Sounds like a good way to keep a chronicle of lifes journey. Many channels provide education and others are hit or miss. Interesting topics and at the moment conversations help with making decisions on where to begin and what to do while in retirement. Still sporty so ill search for active pursuits but encouraged by the many boots on the ground sharing a slice of their lives so Thanks and keep strong 🏋️‍♂️

If you want to do TH-cam as a hobby, you will make very little. Very few creators make a "couple hundred per month." To make anything substantial, it will be more like a full-time job and will consume you.And if you want to do it right, it will require an investment of both time and money! I treat it as a hobby and do not let it get in the way of everything I enjoy doing in my retirement.

I started my channel as a hobby when I retired. It had to keep me busy and keep my brains active. I never had the intention of monetising. The day TH-cam becomes another career, I will stop it, because that is not what I want to do. I'm retired, I want to enjoy my days without the hassle of a full time job. While I appreciate every view and every subscriber, I will never go out of my way to attract them. That being said, I have lots of respect for people who still have the courage to start a new career at our age!

If my channel ever gets monetized, great! But I started my channel (this is my 2nd channel) to keep friends and family informed on what's going on, my thoughts and plans.
I was talking to a former neighbor/friend, last week. She told me that if it wasn't for my videos, she wouldn't know what's going on with me.
Now that new people are subscribed to my channel, I can try to show what I see and experience here. Who knows if I'm on the right track? It's friends like you that inspire and mentor me in my everyday life and how to express it.

Definitely find youtube educational, and for sure find it entertaining also. The channels I find that I believe that are BS, I don't watch that channel.
Am thinking about a youtube channel. Not that I need the money but it would be cool for a hobby and a way to communicate with family back in the US. The one downside I see is the loss of privacy. Also don't think I have the right TV personality for youtube, although maybe practice would make me better. Only started watching regularly last December, before that, only used youtube to help working on something around the house or my vehicles.
You have a great channel, Mike. Love your content. Love the way you present your topics too. Know that you are working hard on your channel all the time and very much appreciate it. Kudos to Janet for her support for your channel too. Wish her luck on her channel also, so far it has been good.

Read what it says on the tin.
It's an open platform for people to access to view to post and take from it what you want.
I've found some of it entertaining, some useful and insightful.
Some of it I agree with, some I don't some I found completely at odds with my values.
In terms of travelling to the Philippines it's like buying a guidebook you are at the mercy of the author. Likewise the vlogger.
Their experience of the visit and indeed life in general may not be the same as your own.
    Best way to find out?
Research listen to others who have experience but ultimately visit and discover for yourself.
In answer to your question Mike You Tube is all of the things you describe! But it's up to the "viewer" to choose what appeals to them.
Ultimately it's better to have a variety of views and opinions than too few leaving the viewer to make an informed choice.
Disagree or don't like some content? No need to bust a gut just don't watch!😊

I started mine to document my travels for my family and as you said a hobby. When invited to be in partner program I deleted the email. I know the Philippines is very strict when it comes to work and the applicable working visa. Even voluntary (not being paid) work is prohibit. Sure nobody cares if you are helping others free of charge, until somebody dislikes you and decide to report you.
Now, being a TH-camr full time in the Philippines where the Philippines is the main topic and displayed, it is considered as work? It would in theory require a working visa?

The Philippine insurance commission requires valid referrals to acquire certain insurance. The occupational skill, place of business, and job role are involved with the jurisdictional insurance policy underwriting with the Republic of the Philippines. A mutual concern of fiduciary capacity involves the legal right of foreigners with customs officers that review the financial requirement with the VISA application for the use of personal identifiable information. @@rustynail3630 exactly correct because I personally know a few dudes that have a TH-cam channel and they generally have about a half a day tied up in a video after editing everything and making sure it’s perfect before uploading it so it’s definitely time consuming. Believe me if you bust down an extra thousand or so a month, you’re working for it and you’re supposed to be retired. That’s the whole purpose of retiring is to retire. Take it easy relax.

just watch the most successful pro athletes. they are really raking in the $. and they're not doing it all by themselves. they have a team of experts. that's what I wish for YT. as it evolves, more players behind the scenes would be ideal. content is an example needing big help. one channel encountered a fellow YTber from japan. as low as I graded ours, hers was sooo low. just watch me eat this grape! OMG

If you have to resort to YT to survive in the Philippines, that just means you did not bring enough money here to begin with. I came here to retire and never work again, and I came here with enough money for my wife and I to live very well. MOST vloggers just ramble on and like to hear themselves talk. I only listen to 2 channels. Both have given me great info and saved me lots of money. The worst are the sexpats, as they just entice the trash expats to move here.

The problem with expat TH-cam channels from the Philippines is that basically all of them fail to completely cover the negatives of living in the Philippines. I think there are two reasons for this. One, they fear negative content will just not receive as much viewer interest. And two, Filipinos are quite defensive about their country and their culture. And the content creators simply don't want to offend anyone. I guess this is understandable, but it often means the viewers only get part of the story, and certainly not the full picture.

Just about all the expat bloggers cover the same content over and over again. Many of these bloggers recreate the same topics that they have done a few times previously. There is one person that puts out about 2-3 videos a day. I'm assuming that person needs money and doesn't receive much of a pension.

Once you lose your privacy you can't get it back. Staying low key is best when living in a foreign country as you don't want trolls stalking you or picking fights. Just look at that World Zoom guy that got into a fight and ended up in prison a few months ago. I'm sure someone that watches his videos had a bone to pick with him. Not worth it for a few pesos a month income.
