    A lot can happen in a year of running. You've certainly had an eventful one. Nice to get that fast park run towards the end of the year. You can put your feet up now!

      That's it! Maybe I'll just sack it all off. Quit at the top!

    Well done Rich, it was me that shouted out hi, you see you have many running followers! I finished 20.10, you must have overtaken me when you pushed the last couple of km.

      hey Mark! ah great, well thanks for saying hi! How weird, I was sure you'd finished way ahead of me! Might do Dulwich again soon so maybe see you again

    Nice job, Rich! A sub-20 5k is very impressive. Not sure I could get close nowadays. Totally understand not filming the race. I’ve left the camera at home for all of my races this year so I could just focus on the task at hand. Going to try to film a bit more in 2024 for the memories, more than anything.

      hey man! thank you, but you're not far off me pace wise, so I reckon it's doable. There is something quite enjoyable about running without a camera but of course it's nice to have the footage. I do regret not filming the race now but I also feel it was the right thing to do

    Finding inspiration from this as I am also trying to come back to former greatness of a sub 20 park run. Shows it can be done. Your videos also make me chuckle. You deserve more views so commenting for the algorithm. That's a thing apparently.

      aw thank you very much! I'm not that au fait with how this all works so maybe I should educate myself again! How is your re-greatness journey proceeding?

      @@jc8451 Well im very glad it’s helpful! I can really get in my head about being ready to try something and I never regret just going for it. Also I forgot to mention in the video but my garmin is still predicting my 5K time as 20:26 and my VO2max is less than it was 18 months ago when I was way less fit! So you have to just trust yourself sometimes! Good luck!

    Congratulations Rich! You menioned to ran is Vaporfly's. How much do you think they shave off your 5k time compared to a cheapo £50 pair of running shoes? I'm also gunning for sub 20 min 5k and have bought a pair of vaporfly's but I'm holding them in reserve. At the moment I'm around 21.20 using some crappy trail shoes I bought in Decathlon. I'm trying to decide at what time i need to get down to in my trail shoes, before deciding to unleash my vaporfly's (I really don't want to get them dirty for failure,) and have a real shot at going sub 20.

    • @TheRichKeeble
      @TheRichKeeble  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thank you! Ah yes I glossed over the Vaporflys didn't I. I bought mine about 16 months ago according to my spreadsheet and I've done 170km in them. Apart from a couple of parkruns I've only used them on tarmac races. I ran my most recent marathon in them and every "big" race since September 2022 except the 20 miler I did a few weeks before my marathon, and the Polesden 10K I did recently in trail shoes. So I like to save them as you do. It's hard to quantify how much you would benefit timewise but I really think I get a good few seconds per km out of them. They feel so light on your feet and you get so much energy return, I remember at Dulwich feeling like my legs were just pumping. Early 2022 when I was training for my first marathon (Brighton) i'd been running everything in my Brooks Ghosts, which are very soft and I bought some Saucony Endorphin Speed 2s which have a nylon plate, and I remember the shock I felt at how much faster I was running for similar effort. I was literally gettin 20s per km or something. Then I remember when I got the Vaporlfys it just felt like I was squeezing a few more. I think the lightness really helped my marathon this year too, but I can't compare to my first one because I was better trained and had better nutrition. I think I said in the video that when I ran Hazelwood I was surprised at how tough it was as I thought I should be able to get near 20, but I was near 21, and I think running on the soft, wet grass really sucked that energy out, that otherwise on a road with the supershoes on I might've snuck under 20. Don't be too scared to use the Vaporflys... maybe don't put too much pressure on yourself and give them a go! You might be surprised, and they shouldn't fall apart that quickly!
