And even when they're still mad, jealous, or insecure they still talk or hang out with each other. Nobody's icing the other out because even without the romance they genuinely want to be friends first and foremost
Honestly, the romance is what makes this series feels special, aside from other great stuff like action, humor, ghosts and aliens, etc, Momo and Okarun is the heart and soul of Dandadan and their relationship is so enjoyable that you can't help but rooting for them to be a couple.
DanDaDan is the first shonen that made me yearn for these little moments. Don't expect them to be in every episode, but when they occur, they are great. The manga had me giggling like a teenager every time they developed their relationship further. I'm glad to see you stuck around to discover this aspect of the show.
There are also terribly sad moments too. She will absolutely cry at the acro-silky part. Aira is actually one of my favorite characters out of the series.

This also gives me some coming of age vibe and the struggle of fitting in as an outcast and eventually finding your own group of friends that you can actually be yourself and not being worried about it. It brings me back so many memories of my life when I was that age too. Haha
Honestly, part of why this show is such a successful romance story is because the romance isn't really the main focus: They don't need to drag out miscommunications or misunderstandings into the MAIN conflict of any given section, which gives the characters space to interact and talk like actual human beings. None of the frustration of a usual romcom where the characters suddenly lose all of their brain cells in order to further the plot, because the plot has better things to do than watch a couple of teenagers fail to communicate with each other. Makes the romantic chemistry feel incredibly natural and believable.
I agree and that’s how it should be! Watched to many shows where the side characters outshine the main cast. It’s nice to see MCs carrying their own show.

Ken's self esteem being so low that he has so much trouble thinking that she even would wait for him was heart breaking ;( But it's really refreshing seeing the characters being decently emotionally mature to the point that they can be honest with each other, and also seeing them rub off on each other. ALSO Momo getting protective and like openly "marking her territory" by saying that other girls just don't get him like she does was a major W

All i am gonna say is i am glad u decided to continue this anime this series i agree isnt for everyone but the reason i feel many like this series is because it successfully blends wide variety of genres u might not like a certain aspect of the series but u might like something else abt the series say it romance or mystery or supernatural or comedy it has alot to offer so if there that one or two aspect of the series that is worth staying around then maybe stay around even certain moments might shock you emotional factors (throws a curve ball at you) not talking about the comedy factor dandadan has some of the best developing romance story in the manga shonen sphere right now after all dandadan is romance story when u look at the core of the story it is about Momo and Okarun and how their love for each other blossoms over time it doesnt feel stretched or rushed but naturally comes i can confidently say their romance relationship it is some of the best out there from animanga currently.
Fyi, the artist (manga-ka) of this series doing research by reading hundreds shojou-manga (manga that targetted for young girls, mainly romance genre) to make the romance in this series justice and it shows.
So tatsu did a one-shot romance where his editor gave him 100 romance manga to read and he acually read all 100 then made that one-shot and he took what he learned from that expireance into dandadan
i agree that Okarun shouldnt just accept what momo did, but i think he is in a stage where he is just happy to talk to her, even if he just let not so good moments pass. the good part is that Momo very noticible learn what she did wrong and a great part of her was take acountability and in the future i can assure you she will keep making mistakes like any normal teen would, but not the same mistakes, because the reason a lot of people love this show is that the characters actually grow and develop in every arc
Yeah. In episode 1 she told him "that's why you have no friends!" and immediately realized she went too far. In the next episode in Momo's house, Okarun says she can just leave him alone after all this, and each go their own ways. Momo tells him off, but in a more gentle way, and that they can keep talking to eachother about the supernatural. She very quickly learns what his limits are, and doesn't step over them. She's rough and tomboyish in behavior, but very mature for her age. (Although, she does get embarrassed and defensive after that kissing incident. It takes a strong personality to not feel that way when all your friends are teasing you.)
What I really like about Momo is that she’ll say she wants nothing to do with Okarun and get pissed at him and all that but as soon as he’s slightly in danger she’s in front of him protecting him.
A curious fact I heard about the author of Dandadan is that his editor told him to read 100 shoujo mangas, because he didn't know how to properly understand feelings. I don't know if this is true but the author worked as an assistant on the chainsaw man manga which would explain a lot of things.
One of the great things about Dandadan when I started reading the manga on the official application is that they told you that it was a manga about aliens and ghosts, however, there were also other advertisements and synopses that sold it as a love story. And yes, after all the absurdity and discomfort that the manga can cause, the core of the story is a beautiful teenage romance.
I'm glad you're giving it a shot! It's only a 12 episode season, maybe try it out for this season and if you don't dig it then just don't carry on with season 2 onwards? These two are seriously so cute and I'd hate for you to miss out on all the cute stuff (I read the whole manga in a single night lol)
It's still pretty heavily an action show but this chapter and Momo and Okarun's romance is what really sold me on the manga to start. He let things go pretty quickly after the apology, but in general for how awkward he is I don't think Okarun is much of a doormat or anything. He's pretty quick to snap back when pushed.
He still coming to terms with having friend and what it mean to stand up for what he deemed is precious. But it is coming, as does Ayase though from different POV than him. The thing is they are comfortable around each other, that what makes the dynamic feel natural not a sell out. If you seen in the scene at volleyball thrown at him in class, the change already begun. The subtitle is kind of incorrect because it actually means “Should I forgive them?Maybe.” He already start the aggressiveness.
The art, animations, charaters and story is all great, but what I like the most about this anime is the pacing. There was not one scene where I felt that the timing was off. All the ingredients blend well together.
The romance in the manga is a slow burn. I'll say her friends are real ones. They didn't like the first guy, but they DO like Takakura, so you'll see them do stuff to try to get them together.
I’m not gonna spoil too much, but as it goes on this feels more like a romance set in a shonen setting than just a shonen, so if the romance is what you like that’s what you’ll get

I had to read ahead because I was having issues liking it. You know what? I can’t explain it but I kinda get it now. It has super adult themes that are meshed with shonen stuff? I dunno but I’m liking it now that I see where it goes. It definitely understands the seriousness but maybe didn’t translate it the best in the start. If you think about it though a lot of us grew up going through the craziest things with no parental guidance and understanding just to go home and or to school like everything is normal. I kinda get that from this.

It's fine to be more aware than the average fan. This show gets some overhype atm, but it's the standard supernatural+high school+romance+comedy+fanservice formula with some decent art (lots of scenes worse than the manga tho, as always anime budget saves for action scenes, which hurts some of the slice of life ones). If someone's a romance fan, or does not care for the shock vatue+lewd angle, only the dragged out slow burn romance scenes that are like 10% and worse drawn than the manga anyway, I wouldn't tell them they should watch it.

Honestly, the fights are cool, but I’m more into the slice-of-life and romance aspects of this show. This episode was really well done.
