I watched this show religiously... it was the only comic book information show in Canada at that time.

There was also Anti-Gravity Room (creative title there, guys!), which was even exported to the States, but it was just embarrassing compared to this series. Still one of my favourites of all time. There was nothing like it then, and there's still nothing like it today.

More like too pretentious and too hypocritical.
Man's entire (famous part of it) carrier is summed up by himself in The Simpsons cameo, he just takes lighthearted (on very surface level and after decades of creators *supression* and *oppression* by Ellseworth's ban at first and then by overal comic code later on) concepts and always, Always he perverts them, takes them tits up, deconstructs them, etc. Even his Supreme , which only mimicks to be Silver Age "throwback" in flashbacks to shamelessly play on false(for peopel born afrer 80s)-nostlagia , but then he did same thing he previously did on Superman, kills not-Jimmy Olsen as such.
He absolutely has 0 right to bash the "imitators" when He is an imitator himself, Watchmen wasn't even the first in HIS time work about "what if Superheroes but lasting consequences and shit" , he just was one who did it "officially". But if you go in the past, in the original Superman issues you will see an actual character who tackles real problems and who also unfraid to kill or save innocents in favor of saving bad guys because he can't do both. But then editors , parents, etc, stiffled Siegel and other writers and Superman, Batman, Robin, and others were put in more convinient and "safe" adventures with no moral dillemmas, no real problems, or when character can't even change and evolve as originally Superman would reveal his identity to Lois in 1942, but DC blocked that story (again, story by original creators) so "officially" they will become honest couple only 50 years later, in "post-Watchmen" and "post-The Dark Knight(Returns)" world.
I am so sick and tired seeing NEW people that repeat same shit again and again just because someone niche famous said it. When it is obviously UN true if you actually study history of these things mostly just by going by first issues (AND unreleased/prototype studd) and put 2 and 2, because interviews can lie/be under NDA too.

I remember reading Watchmen back in 86, will never forget reading through issue 11, and nearly dropping the book when I got to the penultimate page and read the words "I did it 35 minutes ago." It has never been equalled and probably never will be.

A very interesting show. It's like space ghost. The editing from the show definitely feels early 90's. I wonder when this was released and played on tv?
Alans last bit of talking speaks the truth.

It speaks pretentiousness and hypocrisy. If Watchmen was Only Alan's "deconstruction" it wouldn't, but alas Supreme, League of Gentlemen, even all those issues of Superman that he did And also Twilight of Superheroes plans paints different picture.
There is also his Spawn comics but nobody cares about those.

11:34 - Huh, never heard about this psychological baby testing, I'll have to look that up
24:54 - Blistering condemnation, accurate and timeless
27:52 - Pop Will Eat Itself meta-outro is a wonderful finishing touch to this thoughtful production
Thank you so much for the upload!

Would be interesting to hear Alan's updated 'Top 10 Existential Threats' list today... the cold-war threat of nuclear annhiliation sounds frankly quaint and merciful in 2024.

Prisoners of Gravity was I think an 80s show. The interviews were surely done before the show and then there was some kind of playback.

I reckon the guy stole the interview from somewhere and wrapped his own show around it

Thankfully 90's era passed and Watchmen wasn't cast within that era. Though, would be interesting to see, but only as alternative/additional thing.

Watching this interview from past with real comic book writers shows the juxtaposition for today DC and marvel writers. New comic books writer, books, and story is utter garbage from marvel and DC.

I also found that quality of paper fro mthese two dipped down in quality and on unsatisfying level. The gloss just vanished.

I still think Gruenwalds Squadron is as good, and released just a little time before Watchmen but is somehow forgotten

I wouldn't say it's as good but it is fucking amazing in its own right and doesn't deserve to be forgotten.

I think it is a mistake calling Watchmen best superhero comic or superhero comic at all, when there are so many deep layers inside. Plus, it's deconstruction of superheroes, how then can be a superhero comic?

    • @cameronmitchell8180
      @cameronmitchell8180 ปีที่แล้ว

Surface level its a superhero comic. The depth of layers is where you find it’s much more. But it’s still simply a superhero comic.
