@@seka1nix that game is mediocre compare to Call of duty 3 of Ps2 (also Black is made in 2006 and CoD 3 is made is 2005). Black is only good graphics and nothing more special.

It's also worth noting that for beating the game 100% you get a 'where are they now?' clip show reminiscent to Crash 1, chock full of extra cameos and fanservice.
Plus an extra scene at the end for 106% which hints a lot at a continuation of some sort (fingers crossed, Crash 5)
So going by what I saw, there is a chance Crush actually does exists in this new constinuity in some shape or form.

No one wants to, but I choose to. I kind of like it when I disconnect it from the Banjo-Kazooie series, which isn’t the best mindset to have towards any game, but it helps me to enjoy the game more for what it is, instead of what it ruined.

The first boss was a killer way to kick off the game! It's a Mad Max rock concert against N. Gin in a drumming robot! All that's missing is the Flame Guitar Guy from Mad Max Fury Road!
Now I'm just trying to figure out which Crash villain would substitute as the flame guitar guy.

Makes sense Kupuna-Wa's character is a grandmother type figure. Her name is derived from the Hawaiian word Kapuna Wahine. Which translates to grandmother.

There's Kupuna-Wa's derived from grandmother in Hawaiian, Lani-Loli's name is derived from "Lani" meaning "Sky" or "Royalty" and "Loli" meaning "Change" or "Transform", Akano's name just being the name for "Substance" in Hawaiian, and Ika-Ika's name coming from "Ikaika" meaning "Strength".
I also agree that this game still didn't top Warped for me, and after I 106% this game it doesn't even top Crash 2 imo, but it's definitely up there with Crash 2 & Warped as one of the best in this series and shows that this classic linear gameplay style still has great potential in the modern gaming and will still be the best style for Crash series which made it unique in the first place.

This review pretty much encapsulates my feelings on the game: I love it, but it's flaws are all too apparent (that N. Tropy fight in particular was very disappointing to me).
I love this game. As someone who didn't bother getting all the gems, and just played through it to have a good time, this game MORE than succeeded on that front. The story is surprisingly gripping, the graphics are gorgeous, the characters range from good to amazing, the boss fights are consistently fantastic, the levels are fun and rarely made me rage, with the exception of the last part of the last level, and Crash controls perfectly. This game is easily my favorite game in the series so far, and I don't see that opinion changing any time soon.
Agree. I loved Crash 4 and I don't have any intention of 100% this game, I'm currently trying for the flashback tapes only, and while I do rage, is not to make me hate this game. I just love it too much and for me, probably my favorite in the franchise. I felt like a kid again, and that's more than enough for me.
I find it very ironic that Rodger Craig Smith, the end credits/Dingos Diner Commercial guy, gives a much more entertaining and funny performance here than he has for Sonic in the past 10 years. He sounds more invested here than he does voicing the blue blur.
He's also the voice of Brio in this game, so that's the third voice actor he's gone through since the revival. He was voiced by Maurice LaMarche in the N. Sane Trilogy and Tom Kenny in Nitro Fueled.

@@Next-xm2dh I don't think Toys for Bob were involved in those games. I also wouldn't count the unreleased Crash game, since it was cancelled.
I also gotta give credit to the new crates introduced. Wrath of Cortex had invisibility crates that made you invisible and invincible to lasers. Unfortunately it was only used in like 2 levels.
Here, we have red outlined boxes that only stay solid for a short time, flamethrower crates, and bouncy crates that turn into nitro crates after bouncing on them too many times (The latter is used largely in a few of the flashback tapes).
WOC was the first game to break away from the repetitive use of level tropes, while this game just continues what WOC started regarding unique level themes per stage.
This is the first and so far only game that has managed to exhaust me. Getting as many gems as possible, as well as trying to not die before getting the flashback tapes, it all takes so much out of me. But the biggest issue I have is the load times, a good 10 to 20 seconds. Sure, it might not sound like a lot, but having to restart the level before getting the tape or dying one too many times, it really starts to build up. And keep in mind, the game loads twice when entering a stage.
Because of the cutscenes and intro scenes, not defending it, I hated when it did that especially when restarted
I feel like "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" is the new "Sonic has had a rough time in 3D" for video game reviews.
Except it's way, WAY more prominent.
And more annoying because its a double edged sword.

Unpopular opinion, other than the wedding fart joke, i havent laghed a single time in the entirety of the game, and the humour felt plain after Crash Twinsanity.

Easily cause the lines he was given were so cheesy, that you have to have a bland taste in comedy to laugh about it for days on end.

