      Mary Phillips Thank you. I feel awful for them. They depend on a paycheck and then all of a sudden, their worlds are turned upside down. I saw the article on KDKA news when they interviewed a couple of employees including one that just bought a new house and had a couple of kids. I felt horrible for her.

    There are two restaurants in Westminster, MD that did that shit back to back. The staff showed up to work with a notice on the door. "Thanks for your patronage! This location is closed."
    The one was not a chain, just a single restaurant. It was all over the news that locals were going to sue the owners because they were selling GIFT CERTIFICATES right up until the day they closed.

    That's completely wrong to treat your employees like that

    • @achannelforall

      Yes, I agree! That person who told the employees to heck off and contact state unemployment offices for their own sake and time must be fired. This is an unacceptable thing in the restaurant industry EVER!

    They closed all of their locations in Michigan as well. I went there to eat and there was a crew removing all of the furniture and stacking it in the parking lot. Apparently, they had closed two days before.

    • @WallieB26
      @WallieB26  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      LoveClassicMusic0205 That's what happened here. They just closed in the blink of an eye. The very next day, they were removing everything and already had items at auction. Our local news station, KDKA, did a report that very next day. They interviewed a couple of the employees that had gotten screwed over. One had just moved and purchased a new home, too.

    • @BoratWanksta
      @BoratWanksta 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Really? They should give at least some notice it's going to close for good, and don't do it suddenly without any warning. I'd say at least a 1 month notice(if not 2) would be good, but that's just me.

    I was just out in Pittsburgh a few months ago and I was so shocked to see the building being demolished

    • @achannelforall
      @achannelforall 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Probably one year later that building for sure was going to be demolished. Either that or the property could be on sale to a new owner (potentially a new business that is interested in opening up there). If it gets demolished then the restaurant space is free space for other businesses like other restaurants, a store or a Speedway if you live down in that area.

  • @chipmaster56
    @chipmaster56 7 ปีที่แล้ว +10

    Unfortunately, this is a very common occurrence in the restaurant business. We have had several restaurants in my area do exactly the same thing. Employees come to work and find the building closed and locked with no notice the day before.

    • @WallieB26
      @WallieB26  7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      That's awful. I can't believe anyone can just think that's an acceptable thing to do. Goes to show how much they really care. It can turn people's lives upside down. All of a sudden, you're out of a job that wasn't even your fault. We all have bills to pay (except maybe the ignorant jackass who decided to comment the horrible things it said on this video). What are you supposed to do when your source of income is suddenly lost? It's rotten.

    • @WallieB26
      @WallieB26  7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    • @BoratWanksta
      @BoratWanksta 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I agree, sudden closings for a restaurant are just ridiculous! I think it'd be ideal at least for restaurants to give workers a 1 month notice(if not longer) that it'll soon close, but that's just me.

    this is sad, all the people who lost their jobs, think about it, maybe they got their car repossessed, or had to drop out of college, or move back with their parents, friends, family, aunt, uncle, grandparents, or get roomates etc... i think restaurant chains over expand, robinson shopping is always busy, but it doesnt seem like their is enough people living in the area to support all the restaurants they built, i know some people drive from steubenville/weirton to go to robinson, and ppl from beaver county, and other areas of pittsburgh, but i just do not think it is enough people, there us to be so many restaurants, i was recently at the taco bell over by COSTCO CLUB that use to be chick fil a, i cant believe a chick fil a went out of business, they are usually busy

  • @simpsonfanboy
    @simpsonfanboy 7 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    It's really depressing to see how common this is watching the video and looking at the comments. I have a similar story in my area, I had dinner with a church group at a local German restaurant, where we found out earlier that evening employees were told that was the restaurant's last day. Really brought the mood down for us customers, but of course that was nothing compared to how the employees must have felt. We felt so terrible for our waitress, needless to say she got a big tip from us. There should be a law that businesses have to give 30 days notice before laying an employee off.

    • @WallieB26
      @WallieB26  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      simpsonfanboy Exactly. I couldn't agree more. And yeah, I can't imagine how sick the employees must have felt.

    • @largol33t1
      @largol33t1 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      simsponfanboy, I agree. It's such a cowardly move when employers just shut their doors and kick everyone out. The owners of this Joe's deserve some bad karma. I wonder if this was done to reduce competition. This is a common move by Apple: buy out a competitor to get more control of the market segment you're in.

    I can in a nutshell give you both perspectives:Am retired now,but our family is very familiar with the restaurant business which we used to be in.Saw the coming economic"Great Recession"and got out 3 years B4 it hit the country.Nationally despite outward appearance of being busy,chain restaurants are struggling.Today's Dining out customers not only expect an"experience"which Joe's in the front did well.However what was coming out of the back was marginal quality @ best.Went to 2 different Joe's in New Orleans,La.and Cuyahoga Falls,OH.@ both outlets front crews did well,but back crew did not.For the money the food was marginal both in quality&preparation hadn't returned to any since then.👎When I noticed advertising stopped here just knew bankruptcy was imminent.So when it DID happen I wasn't surprised.Based on your vlog is obvious liquidation is already underway so your correct Joe's is done.@ least there's Red Lobster,in Midwest is still a very good seafood chain so Joe's going away not a big deal.As far as the former employees were treated,I agree was sleazy but from a liquidators viewpoint is pretty commonplace practices.Job security in many businesses in today's economy is a distant memory which sucks but it's simply a fact in what I personally know is a very tough business.Tough enough in a family restaurant dealing with drama in the front & back.But when you add the corporate chain element with demanding investors~stockholders then we see many stories like this one with many more to come BTW.📉The latest being mass Applebees/IHOP recently announced closures and Bob Evans corp.selling off all their restaurants big changes are happening out there.All I can say for employees is have up to date resumes ready and be ready to hit the bricks.👀

    Wallie after hearing you talk about the orb I was wondering if you've ever had any paranormal experiences while exploring abandoned places.

