Your tutorials are awesome through all ages, Gavin. I'm watching this again 10 years later (2019, like Amr Soliman, below). Thank you always. I thought you had done a hockneyized image of a building once, but I can't find it. Your VW camper tutorial might be close enough. Thanks again. : )
i could kiss you right now, been looking everywhere for how to edit in the style of david hockney. i've got a deadline thursday and you told it step by step and easily, thankyou!
Gavin I've only just come across your tutorials and yipee I'm over the moon Awesome I'll be trying out some later on Thanks a lot would never learn without these loved the 1 where you wrap a text or patern hope to see more Thanks again
Awesome tutorial Gavin with awesome effect example.I never seen this kind of awesome effect before But it is possible because of your awesome tutorial & your awesome trick Thanks so much for your kind effort You are awesome tutor. Your all video tutorial are Awesome I've learned so much from you THANK you so much for all your hard work, it has brought me immense joy, satisfaction and knowledge! Your all tutorial are very valuable for us please keep them coming God bless you
Awesome Gavin! For the Actions you can assign an F (function) key when you create the action. This way will save some clicks and moves - just pres the F key. For the Blending Options/fx/Layer Style you can save time by right clicking on the layer with fx -> Copy Layer Style, then hold Shift, click on the first layer without fx and last one, then right click -> Paste Layer Style
Nice video Gavin. You can also copy the layer style with right mouse button and paste into all layers at the same time. Thats saves you some time also.
Very nice tutorial. I think you should have mentioned the hotkey option for "actions", though. Instead of hitting play every time to do the action, which in itself is quite repetitive, you can assign almost whatever key you want, to act as a hotkey for that unique action you just made. Also, when darkening some of the layers, I found the 3D effect to be more obvious, if you only darken the layers at the bottom of the layers panel. And maybe even lighten some of the layers at the top.
At 8:00, you can speed things up a lot by copying the layer style by right clicking the layer and selecting the copy layer style option toward the bottom, then select all the layers you want to apply that effect to, and then paste the layer style to all those layers simultaneously by right clicking and selecting the paste layer styles option.
Love the tutorial. Hint - right click on layer with drop shadow, choose copy layer style, select all other layera, right click and choose paste layer style. Much faster thsn doing it one layer at a time.
At 1:49 how does he change the color. I hear he says "preesing control"but I cannot understand how he changes the color. Thank you who tell me how to do that. Gavin, thank you, Your works are great!
@HellzNemesis yup, the grid pattern should be made on a canvas much smaller than the initial pic... so for a 1000x1000 pic, we could use a 200x200 grid to get 25 pieces. either use some math or trial and error for getting what u want
i know this is an old tut.. but im havin a lil trouble.. i was woundering what size the picture u started wit was.. because im not gettin the grid right .. so im thinking my starting pitchure is way tooo small.. if some one sees this and has any help .. many thanks to u for the time.. =-)
@HellzNemesis Well theres about 7 by 5 grids seen when he's filled the layer in so we can guess its just [500pixles x 7] by [500pixels x 5]. So the original would've been about 3500pixels by 2500 pixels (plus that little extra bit he had before cropping) Hope I helped and goodluck with the photoshopping ;D
I can not do it. I've spent two days trying to replicate what is pictured above. I have photoshop 2020 and mirrored every step but does not come out like Mr Hoey has taught.
Need help - my grid appears very large - like double your size - so only 6 cubes in the photo. I have tried this 3 ties saving as a new pattern - still so luck. What am I doing wrong? thanks
Despite working HOURS with this I cannot get the grid to come up What i get is a grid of 2 lines sectioning the new page into 3 parts one large and 2 small. There has to be an answer--please?

I am wondering if you could include that layer effect into the action panel in the first place.
Brilliant!
I can not do it. I've spent two days trying to replicate what is pictured above. I have photoshop 2020 and mirrored every step but does not come out like Mr Hoey has taught.

does anyone know if there is an option for the squares to actually show the overlaping shadow? mines are just covering each other.
you can either do that or do filter, stylize, extrude.
Thank you, I have a problem to do auto select, I use photoshop cs3, when I use auto select they do not select seperate layer for me. What should I do?
it was great..... !! thanks!
Muito Bom Mesmo, parabéns!!!
Despite working HOURS with this I cannot get the grid to come up What i get is a grid of 2 lines sectioning the new page into 3 parts one large and 2 small. There has to be an answer--please?
