  • I share new techniques and how they've led me to a better painter in this video. Sometimes all it takes is a change in perspective to learn and improve as an artist. I also take you through my newest oil on canvas #painting which features a pintail drake.
It's so great to get back to painting some #wildlife again. As I get out to gather more reference this summer I hope to start including a lot more wildlife moving forward.

Know that you have company in feeling stressed when painting. I always seem to rush just to get things covered on the under layer like I'm on a time limit. But I find the end results when I spend the time to finish worth the effort.

I'm so very grateful that you always generously share what is going through the "inside" in the process of making the paints, making the creating experiences much more relatable while giving these videos of yours much more depths. I am more of an "inpatient" person and always struggle with frustration on a daily basis, and I always cherish the moments when people are telling me: "It's all going to be alright. Take all the time you need, just to make things finally turn out the way you want them to be, no matter how long it takes!" At least, that's the message I took from your videos and I can't appreciate it even more! Thank you! ❤️

The biggest thing I took from this was the frustration and stress part during the process. I'm always a stressed while painting and I get frustrated because it's not going how I like but I push through and it comes together by the end. Thank you putting this video, and message out there, Chuck. Watching tons of techniques and approaches on the web, it’s easy for an artist to get overwhelmed and wonder if they’re following the right approach, or the right way of go about creating their work. I hope that those artist hear your message, which simply put, ‘You have to do what’s right for you. Whatever gets you to where your creative goal, and personal creative voice take you’. Take what you can from each of the many wonderful artists out there, who are offering their own experience and input. But travel your road. It’s your personal creative journey.

I paint digitally, but learn a ton from watching traditional painters like you. And, I go through the same struggles. As mush as I enjoy painting, it can get very stressful. I'm trying to change my technique as well. I've noticed that each time I approach a new painting, I say I'm going to use a new technique, but I wind up using it about 10% of the painting. Each time I paint I try to use the new technique more and more until I get to 100% and am satisfied. Sorry for the rambling. Hope it makes some sense! Thanks very much for your instruction.

First of all your work is gorgeous it’s like you could pet the head of that duck it looks so real on the video. I think what impresses me about you, I mean besides your incredible work, is that you make it look so easy while at the same time telling us how hard you’ve worked to get it. I don’t think we hear that enough from artists so when little housewives like myself come along and we think it will be a cakewalk because it looks so easy, and then of course we can’t get it and we throw the brush across the kitchen and stomp on our canvases it’s so very refreshing to hear an artist tell us how hard they work for their craft. So good on you and thank you very much. Love your videos.

Thanks so much for your explanation of how to do wet on wet effectively. So grateful. I love to paint realism as well but was letting it dry for days in between because of the problem of all the colors melding together- so frustrating!!!!!!!!! There is nothing worse than working for hours- being 'relatively happy with your progress and then - trying to touch something up only to have all the original detail get swallowed up in the new paint!!! Nothing worse than ending a day of painting with total frustration! So happy to see and hear your technique. Thank-you for telling us you are tense during painting. Everyone around me thinks I'm crazy that I can't paint with Bob Ross's happy disposition. Even I was thinking I'm not a normal painter. You have inspired me!

Very beautiful indeed. I get where your at - wet on wet is such a superb technique when used with discipline and the correct paint consistency; you’ve definitely got there 👌🏻

Wow, that is stunning! I really like hearing about all the work you put in, the ways you push yourself to get better, which is a good reminder that it’s not all down to talent, or luck.

Chuck I appreciated so much to look at you painting this piece but also your comments about how many time you are not satisfied and how hard you can work on something to arrive at what you want, it tells me, look, even Chuck find it hard often, thanks a lot....I will tey a duck also, we have so much nice ducks in our country, but very hard to do, but I will try that technic, Nathalie

Thank you so much for your tips, I really enjoy watching and listening. Learning different ways to manipulate the medium you use is an art form in itself, let alone the other factors of techniques and skills to contribute to the finished work.