    • @WallieB26
      @WallieB26  7 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Turbid Dragon I have in years past. I stayed overnight at Moundsville (West Virginia State Penitentiary) where I felt a push as I was going into a cell and heard on my voice recorder an angry dark voice say "I'll kill you!" It creeped me out. Also, just recently when my buddy and I explored the abandoned Lincoln Way homes, as we were walking up the street, a random formation of mist/fog just appeared in front of us. I didn't catch it on camera as it appeared literally by my right side. My buddy saw it too. It was weird but that's all we saw. I've done paranormal investigations with friends before. I'm no professional. I just do it for fun trying to capture something. I once caught an orb following my son in a few photos at an indoor skating rink. The orb had a face and was in different spots low to the ground in the photos.

    This is happening to local establishments around here, and the reason for it is this, the property owners are increasing the monthly leases to the point where it is not profitable for the businesses to continue thus causing them to close or relocate, liked your video btw

    That is a sad story. Here's a variation I've seen in my area. Employees show up to work, doors chained shut, signs saying "temporarily closed". Turns out the owner owed too many back taxes (city or county shutdown), defaulted on mortgage (bank closure), or owed too much back rent (thus was essentially evicted). In all instances, the restaurant never re-opened, and almost all lie abandoned or vacant to this day. Ownership didn't directly say "Screw you, we're closed", but their actions led to that situation.

    They did the same at the Boston Market I used to go to, almost weekly, in Hoboken NJ. The employees and a few customers like me showed up around 11a. There was a sign saying Location Permanently closed and to visit their other location in North Arlington... miles away. Heard the landlord wanted more $$$ Boston didn't have it so now in it's place is a 7 Eleven.

    so what are they planning on doing with this property if they bought it and they close the entire restaurant I'm guessing they want to sell the property for development maybe a box store

    It is dirty how they did the employees. But the reason they didnt want to have to give a notice so they didnt have to pay all that money out. Terribly rotten folks. Ive never eaten at a Joes Crab Shack and now, just because of this, I NEVER will

    That's hard to believe the employees of Joe's Crab Shack weren't notified of the restaurant closing, and they show up for work and find a notice on the front entrance door saying that the restaurant is closed, that's NOT how you treat your employees, that is SO TACKY and VERY DIRTY, NOBODY does that to employees that have become like a family, that just DOES NOT WORK!!!!!!

    You know, there's a guy named Jesse James who made a video about a Joe's Crab Shack in Lake Buena Vista, FL that also closed without giving employees notice. You should check that out.

    I'm pretty sure that's not legal to just close down without notifying your employees. If it isn't then it should be.

    I am so sad the Joe’s Crab Shack in Hickory Hill on Riverdale Road in Tennessee closed!!!! I tried to find out why it closed but all I can find is a Yelp page saying it is closed. I think it had reviews. I am thinking it either went bankrupt because there is still a Joe’s Crab Shack in Germantown, TN. But if anyone can film this old Joe’s Crab Shack on Riverdale Road I would really appreciate it!!!! I loved going there and I am so sad it went out of business. I think it went out of business at least 9 years ago. It was so sad to me!!!!

    Yep it's the reason I don't believe companies when they say "we're like one big family" and ill quit without notice, and have no regrets. I did a couple of times and shortly after my instincts....spot on. Shorty after they closed.

      Not sure what state you live in. But, in Pennsylvania, they limit the amount of liquor licenses. So, if a certain area exhausts all of the allotted licenses, there can be no more. If you hold the license, you can sell it for what you want.

    There should be HEAVY monetary fines for Corporations to do this to employees. They demand 2 weeks notice but they can leave your ass high and dry and not even give you your last paycheck. It just goes to show you our Government is NOT for the working people but on the side of Corporations. Bastards.

    That really is a shame honestly.. I'm from Florida and we had these everywhere, and now I live in Alabama on the gulf coast and until now have always been like "oh yeah they really need to bring a Joe's up here" but now I could care less what they do, I'll never wear my Joe's shirt again now. On another note, now they need to bring a buffalo wild wings here and a tgi fridays and I'll be happy lol

    I went to the one in Latham New York when it first opened and it was ungodly expensive I think my meal was around $60 hours and it was not that good especially for that price. I don't know if the whole company is planning on shuttering their doors but this is definitely not a place where the average middle-class person can go and eat Red Lobster is a little bit more affordable especially if you get one of the value budget priced meals but with the price of seafood being so high many restaurants have stopped selling the seafood or raise the price or lowered the quality
    and it is really ironic because with all of the contamination from Fukushima that has now stretched all the way around the world not just the entire Pacific but the entire Atlantic is now contaminated as well it's amazing that people are still eating Seafood from the oceans and that the prices are so high
    I remember what mad cow did to the price of beef it plummeted it has regained its standing and now is very expensive but it just seems like seafood prices especially for things like lobster and crab and clams and shrimp and things that come from the ocean should have bottomed out
    I know there's a news blackout and unless you take the time to get the news stories from the West Coast especially Alaska and the local channels in Alaska are covering how deformed the seafood is and how the radiation levels are so high that they are not allowed to sell the seafood that they catch
    I think if this was national news and world news the price would plummet

    Its not joes crab shack fault...it is whoever this location was franchised out to. And it could even be the property owners fault, if the property owner did not renew the lease (for whatever reason) the business would have no choice but to shut down. So before you judge joes crab shack as a whole look into the situation of this specific location.