This was a great game, but also the only Crash game where I did NOT go back to get the gems.
As story focused as this game is, there are a few continuity errors here and there, most notably in flashback levels. And the story also has a few missed opportunities, especially with Tawna and female N. Tropy just like ya said. But also the fact we don't get enough time to get to know these masks better as characters, not to mention, Aku Aku having so little dialogue. But at least that part can be somewhat forgiven with how entertaining character Lani-Loli is. As for N. Brio's role in the game, I think he's only there to aid N. Tropy, rather than Cortex, given how those two were teamed up in Twinsanity. But I think adding N. Brio in here besides the flashback levels and final dimension works so well and ya could barely notice the difference between Maurice LaMarche and Roger Craig Smith. EASILY the highlight in the game's voice acting part. Sure, when it comes to the script, Crash 4 is the funniest one in the series, but it's not the best script in the series given how much continuity errors and wasted opportunities there were. And yeah, this game's even harder to complete 106% than completing Crash Bash 201% and that's saying a lot, but most of these rewards are worth it. MOST, but not all of 'em. I only aimed for 100% instead of 106%. But I still think this is my third favourite Crash game right behind Nitro-Fueled and OG Crash 2. The game did so many things right but there are PLENTY of things that keep it from being a perfect Crash game. Not that Crash 4 could ever compete with Nitro-Fueled and Crash 2, those two game are WAY better than ANY Crash game. Hell, they are way better than ANY game.
I do agree with ya when discussing Crash 4 and interesting you say about Crash 2 & CTR: NF. (Well Crash games are still awesome, most of the time)
Myself I would also have Marvel's Spider-Man PS4, Dust: An Elysian Tail, PlayStation All Stars & A Hat in Time in my Top 5.
One thing I really liked about Tawna in this game is that she wasn't a completely obnoxious brat like Wildstyle from Lego Movie, or Candy Kong's TV show counterpart.
This version of Dingodile is something me and my friends call "Daddydile". Love his design.

Gotta give credit to the masks voice actors. Richard Horwitz (Invader Zim, Billy from Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy, and Raz from Psychonauts) as Lani-Loli and Greg Eagles (Grim from Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy and Aku Aku from Titans and Mind Over Mutant) as Akano. This was only one voice actor short of a Grim Adventures reunion.
Actually Fred Tatasciore voices Akano in this game.
Fun fact which I discovered on Twitter the other day - you know Dingodile, who sounds like an Australian gangster here and is the inspiration for how I imagine Punk, aka MKN-002, to sound? He's voiced by Fred Tastycore, an American voice actor who primarily specializes in anime dubs, most notably that guy in Naruto who looked like him, if he isn't voicing random video game baddies.
That guy's seriously got a flexible voice. Put him up there with Rob Paulsen and Dee Bradley Baker.
Just watching the animations for all of the characters pleases my animation side of me XD It kinda makes me want to try the game, though I'mma wait still cause I'm unsure about the series still (more so cause I'm not totally into platforming so XD). Maybe if there's a sale for N. Sane I'll try that out first ^-^

I feel like repetion here is mostly for those who like those arcade 1 coin chalanges. And I mean at least there is progression and sense you are getting something by doing them. Still yeah, it is to much if you really do not find concept of repeating the game thriling. To anyone who does not, just play casually and complete levels if you feel like the skin or for just doing so.
I for one adore the chalange so yeah I am weird.

Awesome review bro, I enjoyed it very much, it was funny, informative, etc.. Now that I think about it was kind of surprised you didn't use your crash avatar instead of your original one, but you used it so doesn't matter, ANYWAYS! Ya was wondering if you were going to acknowledge the insanity that is 100% this game and I don't blame you for not doing so, though I'm curious if you know the full 100% ending to the game, if you don't I HIGHLY encourage you to do so for many reasons, one of them being... A special surprise if one were to think about it, ANYWAYS! Was kind of happy you acknowledged what happens at the end of the rail section of the N tropy fight, though was hoping youd show it and have a shocked reaction to it, slightly disappointed but not THAT much I get keeping it a surprise, sorry for a lot of the negetices especially parts of the story, and gameplay. Also that one point where you talk about playing it in retro mode or modern in its lives........ Ya that got me too when I figured out what you ment lol.... So wrong. Lol

Hearing you gush about the finale might be my favorite part of the video. I haven't played the game myself, but I watched the final boss because... that's just what I do. It seemed like a fitting ending (and I love Cortex's dialogue), but I wasn't even aware of just how much was effort was out into the final world as a whole. It's amazing! 😍
After having watched both this and the last review, I really want to play N-Sane and 4 now. I feel like they'd be very fun! 😀

