After seeing this, I’m starting to believe the top position is evolving to a point where bottom is no longer a neutral position granted both fighters are equal in skill level Edit: I understand both sides completely. Clearly someone like Gordon could beat anyone from bottom position. There's definitely value in training bottom position. Giving oneself more defensive capabilities and submission threat from bottom breeds offensive confidence through risk perception. Perhaps my comment, looking back at it, could've been worded better towards tactics and the purpose of the guard. For the longest time we've been taught that pulling guard is considered a neutral start for the athlete. This has been proven true to the many great jiu-jitsu athletes that were successful as guard players/pullers primarily, which at the time were okay with accepting bottom. However, as John Danaher stated, one of the fundamental weaknesses of jiu-jitsu at the time was the standing position. As he noted before, leg locks were once a weakness in the sport and have now become a fundamental threat in everyone's guard game. Perhaps my hypothesis, was that pulling guard or accepting bottom position was a notion accepted before due to the lack of development in the standing position of the sport, and now with it's evolution, perhaps accepting bottom position against an equal and formidable opponent is no longer a tactically neutral way to start a match or position to concede. Perhaps in perfect jiu-jitsu between two elite athletes, the guard serves as the middlegame for when two athletes stand fighting for top, and one is inevitably taken down. The guard is a tool to be used by an athlete if put in an inferior position in his efforts to fight for top. I guess what I'm trying to say is, if Gordon had to fight his clone, he'd prefer to be on top if fighting himself lol
Craig so structurally sound from every position. No wasted movement. So sick to watch. Torso stays parallel to the mat, low center of gravity. Smashy smashy.
If you watch closely you see Craigs true nature come out in the last seconds of adjusting and sinking in a choke. The eyes goes blank.. dolls eyes and a tense strange face, the soul of a shark in a mans body, a face perhaps similar to one of a serial killer in the act, all senses directed inwards to fully enjoy the pleasurable tactile sense of squeezing the life out of something.
You know the thing about Craig is he’s got lifeless eyes. Black eyes, like a doll’s eyes. When he comes at ya doesn’t seem to be living. Until he chokes ya, and those black eyes roll over white and then you hear that terrible high pitched screamin
Considering Jozef last peerformance, this looks crazy. There is such a big difference between him and Craig, this man's strenght is absurd. Like how is he destroying the winner of one of the hardest trials division ever?
@@the1shrubbery True but bro is still making an ADCC trials winner look like a blue belt. I'm the same size as Craig and I guarantee Jozef would wreck me without even trying.
@@travisratzlaff7115and look at what Keenan did to Craig in Adcc finals and then look what Meregali did to Keenan at WNO. There's always a bigger dog never forget that styles make fights and the sport is evolving faster than ever to the point where 3-4 years ago everybody was going to the bottom to make black belts look blue with leg locks and now nobody wants to cede top position unless they are guard monsters and even then.

Where can i find an istructional or a video that explains craigs passing ? Riding the legs , Tripod , splitting the legs and making his hips face away from you. I already saw power Ride, someone has other suggestions ?? Thx
Von Flue Choke I think, it just looks like pressure but if somebody knows where to pressure, it sucks, guy in our club does, you're going bye bye if you don't tap
Craig game is slow and methodical. He’s like a boa constrictor. Once he has a position he slowly moves into a submission. I was hoping Chen would give a little more fight but I guess when rolling with Jones he’s just too damn good. Fun watch.
Not saying it's easy obviously but of course Craig's gonna have an easier time with passing than Jozef/Kenta. He outweighs those guys by how much these days? Yes, he's technical af but I'd really like to see Craig try to wrestle and pass with somebody he can't bully. Force him to do wrestling and passing with Nicky Rod please. No guard pulls allowed. And film it. 😂
Craig is just using strength against a small Asiatic-Germanic teenager. If he would choose to fight people his size, someone like Bradley Martyn, he would know how that boy feels. It could make him a better person too.
Craig and Jozef rolling for 27 minutes? Hook it to my veins
Lemme snort that first
It's cool to see three of the top guys at 77kg work together to improve

I have been having this feeling for about a year or so interesting thought...
Top is definitely better. Gaurd is cool but gravity is a big factor if both guys have equal skill
This has been the case in no gi for the past year and a half I think. It’s become the battle for top position
Full guard is generally seen as not great.
Open guard and K Guard is still good.
Plenty of leg lock entries and back openings.
If the guy on top is Craig Jones then yes
I hope Chen doesn’t replace Nicky as Craig’s adopted son
Nicky’s his brother
Nicky isnt Craigs son that's his little brother
In the tradition of Japanese professional wrestling the greats are allowed and expected to have more than one Young Boy.
Why not both?
Sounds like pedophilia too me.
Craig so structurally sound from every position. No wasted movement. So sick to watch. Torso stays parallel to the mat, low center of gravity. Smashy smashy.
It's because he got his black belt from one of the most efficient grapplers ever, Lachlan Giles.
gordon ryan applies the same style i think its a danaher thing aswell

So true and well said lol. A creepy blank goggle eyed sort of hyperthyroid expression. Reminds me of the description of a sharks eyes from jaws.

Nicky looks a little jealous that Craig is spending quality time with these boys 😂
He’s juz high lol
Saw this video, went to class today and top Craiged one of the more experienced guys with the hip floating and staying outside swivelling that he uses
13:02 this is one of the most dominating things I've ever seen, straight violation😂😂😂
pretty sure Jozef agreed at that moment

Is this the ecological, gynecological or proctological approach to grappling?
Hilarious ;-)
It’s the agricultural approach.
Pharmacological
That tricep grip control in headquarters is very interesting will try it out
The grunts and groins are hilarious when craig is on top
Unless you are the guy under him
This made me feel so much better about getting manhandled in practice today

Is nicky always blazed out of his mind?
I am always left asking myself in Chael Sonnen's voice, "Just how good is Craig Jones???"
At 17:36 Jozef was ready for shipment 🙃
I’ve always played guard but recently bought Craig’s power ride instructional so hoping to use that to develop a better top game.
was hoping we would get some tripod passing from craig, i feel fulfilled
didn't he do it at 24:19?

I think his instructional is called „Power Ride“. U can watch a video about that by less involved more improved i think
@Jan-vu8sc already seen it, Washington looking for something more
24:36 is this a von flue but without the guillotine?
That's what I've been wondering. Seems entirely too easy for Craig, didn't know it was viable as an offensive move (i.e. not a counter)

Damn, from inside half guard. Gold from Keenan thanks for sharing Mr Cuddles
13:30 you can hear his fingers popping 😂 i hate that when it happens
Jozef is the new Robin to Craigs Batman
Brainstorm sessions are my favorite things to do and watch.
My lesson from this video, just don't let anybody grab our head, especially somebody like Craig, he just cooks you
Yes, but what I think was much more on display is how immobilizing it is when you split your opponent's legs and get their hips facing away from you.
Where is Kenta's gear at the beginning of the video from?
i feel that Creg is making lifelong friends left and right here...
I love you b-team

He watched Renato Laranja. Porra. Caralho!
