Impressive collection. I grow petola and love it, starting to propagate lots. I use and grow them in sphagnum moss and a tiny little bit of compost what do you recommend?
Thank you :) I grow them mostly in sphagnum and perlite now - I find that works the best for me but I find that everyone does it a little different depending on their conditions:)
Long time no see! Good to see you back with a new video :). You have an amazing collection of jewels, and your grow space is amazing! Do you use the soapy water method for managing thrips as well or how do you take care of that? They're currently the bane of my existence. I use a homemade horticultural oil which seems to work, but has also managed to kill some of my plants (cactus seedlings 😭). Supposedly yellow sticky traps are supposed to catch them in the flight stage, but those have never worked for me.
Thanks so much! I put it all together this summer :) so far I haven’t had too much trouble with thrips - just mealy bugs. With thrips I take the plants out of their pots, and wash them with soapy water and then segregate them into closed containers with new medium and keep my eyes on them to make sure they don’t reappear. If they do I just wash them again until they don’t come back. Yeah, I’m wary with the oil on jewel orchids because I did that once and it killed my plants. I do use Neem oil on my other orchids tho and I find it works really well- just not on jewel orchids. I find they are sensitive to sprays and oils, that’s why I like the soap and water method. I never found those sticky traps to be helpful to be honest.
Yeah I have a few different ones. I have one variety called ‘Dayii’, another called ‘Dark’, and one called ‘Titan’, plus the one that you see in the video. Seems like there are a lot of different varieties out there with different leaves.
@@westcoastgardenguy1990 is var dayii a dwarf version of marmorata? I ordered one online and when i got it it had super small leaves and died unfortunately 😕

Ooo they are happy! I was surprised they need so much light, I guess I won’t buy one
Thank you :) Well they can still grow well with less light too
The Dossinia Marmorata you have is quite different than what I have.

@@christianmb2170 awe sorry to hear that. Mine has smaller leaves than my other marmoratas but it’s still a small plant so I’m waiting to see…

I don’t know the exact make to be honest. I bought it used off marketplace
Do you have the link where we can purchase these rare ones?
