I never comment on videos but this was super helpful so I appreciate it. I was able to fix it without using a screw since I don’t have a power drill. I did it with a tiny piece of paper cup sleeve and wedged it close to the end of the lever arm near the pivot point to limit the arm range that way. Taped it to hold it in place and voila it worked
I'm so glad the video helped!! And cleaver idea to wedge something in. One of the reasons I started this channel was to give back to the youtube community that has helped me out so much. Thanks for watching, commenting, and sharing!!
This video was very helpful. Although I now know that my actuator does need replacing this gave me the confidence to investigate it myself and get it working manually with the key until the replacement arrives. I will now be able replace it myself.
Thank you for the video! Unfortunately, a bit too late as I have got myself a new lock for my Toyota Sai. However, I enjoyed watching both explanation and solution. My lock had the same issue.
Glad you found it helpful! My Lexus and I are trying to age gracefully. Sometimes those original parts need a little help! Thanks for watching and your kind words 😊
So, my daughter's 2011 Camry had the same issue...almost. After lubing the latch, watching videos, verifying everything was working, more videos, I hung my head in frustration. When I opened my eyes, I was looking down at the hook, and it looked...funny. Not level. SHIFTED. Then I noticed crackling in the bumper clear coat. I gently pushed the center of the soft bumper toward the hook, and found the metal support was a little concave. Afraid to bend the hook, I added some washers above the two 10mm bolts to change the angle of latch, and voilá! When I asked her, "what was it, a mailbox or another car?" she was stunned, but knowing she was busted, admitted she had backed into a basketball goal the day before. 😂😂😂
Great story with a happy ending 😀. And you get super dad status as you can fix anything, and your all knowing.I Thanks for watching and sharing! Sounds like you could start your own TH-cam channel... I'd subscribe 🤠
Nope, My latch worked fine with the screwdriver test. I found that the catch for the latch was very loose. One of the bolts underneath had come completely off and the other one was almost out. I removed the loose one - big mistake. The two bolts screw into a bar under the catch mechanism and that bar fell to the bottom of the cavity when I removed the last bolt. When I was able to retrieve it, I had to hold it in place while I got one blot in and then aligned. Then had to maneuver the mechanism so I could get the other end lined up and get it tight. This sounds as clumsy as it was, but eventually I got everything lined up and in place and tight and my problem was solved.
Wouldn't replacing the spring with one with slightly more tension on it have fixed it? That's what appears to be it's function, as I don't see any other means to regulate it
That might work as well. I could have replaced the whole latch but was interested in seeing if this would work. And it is still working fine. Thanks for watching and commenting!
I tried a couple of springs from my horde, but they didn't work. I figured it would be hard to get the spring just right, so I went ahead with the fix in the video

Good luck with your trunk latch and thanks for your kind words!!
That's exactly the problem my wife's Lexus has. I'll be exploring it today to see if your fix works for me. Thanks!
Thank you for the video!

Very informative walkthrough. I’m going to try this on my LS460 (the trunk won’t close). I hope I work out how to fix it 😭
Good luck! And thanks for watching and sharing 😊
It worked for me. I will use the button instead of the remote when possible from now on.

Have you been successful in finding springs of proper dimensions and tension?
I tried a couple of springs from my horde, but they didn't work. I figured it would be hard to get the spring just right, so I went ahead with the fix in the video
Great job 👍Thx
