    Tents are not houses. These people are violent drug addicts and need to be placed under conservatorship by the city and province and placed in mental hospitals and rehab for their own safety and to get them off drugs. Enough bleeding hearts for them. The real victims are the disadvantaged tenants of the buildings that line Hastings. Disadvantaged seniors, working poor people, and disabled individuals living only on government assistance and minimum wage that can not afford to move or live anywhere else except the low rental units in the DTES. The city under current city council and mayor continue doing nothing to address the need for below market housing and housing for minimum wage earners and people on govt assistance. Instead the city approves high end condo development after high end condo development full of condos that sit empty and no one can afford.

      What are their election promises? Any ideas

      @@ExploreVancouverCanada I like vision because when the majority of council were vision and Gregor Robertson was mayor, they built a lot of affordable housing and modular housing to free up space in shelters and get homeless people into the modular housing not just leaving the struggling people sleeping on shelters or SROs. All the current councilors and candidates running just seem to want to keep allowing the situation in the DTES to continue and keep people on hard drugs. Vancouver needs councilmen and women who are serious about the housing crisis and will get low income housing built not just high end condos.

      @@Liberal_From_Prairies689 Robertson _promised_ 500 units of *affordable* housing, and only produced *40 units!* That's not quite a _win,_ now, is it?!
      This city's politicians *SOLD THIS CITY OUT DECADES AGO!*
      You let the greed of the real estate market sell your city to foreign markets (as EASY *MONEY LAUNDERING* schemes for *DRUG DEALERS* from Asia - the same drugs that are KILLING the people living on these streets - perverse - but *TRUE.* Deal with it).
      ... And - *A D D C T I O N* _"keeps people on drugs," ace. It's just that simple. And you can NOT FORCE ADDICTION away - that is far more complex.
      Honestly, if I was *forced* to live under such circumstances as these poor unfortunates, living their precious lives on a filthy slab of concrete, (with _nice people,_ like _yourself,_ stepping over them, without even seeing them, maybe I'd need to be *numb* for it too!

    • @derekhiebert1654
      @derekhiebert1654 ปีที่แล้ว

      Seriously STFU. These people don't want to work and couldn't afford an 18000 square foot home for 50 bucks a month. Give them all the drugs they want for for free and up the potency by 50x. This problem would dissolve in a week.

    • @Liberal_From_Prairies689
      @Liberal_From_Prairies689 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@derekhiebert1654 what the hell are you talking about? Working minimum wage in BC earns a person $2400/month. There's studio apartments for around $1600-$1700/month in metro Vancouver, if they can't afford Vancouver, there's other cities in BC where they can rent for $1200-$1300/month. And a fact, most of them are spending thousands of dollars a month supporting their drug habits, they don't want housing because landlords don't allow this filth and junk to be hoarded and they can't use hard drugs in the buildings, so they choose this instead. AND a lot of them are just drug dealers and addicts who set up the tents to have drug parties and distribute drugs. People with your attitude are why things are getting worse, this issue won't fix itself. Did Sarah send you to comment?

    Thank you for the interesting upload. It's desperately sad to see so many disabled people in wheelchairs, some with limbs missing. I cannot imagine how difficult everything must be for them to just get through the day. Heartbreaking how some people suffer so much.

    Sad indeed for those that have NO choice! I grew up there, and I remember it bustling with people, the walk past kubla khan, smiling buddha on way past BC Collateral to Lux and Majestic theatres... yes I am that old... back then, just a few drunks, but a vibrant neiighbourhood it was. Can only hope it gets better for those in nedd. ALL THE BEST and thanks again for sharing!

      Homes were torn down and the property is still empty .

    I went to Vancouver with my daughter two years ago. Gastown has a large number of homeless people on a section of one block. I saw people doing drugs, needles on the ground, people were defecating on the sidewalk in front of everyone during the day. It was very sad to see.

    What’s with all the “stuff” ? You don’t see this anywhere else in Canada . I dated this girl , she liked her H , but when she was high all she wanted to do was go “ dumpster diving” didn’t know what that was till I met her lol . She would be gone for hours .. aw but when she came back ,, she would have so much shit , and random shit that just made no sense.. but when she was going through it all she looked so happy , but man there was “stuff” everywhere lol I never actually live on Hastings but in 2016 I lived in victory square for like 3 or 4 months that summer. It was both the worst and best time of my life . I still have the tent I used packed up in storage .
    I’m a survivor of vanstreets, ended up briefly homeless, but I couldn’t stay in that situation, so I made drastic changes and came back to Alberta , and back on my feet . #ilovevancity

    Breaks my heart. Our country has been a land of plenty until rich politicians chose to destroy it. I used to walk down this street years ago and always felt safe. Pluse it was scenic with good vibes. There was panhandling but never squatters. Across Canada, squatters are everywhere. Mentally, ill need to be rescued and all removed from the streets into homes.

I admire them for Fulfilling their dreams instead of working a soul crushing 9-5 job, where the Boss makes your life total hell for not meeting your quota. Everyday hardworking tax paying people struggle daily and we all see what's happening to people who live on the streets. So ask yourself " what have I done today or ever done to help other humans begins living in poverty?
    This is society's problem and we the people have the power to make a difference and create positive impacts in support of governments and non-profit organizations.
    I ask you this one question. Are you interested or committed?
    Interested meaning enough to just watch the News or committed to take action in your community and help make positive changes.
    Today I enjoy a roof over my head and food in my belly, however tomorrow everything could change and now I am homless ! How long can one person live in servial mode for before Addiction takes over and other humans just walk by you without saying a word.
    If that's your mindset to voice your concerns yet do nothing then how is change supposed to happen?
    If 50percent of homeless choose Addiction then the other 50 percent choose homelessness highly unlikely.
    Please 🙏 help make a difference today and Educate yourself about poverty we need realistic and measurable solutions.