I'll be honest about the finale of the game; I really had hoped they would end the game with N.Tropy as the final boss. Whilst yes, his/her boss fight was pretty poor and underwhelming and whilst they didn't get enough screen time to be fleshed out, I would've been more happier with them(or maybe Uka-Uka as a surprise final boss) then with Cortex since there was a lot I spotted that was wrong with the whole finale in my eyes. One is that when Cortex slowly figures out what he can do with Kapuna-Wa, no one does anything or even sees this coming for that matter. Like it just felt force that none of the other masks or Tawna, Dingodile or even Coco did anything to stop him from getting away or even stopped him before he could take Kapuna-Wa, especially three games in with Cortex as the bad guy. Another thing is that whilst I do like the idea of his traveling back in time to prevent himself from making Crash in the first place, his interactions with his past self just sort of made me cringe more then anything, since I always used to take him seriously as a villain in the original trilogy(the PS1 games and not N.Sane), and in this game they both act the same way which takes a lot away from him as a villain. That's another big reason why I didn't like the finale as well, not only did we already have a fight with Cortex in the same game, but ever since Twinsanity, I've never been able to take Cortex seriously as a villain which wasn't so much of an issue in most post ND games since he was more so played up as a joke(except for Mutants where he was the main and final villain), but here, when I have to fight Cortex a second time in the game, I'm left wondering if I should even feel sorry for him, because at this point, it just seems more confusing and embarrassing to have him force himself to play the bad guy yet again when it's clear he was only ever in it for the ride rather then the destination so it just seems disappointing, despite how great the final boss fight itself is as well as the time loop that takes place.
Whilst the whole story itself was pretty solid for the most part, this whole finale did sort of ruin more of it for me, sort of the biggest issue I have to be honest.
Great video as always. Though that begs the question. If this isn't your new favorite game, then what is? I guess we'll just have to wait and see. Also, do you plan on making a review for Final Fantasy 7 Remake in the future?

As for the Red Gem, the hint is on the wall before you enter Lani-Loli's room
The Yellow Gem made me laugh when I realized you can see it from the beginning of Run It Bayou in a similar way that you can see the Yellow Gem in Hang 'Em High in Warped (just a different means to get to it)

I like this game but I didn’t play it I was not gonna through the pain but my brother did his rage was my satisfaction.
But overall I think they did an amazing job at this game I really like the design of the characters(Expect Neo Cortex sorry) I especially love Crash’s design wish I had a plushie of him.

Can I just say, This game has totally saved us from 2020 because this is the best crash game I have ever played in my life credits to Toy for bob because these guys are the best, but next time they should take it easy, because this game is hard as fuck to 100% complete, but other then that still an awesome game, welcome back Crash.
You kinda neglected to mention that when you beat the game at 106% you get a secret ending, which I find to be hilarious and also hinting a new Crash game in the future. But honestly i do enjoyed playing this game and I also enjoyed this review.👍

I can say that the alternate time lines where really annoying and the animal ride sections where too slippery so you miss easy boxes
But I didn't have any problems with the time trails they where the easy part of the game
I really wish they got Clancy Brown to back to voice past Cortex, just to really bring it all home

I think my problem with this Crash game is how ingrown 100% is in me. So I cant just set down a play it casually anymore, I just start collecting all boxes as I would do in the older Crash games. And because of that this game is a nightmare compared to Crash 1, 2 and 3 who also is hard in the later levels. I also feel this game goes vary vary fast when we talk how diffecult it is.
But when thats said I like the game and I will like to see more. But then again I also want to see what they can do with Spyro.
There's only one major thing that you didn't talk about that I'm sorely disappointed in...

Her appearance, her animations, her victory animations, her cutscene dialogue, that Totally Tubular costume--she's my favorite in the series for a reason!

Didn't watch this the first time it was released because I wanted to try the game myself. Now that I've beaten it - not 100% - I have to say: I had no idea about the slide-spin attack move. It was never brought up in the game - or if it was, I forgot about it - thus I never used it.

Hoping Crunch Bandicoot will be playable in the next installment, even if they change his backstory. Wouldn’t be fun without him saving the world with Crash , Coco, Tawana, along with the Quantum Masks and living with the bandicoots, becoming their adoptive brother. Crunch is my favorite character in the lore.
Crunch could have a gameplay style similar to Crash's in the Titan games.

I like to imagine that the large amount of requirements needed to 100% Crash 4 is the developers wanting to make up for the series’s nearly decade long hiatus.

Other than Toys for Bob taking notes from Donkey Kong 64 when looking at 100% completion, this is the best Crash game to date.
About Donkey Kong 64, I used that game as an example first haha.

Both games have an excellent foundation and when going for a casual "just beat the final boss" run they're fantastic, but the moment you decide to go the extra step and aim for 100% they transform into a herculean task that will leave you bald by the end of it.
You could also apply that to Super Mario Sunshine for the same matter.

Cortex's, levels were actually my least favorites and Dingodile's levels were my favorites.

I've only got 4 of the CTR Nitro Fuelled Dev Times in a bid to get those Master Wheels as the last skill-based unlock, and given how much a shaking, sweating, hyperventilating mess just ONE of those tracks leave me in... the idea of Dev Timing these levels is not filling me with much hope.
Please tell me that you used the bonus level as a checkpoint when you were going for the blue gem. It's hell without it.
I had completely forgotten that bonus levels could serve as checkpoints, so I started from scratch after every death.

I too realized that after I got that Blue Gem for the first time.
I dont know how, but I beat the game in classic mode on my first playthrough... without switching to modern once...

Almost. The one thing Wrath of Cortex did better was not going overboard with the completion aspect.
Maybe, but in some things is worse. I dont like the death routes, the Crash 2 style secrets, the difficult and the bosses. WOC does a better job in this aspects in my opinion.
Also WoC has the better soundtrack by far IMO
